Increase drop rate to High Value items (DST etc)

Not all friction is good friction. This friction becomes fire and pain when the friction burns to much. I have not missed a netherspite or a gruul and have not seen the sword or the trinket. The good friction was the raid and getting to the boss. The bad friction is the rng not being in my favor.

its my dst and i want it nowwwwwwwwww!

call jg wentworth 877 cash now!

That’s kinda just classic wow in general man

its sad that people dont get that .

Retail :right_arrow:

I hear they’re bringing back bonus rolls with some sort of bad luck protection.

My resto shaman is 100% full BIS and has been for 2 weeks.

I think relying on complete RNG with no mechanic to mitigate outliers and extreme results is bad design.

The only thing worse than complete RNG for a loot system are the people who argue that it’s fine and say ridiculous things like “getting every piece of loot handed to you on a silver platter is not fun”. I’m having fun, i still do Kara/Mag/Grull every lockout even though I don’t need a single piece of gear.

It’s bad design to have a raid team that can easily clear content every single lockout but still might not see a particular item because RNG.

Well if you can clear it no problem, then you kinda don’t need the gear right?

Why would anyone want Thori’dal? It drops from the last boss of Sunwell so you kinda don’t need it if you’re already clearing it. See how stupid that sounds?

For some people it isn’t about clearing the content it’s about building the best character possible.

For some people it’s about chasing items they didn’t get in previous interations.

For some people it might even be about doing the best they possibly can as a personal challenge.

It sounds like you’re one of those people who are struggling with content and think that getting better gear will let you outpace having to do mechanics and that’s a valid take I guess.

For the rest of us the answer is “there are many reasons people want gear that have nothing to do with how difficult it is to clear content”.

Increasing tier drops in the P1 raids is a really dumb decision when the off-pieces/non-tier are actually more valuable and desired.

I hope they do put in a vendor or something. My guild has five 25-man raids, we’ve only seen 3 DST so far. I have one, another rogue in a different raid has one, and a fury warrior in a 3rd raid has one, and that’s it. I’ve also never seen spiteblade drop despite never missing a lockout and never seen the leather shoulders from chess event drop. I’ve seen 2 skulkers drop within the first few weeks and then never again. RNG really sucks sometimes, especially with an accelerated schedule.

My guild hasn’t seen a single DST yet or a magus blade. Which is absolutely ridiculous considering the only item that matters this tier is DST because it literally lasts you until sunwell and we have like 10 people that need it.

Rational players didn’t want Thoridal though. Rational players were preparing for Wrath leveling, or were taking a break.

Riiiiiiight. Sunwell was released in March 2008 and immediately all the “RaTiOnAl” players started prepping for the expansion release in 8 months. Not a single person in those 8 months “rationally” wanted the Legendary item from the raid.

TBC wasn’t designed for you to hit full BiS every tier. It’s really not a big deal and even DST is a relatively minor DPS upgrade over the alternatives.

In order for this to be true there would have to be mechanics intentionally adding bad luck to players to prevent them from randomly getting BIS each phase wouldn’t it? Like you asserting that it “wasn’t designed” that way means that there was actual intention behind it and not just random luck.

You don’t seem to understand, the only thing preventing most players from achieving full BIS every single tier is RNG, not design. You can argue that “RNG is a type of design” but it’s a bad one.

Randomness 100% determines whether or not you will be full BIS every phase in TBC and that’s it. There is no other design philosophy or paradigm at play here. There is no over-arching intention by developers. It’s just 100% random.

Relying on random as a system is lazy design, bad design and should be called out.

How many casters farmed Atiesh in TBC? Pretty much none. Knowing Wrath was being released after Sunwell, and Thoridal would be replaced by the first blue quest reward, why would hunters want to run SWP more times than absolutely necessary just to get a stupid cosmetic toy?

In original TBC?

We had 2 warlock, a priest and myself farming them every week just in my guild. Tichondrius had 3 organized PUG Naxx groups for atiesh farming that ran every week. When wrath pre-patch dropped and they moved Naxx I was 8 shards short.

In 2019 TBC? No one really.

Maybe on your server no one was farming Naxx but Tichondrius, arguably the #1 server in TBC it was constant.

Knowing Wrath was being released after Sunwell, and Thoridal would be replaced by the first blue quest reward, why would hunters want to run SWP more times than absolutely necessary just to get a stupid cosmetic toy?

I mean why are you playing at all then? Knowing SSC/TK is coming out why play tier 4? Why play Tier 5 if Tier 6 is coming out? Why do Black Temple if Sunwell is coming out? Why do Sunwell if Wrath is coming out?

Just take a step back and think critically for a moment.

Christ in Wrath pre-patch we ran split raids to get our hunters and warriors the Bow just because it didn’t need ammo anymore.

Rofl. You gotta be trolling.

Correct. WoW loot is RNG-based and meaningful bad luck protection wasn’t introduced until long after TBC was over. In TBC design it’s supposed to be a rare thing for someone to end up with true BiS.

You picked the wrong game then amigo. Even retail doesn’t have truly deterministic gearing.

Some would consider badge gear the first introduction of a bad luck protection and WOTLK offered all kinds of ways to obtain raid gear via badges so not quite correct. They literally added a raiding currency to help reduce the negative impact of RNG.

My resto shaman is 100% BIS and has been for 3 raid lockouts.

According to your logic this should not be possible.

Yes.

Your guild was definitely an exception, as Naxx was all but deserted in TBC. The vast majority of casters who could farm it easily, did not. And it made sense. Who the hell would want random orange pixels?

Because it’s mechanically fun. It’s fun to press buttons.

And that was dumb. Wrath ammo was a big upgrade IIRC, so Thoridal not using it was bad.
