There’s so much you can give extra to tanks before you give people free gear / loot before it turns into an easy farm through very low effort content.
the incentive is finding it fun and being rewarded for speeding up the queue
I don’t tank or heal 'cause potential ragers that will throw insults my way, I don’t play games to put up with that. That’s why I don’t, at least. I couldn’t care less about the satchel.
A bribed tank is not necessarily a good tank. It’s a dps that needs gold.
My odd idea: marketing.
Have more Lore characters be tank based. Seeing saurfang with a shield, Varian, Liadrin, would be great. I think more exposure would entice those to tank more. Right now, I can’t think of any lore-based prot Paladins. In fact the only one that comes to mind is Bolvar in Wrathgate and the nameless Sin’dorei paladin In the Darkshore warfront opening cinematic.
Hey, I did give the “odd idea” disclaimer!
And when that doesn’t happen, the poor DPS should suffer?
Would people run raids just for fun if there was no loot?
Oh no, can’t have that! The only people who deserve no loot are the people who run content I don’t like.
When its not enuf, add more
So you let the fear of failure control your life? feelsbadman
Btw, the problem with your claim is that you still play with those people. In the same exact groups. So you’re not avoiding them.
Not control my life… just choose to avoid things that are not fun for me and that goes into the second part of your post. I don’t anymore. I stopped. I just stick to myself in-game.
Now that i overgear the dungeons i can solo most of them so gogogo doesnt bug me as much but the crappy attitudes really grate on me after a while.
There will never be enough tanks and heals.
There are 12 classes in the game. 20+ dps speccs. 6 heal speccs. 5 tank speccs. Something like that anyway. You have a natural imbalance already. If I was leveling a mage or warlock and had the ability to tank for insta queues, you better believe I would do it. But, I don’t.
I do agree the incentives are pretty weak. But my number one complaint about the incentives they provide when there is a lack of tanks/healers? The fact that the incentives go away if you add even ONE friend to the party. I’d be willing to tank a TW’ing dungeon for the extra badges, but I can’t even bring a friend along with me, or I lose the incentive.
It’s an MMO and you get “penalized” (using that word lightly here) for bringing a friend.
It’s absolute garbage.
Another big issue for me is solo/lvling content is usually made for dps classes. Healer/Tanks soloing usually takes too long. Its nice for survivability I guess, but I usually just go DPS and eventually just gear up for dps as I am always in the spec.
Lol
10 char
I tried to make a tank and a healer but gave up, because I found it difficult to do these functions, which are less obvious than what I do as dps.
I didn’t feel like having fun and was always charged as a healer and criticized as a tank.
I was not good with either or the other.
Now is actually the perfect time to make a new tank/healer. Most everyone overgears the dungeon, so a screw up isn’t as bad as when the expac first comes out.
Tanking is easy. Just think of it as DPS. It’s virtually no difference. You DPS and you generate threat. Just keep dpsing and you win as tank.
If some mob gets away and starts hammering away at a dps, taunt it and it will return to you.
When boss is about to lay into you with a high damage mechanic, use one of your defensives. Dps have those as well, but rarely use them. Tanks use them all the time.
Believe me, tanking is easy-mode. Different buttons, same thing.
Healing is a bit more intense because different spells do different things. Don’t boost a healer. Level him so you can get used to your toolkit, adding more spells as you go on. That way you won’t get overwhelmed.
Healing as you level is no pressure, believe me. Dungeons are so undertuned when you level, you’ll rarely get into trouble. So don’t be afraid to try it.
That’s… no. That’s not how the random dungeon queue works.
95% of the time, one person so wildly overgears everyone else that they top the damage and healing meters while also tanking multiple mobs at once because the tank can’t generate enough threat to keep up.
If it’s the tank that’s wildly overgeared, they pull so much trash at once that everyone else dies to the incidental aoes while the tank proceeds to wipe the floor with all the mobs coming after him. (Guilty as charged.)
4% of the time you get someone queued up as heals for the fast queue/CTA bag, but they’re in dps or tank spec. It’s a coin flip as to whether or not they can actually heal properly while not being in a heal spec. (Also guilty.)
1% of the time you get a group that’s actually meant to do the dungeon at the expected ilevel.
And of course, if anything goes wrong in any of those situations, you can expect to see lines upon lines of swear-filled ranting until the player that did the “wrong” thing (whether it’s justified or not) is vote kicked, or the group gets tired of the screaming and vote kicks the ranter.
no amount of incentive gonna make me want to tank for people who refuse to learn
Now, that would be the last nail in the coffin…
