Spoken like a true Classic Andy who’s never played retail. “BiS loot” is the furthest thing from free.
I would advise ignoring these guys. They troll the SoD forums putting down every idea that remotely resembles a change or QoL. They should stay in Era where they belong.
Nobody forgets that meaningless platitude. Every game ever has been “seasonal”. If there is no timeline, it means absolutely nothing.
and u should stay in retail where u belong
I enjoy both SoD and Retail. Classic Era is trash and so is it’s community.
There’s an end-date that’s not yet been determined. It’s not going to last years like Era.
Yes, it’s seasonal/temporary. Literally in the name.
heh . someone isnt running h2 or h3 or something cause the drops have been plentiful in the raids ive been in.
If it hasn’t been determined it doesn’t exist. Everything has an end-date that has yet to be determined. “Seasonal” is meaningless.
Comrade, the workers of the world of warcraft finally have equality of outcomes within our grasp. Let us make everyone the same.
Yep, I agree. My guild has been having to bring alts just so we don’t throw away gear. We have a lot of epics sitting in a bank ready to next phase disenchanting lol
SoD does have an end-date. Aggrend said in an interview that there will be, but that they won’t be quick to end the project after Naxx.
Mate, everything has an end date. Every game ever has an end date. If it’s not announced, if it’s not known, it doesn’t exist. It means absolutely nothing. How are you not grasping this?
Sure? Classic Era will be closed down one day too, as will retail. I’m talking about longevity and intention. Use some common sense here, this isn’t a, “Well Actually” moment.
Unlike Era, which was intended to be a permanent home for Classic, SoD is not that and everyone has understood that. It’s why everything is sped up and more convenient.
Do you actually think SoD would have been popular without the class changes, faster leveling and easier gearing? You can’t sell a temporary project without making the players feel like their time isn’t being wasted.
*** Hence why SoM was a disastrous flop *** Temporary Vanilla seasons aren’t fun.
Before they turned the servers on, the specified that SoD would not be a long-term project. Since then, they’ve also said that SoD was always meant to be a testing ground for a future Classic+ (whatever that looks like)
I’m pretty certain that everyone but you understands that SoD is nothing more than a big PTR server to try new things independently from the Era servers.
Nobody understands that, because it’s meaningless. If it has no definition, no parameters, it doesn’t have any relevancy. Just because it’s been repeated doesn’t mean it has a meaning.
The developers of the project disagree with you. Aggrand has literally said in an interview that SoD is a testing ground to try new stuff and that the servers will eventually come to an end sometime after Naxx.
You can’t disagree with facts. Without set parameters, “seasonal” is meaningless.
It’s like arguing with a brick wall. “Season” in the context of this version of the game just means there isn’t going to be long-term legacy server support like Classic Era or something like Everquest.
So like literally every video game. Got it. You can’t actually define “seasonal”, but you’ll keep repeating it. Imagine a seasonal job but without an end date. That’s just a job. Just like this is just like any other game, in that it will one day end. Cool.
That’s not a logical comparison. I’ve worked seasonal jobs, you accept a contract to work X amount of months with an established start and end date.
Video games are not jobs. Seasonal modes of games are becoming more popular and while they typically don’t last as long as SoD has, it’s the same concept.
Path of Exile has always done this. They open a new league with an unannounced end date until development for the next league has wrapped up. You can’t commit to a hard date when you don’t know exactly how long it will take to finish.
The key here is that we have a rough idea of when the season will end because Aggrand literally said, “Sometime after Naxx has ran it’s course, but we won’t be in a hurry because we all love playing our characters”
Compare this to Classic Era, which is a static version of the game that has been decided to never get updates and stay online in an unaltered patch state without new content.
The key difference being, SoD is planned to end, while Era is intended to stay around. This is no different from Retail seasons. We don’t know the end date of Season 1 until they get closer to Season 2.
