Imagine having worse game design than a game called Runescape that came out many years before WoW. Imagine not having the ability to innovate, think, or understand the needs of your playerbase.
This is a good description of the innovation and thought that has went into the WoW world PvP landscape since its inception. Originally, world PvP dominated WoW and was one of the main drawing aspects (hence its name).
Now, it is a poor afterthought at best. How do you bring back your game? You understand it.
But how? And why? Why does the open world need 1v1 areas, and how exactly would that work? And how would it be different than dueling that already does something similar?
I mean it is not hard to understand. I should not have to explain this to you.
You limit PvP combat to 1v1 with some sort of timing barrier where other players cannot attack you. This gives the benefit for natural world PvP to occur, especially in areas where world PvP awards rewards such as bloody tokens or gear.
Often, these areas degenerate to people who just group up and stomp solo players and does not promote a healthy environment. The fun of world PvP has never been getting a raid that can stomp other people, it has been natural competition that forms over slightly contested goals or areas.
This isn’t new technology, it is old and proven and better than the garbage that exists in this game. Go watch popular world PvP videos, it is all 1v1s no groups involved.
It doesn’t take Einstein to understand this, but it does take someone of low intelligence to take this long to get it (not talking to you, but the development team).
It’s your idea, you posted it, it’s kind of your job to either explain it or accept that others may have no idea what you are suggesting.
So how exactly would this work?
Do you walk up to someone, right click them, and select some kind of option like “1v1 combat” to initiate it? Does it happen automatically? Is it everywhere while in war mode or restricted to certain areas of the game world?
What areas would it be in, and what rewards would there be for going there? Is it a just for fun type thing, would it be part of a world PvP quest to defeat another player in combat?
I was watching 1 vs X PvP videos from WoW’s beta where the person was outnumbered or in a group skirmish. World PvP combat in WoW has had a lot of 1v1 fights yes but also the unpredictable fight where you’re outnumbered or group fights.
However, if your solution is only for small areas of the game world to be these 1v1 zones that won’t change that, likewise if it’s to make the whole world 1v1 only, that will ruin the 20+ years of world PvP content the game has had.
Ah yes, insulting the intelligence of others.
I’ll go back to this. Yes, you should have to. It’s your idea, and I asked some questions that you really should answer. How will this work, exactly? So please, answer them. I will repeat them below in numbered list format to make it easier for you to answer them:
So how exactly would this work?
Do you walk up to someone, right click them, and select some kind of option like “1v1 combat” to initiate it?
Does it happen automatically?
Is it everywhere while in war mode or restricted to certain areas of the game world?
What areas would it be in, and what rewards would there be for going there?
Is it a just for fun type thing, would it be part of a world PvP quest to defeat another player in combat?
How would you prevent players from using it to exploit for example by attacking a friend to become immune to all other players while questing?
How would you balance the classes when WoW’s PvP has never really been balanced well for 1v1?
Remember, this is YOUR idea, YOU need to explain it and defend it. It’s not anyone else’s burden to do your homework for you. And no, not everyone who questions your idea or criticizes it is of “low intelligence”. This is on you. Explain it better or your idea belongs in the “never going to happen bin” along with that other idea that was posted to prevent people from fleeing fights.
I think this could actually be an interesting idea. Personally I wouldn’t mind if you could only fight 1 person at a time. However you need to be away that some class/specs are practically unbeatable in a 1v1.

My guess is he is likely thinking of how it works in Runescape. When you start fighting someone others can’t intervene till the fight is over.
Right but does that mean everywhere? Or only in certain “1v1” areas of the map?
Cause I am not opposed to 1v1 dueling content. I’ve seen people asking for some kind of 1v1 arenas or something to that effect for awhile and as long as it’s optional content that could be fun for those who enjoy it.
But if it’s more like a large part/the whole game world is forced into that system that would kill WoW’s world PvP overnight. WoW is not Runescape. It’s WoW.
He was rude to you for simply asking for elaboration so the chances are he has not thought it through that much since he got “internet frustrated” for being asked to work on it a bit
Make it like a pet battle. When you attack someone, you’re instantly phased with that person and cant leave or see anyone in that area until it’s over.
Didn’t sub rogues have a PvP talent at some point where you could pull someone to the shadow realm for a certain amount of time??
