How would you define a wow "casual"
There has been a lot of talk and I just want to know what everyone defines as content
geared toward casuals or what they think a casual is.
Proceed with caution…

I don’t think it is about the content they do, I think it is just about how often they play and how long.
Because I’ve played the game in all different ways, and it usually involves how much time I have. Last patch I played a few hours at a time at most so I would have said I was casual at that point.
<— I’m as casual as they come nowadays. I basically do nothing.
No shame in that
For me, I think of casual being measured by what content is being done, not a time played metric.
I feel like I’m a casual player anymore since I’m not doing m+ or rated pvp, but I do play a lot during the week.
I know some see it as time played though, and that’s ok too.
To me it boils down to how long someone has to play and how much effort they care to put into the game.
Since fortnite, there’s been a big wave of gamers that do not care for time-gating and grind and want to get to whatever action NOW. I think said play style is just as valid as the old way. It’s just mmos needing to find that balance between both.
If you read around about the topic, it seems blizzard has; at one point or another hit that balance. It’s recognizing it and keeping it that seems to be the problem.
Well, seem to be losing interest very quickly, there is nothing that is keeping me for the hype to wanting to play it.
Doing the content you want that doesn’t strain your time.
For me its someone who plays solo world content.
I just can’t see someone as a casual if they log on for 3 hours a week but it’s to clear mythic raids and do +15 keys
I guess to me its about pressure and lack of it.
You just log on when you feel like it and mess about.
Low mythics + LFR/bit of normal raiding, also dont play daily
An individual who plays for stress relief and fun.
Sometimes that is how I play ![]()
I’ve done arenas, raiding and all of that but sometimes I just have fun logging on to make some gold or do dailies because it takes my mind off of the real world and my troubles even when I don’t want to do the harder stuff.
Casual = not playing wow like a second or 3rd job.
Someone who runs LFR, low keys only (sub 15 usually), and PuGs pretty much everything unless they have a group of friends equally casual. Solo/open-world players I would also say are representatives of casual play. Transmog/mount/pet farmers too (although hardcore players can certainly participate in this).
They care about character progression but don’t even really consider min-maxing and the meta, and don’t tie themselves in knots trying to get the best gear possible. Upgrades are just a happy bonus.
Time is the largest factor. Casuals might budget an hour or so a day, but WoW is just something they do for fun when they have spare time.
Casual:
Someone who equips a piece of gear that has a non optimal tertiary stats
Someone who does not sim their dps with every gear upgrade
Someone who picks a covenant and soulbind based on preference and not due to meta
Someone who plays the spec they want
Someone who finds enjoyment in non progression aspects of the game
Someone who doesn’t feel they have to complete a set of chores before they can play
This is what I want ![]()
No chores, just BGs
I have some free time right now. Do I want to read a new book, doom scroll social media, watch a movie or two, go for a long walk, or play WOW?
I could do any of these for several hours and get enjoyment from each of them. It could be a while before I get free time again.
I would say that I think of it as not much group content, or doing group activities here and there. Like maybe they feel like doing a random dungeon this week.
I would also say theres the time side of “Casual” where instead of doing EVERYTHING YOU CAN. you just do some of the current dailies, maybe do some of the available quests when you play.
I currently think of when I play on my mage as more Casual playing. I’m not doing all the dailies I could be doing, or all the quests I could be doing. I dont rush to do everything immediately in the week. I try in battlegrounds, but I’m not stressed about winning or losing. I’m just liking floating down the river and enjoying it.
Unlike sometimes when I play my Paladin main, where it feels like im Swimming as fast as I can (with water jets) and running into the end of where the river is loaded every single time. Doing as much as I can until the next day, or next week, or next update.
I recently told my guild I am quitting. 12 hours a week is a bit much for me.
