But that’s the conversation you started.
This is appearance.
This is action, personality, and writing.
She can look one way and not behave the way you might expect based on those looks.

imo I was taken aback cuz I thought she’d feel more hardened in the game, but eh I guess that’s just how she is. But I would have liked it if she got some cinematics of her fighting so people get a feel of her being nice talking but a tough warrior at the same time
Optimus Prime and Samurai Jack must really confuse you then.
My primary criticism of her is that they literally tore down Anduin as a character and had her hold his hand to “fix” him instead of allowing Anduin the strength to fix himself.
I despise when the writing team decides tearing down male characters is how they’ll promote the female ones, and that’s basically what they did this entire expansion, zone by zone.
I agree with this. There is a misalignment between her presentation in media, compared to her portrayal in-game.
I believe it is an issue with the delivery of the voice lines. She sounds indecisive compared to a battle-hardened veteran that would be more assertive.
I do not take issue with her positive personality, but the way the actor reads the lines depicts someone who is very green and uncertain of herself to the point of sounding naive.
It is immersion-breaking a bit with the player wondering how someone like her is capable of being selected to represent her Arathi people as a Lamplighter, who are otherwise not of this incredibly bubbly, almost mousy demeanor.
I thought this was more than the most shallow of conversations. In that case, no you are beyond wrong. She’s battle hardened in her artwork, and she’s presented as such in-game. In her stories you have a more full scope of her, and that’s about it.
You are trying to infer a lot of stuff from just a person’s appearance and to then ignore everything else. That is about as shallow as “social media beauty ‘standards’ on Instagram.”
I’d recommend raising the bar at least a lil’bit higher than that.
I agree with the Samurai Jack, maybe not Optimus. Optimus goes HARDDDDD. I would say Starscream is the same where he looks intimidating (in some media) but sounds really funny
I’m going to mute this thread, the amount of preconceived notions now includes how an actor reads her lines (which is the way Blizz wanted).
I see what some of you really mean, but you aren’t using those words to not get in trouble… but I see you.
maybe theyre giving a hint that shes two-faced?
idk
I think it’s both. It is possible to be an absolute hardened warrior and a philosopher. Just look at Thrall or Varian. They are both the epitome of each side of the coin. Each one has waged war and lead thousands of troops into battle. On the other hand, each has also been a father and a philosopher understanding that sometimes war just doesn’t do it. I feel like with this character she represents both sides of that same struggle and it’s done very well and very subtly.
Its the standard waffling they do when a character they wrote three expansions of story for ahead of time is dead on arrival.
Expect her personality to jump back and forth till shes abandoned or dies " heroically "
Yeah, that’s kinda where I’m at, too. Faerin artwork looks much older, more haggard and battleworn. Faerin game model is soft, young and entirely different.
Even women wrestlers still look like themselves when they dress up for red carpet events and whatnot.
The art vs in game is definitely like two different characters.
I get that art does not equate to in game. But most at least look somewhat close. Faerin does not.
Uh… what?
Pretty sure it’s an attempt to steer the discussion towards race or something. Which admittedly happens almost any time this character sees any criticism.
Not sure how we made that jump here though. Clearly most people talking here like one or both of these versions of Faerin they’d just like them to line up a bit better between promo and game.
Me neither. lol
I love both of her looks. But like someone said earlier, her artwork look fits Diablo more than WoW. Which… that would be so swank to see Faerin in a Diablo universe kicking butt!
I just think there’s a major disconnect between Artwork!Faerin and Game!Faerin, moreso than most other artwork vs game models.
Yeah I’m less of a fan of artwork Faerin and was prepped to dislike her by the early material but then game Faerin disarmed me of that pretty quickly and turned me from a hater into a fan.
Might also just be a human model issue too. I feel like the orcs, elves, trolls, dracthyr, draenei, worgen, undead, dwarves, goblins kind of hit the mark in terms of looking like an adaptation into the game’s art style. (I feel like tauren are a hit or miss)
There definitely is a disconnect. She seems like she’s the opposite of a front-line warrior.
I think almost every character along the way has basically been abandoned or died. Sure we get to see them in this expansion, but where are they going to be in the next one? Just look at Sylvanas.
The only reason the Lich King is still a topic of discussion is because of wrath and shadow lands. Otherwise nobody even cares about death knights. The only reason Illidan is even mentioned is because of burning Crusade, Legion, and demon hunters. Otherwise, nobody cares.
characters are not intended to last from start to finish in this game. Just look at Kadgar and how tired everybody is of him. we’ve been dealing with him since burning Crusade. Same with Jaina. I think the Des figured out that if you want a character to be popular, you have to give them their moment in the sunshine and then remove them from the equation.
if she feels different, it’s because she has grown and she is different. She didn’t just lose her arm yesterday.
It makes me wonder if she was cast before Faerin’s character design was finalized-- that she was meant to be a gentle priest rather than someone leaping into the darkness to fight it. Though usually character designs come before they pick who’s gonna voice them.
IMO, the attitude conveyed in the concept art did a better job of hitting the middle ground, and is altogether nicer than the most recent art piece for the short story.

Damn this is my first time seeing the concept art. I definitely see more of the vision now
