As someone who has since cancelled their sub, I felt like tossing the developers a bone. I’ve played since launch, and to be honest, Shadowlands was the best expansion ever. At least, once a few patches had come and gone. The first few months, I couldn’t wrap my head around the systems, like covenants, and my combat rogue felt really weak.
But once things settled, and I understood things, I loved it. I enjoyed the story. Yes, even nipple-man. I loved the zones, the leveling, maxing out my sanctum, and eventually, my console. I loved getting 252 gear from world quests, along with the occasional higher piece from the rares in Zereth Mortis.
I could do what I wanted, casually and without ever joining a group. Now, that’s all gone, and is why I stopped playing. However, the masses have spoken. It is what it is. It was just my time to go. Who know, maybe I’ll return if they ever do something akin to Shadowlands again. If not, it was fun while it lasted.
I doubt few will agree, but I don’t care. This message was for the random developer that happens to curiously read the forum on their lunch break.
From my perspective as a solo world content player… shadowlands was just the worst.
Ugly zones.
Annoying to get around.
World quests took forever and gave basically nothing.
The maw was annoying.
Torghast required gear higher than was offered to me.
Anima was hard to come by but everything required tons of it. It would be like 2 weeks of grinding for a bit of transmog. But you also had to spend it on upgrades so you couldnt even get the transmog.
It only started to get fun around 9.2 but the world content was very limited to the point where it barely existed.
Shadowlands was a fail of an expansion and i pray we never get anything like it again.
You see. This always bothers me. I come, I read people’s opinions and I consider them. It’s a public forum. If you don’t care about other people’s opinion, and we give you the benefit of the doubt that you’re not here to stir the pot. Then why not just post your feedback in the game under /support/give feedback or suggestions? Because when you come on a public forum, give an against-the-grain opinion and then say you don’t care about other people’s opinion then it makes me think you’re just here to troll.
Anyway, this bit is for other readers since you don’t care about my opinion: I didn’t like Shadowlands. I played for about two weeks and I just couldn’t tolerate that style of questing. Way too on rails. Way too restrictive. I came back a couple month’s till Dragon flight to tie some loose ends and prep for Dragonflight which looked very promising.
We all have our things that we like and enjoy andnthey don’t always line up. Kinda like now, because I don’t feel the same as you. I’ve been here since Vanilla and there weren’t many things I liked about SL. The story was bad, it wasn’t engaging, I hated Covenants, I hated trying to get around places, I despised Torghast and the Maw, I truly despised ZM and it did nothing to foster RP. It actually killed it.
But hey, people still trash Cata and it’s one of my favorites, so…
It was unique, if you played with 1 char, but not too alt friendly. It had its up & downs. Torghast could have been fantastic for solo playing, if it had armor upgrade drops…as for the Maw? I’m still trying to figure out some DF content & lately, it’s not stimulating, although I’m currently in the usual grind like every xpac, ha!
My two favorite expansions are Wrath (it was better than BC and I was running with a guild that the core had become friends raiding in BC), and MoP-- Great story, fun things to do apart from the usual grind, I miss my farm (stopped by a couple days ago, my dog is still patiently hanging out and everyone greets me by name).
I’m still trying to figure out some DF content & lately, it’s not stimulating, although I’m currently in the usual grind like every xpac, ha!
