Imagine not being on your main

This late in, I’m starting to realize the most fun character isn’t the one I’ve been doing 10x 15+s per week, and am now just staring at that wonderful alt thinking…

"Look at you…You’re so much more fun to me than my main, fill the same role, and all I have to do to catchup is:

  • Get some juicy M+ gear while waiting 20min+ for tanks each key
  • Somehow makeup for missing 6 252 ilvl weekly chests
  • Somehow get domination socket gear with at least heroic ilvl
  • Accept that I can’t have a 262 legendary for a few weeks simply because blizzard says so

All while doing the minimum requirements for my main each week! I’m so glad they made this alt-friendly!

Who else is loving this?

If you do all this, is it really an alt? It sounds like a second main.

Yes I am loving it.

Thank you for your feedback gl with heroic on your alt

This expansion is not alt friendly.

Ideally it’d be a swap to a new main, but the point being how harshly time-gated multiple systems are to prevent swapping mains.

IMO if you can go full neckbeard for 2 weeks, you should be able to catchup, or at least be close enough that you’re relevant

Please please please stop using this as an argument for garbage game design. For 10+ years we could play alts competitively in endgame content without jumping thru 10000 hoops. I cringe so hard when I see the “SoUnDs LiKe A sEcOnD mAiN” argument.

Meaningful choices.

I’m not arguing for the garbage game design, it’s more I remember when alts were just something you played when you wanted to do things that you wouldn’t be doing on your main/endgame character.

So when someone says ‘alt’ I tend to think of that, and not the current iteration.

I used to play multiple mains. Not since starting legion though. Last 3 expansions were aiming to have end game be a non stop grind. So it’s hard to"finish" a main, and start a new one.

So in turn, I don’t play any more.

yep. why i dont play alts. dont have the energy or drive to do it. switching mains? sure, it is more reasonable if im not working on my main. there still lacks certain catchup mechanics i think. conduit farming, leggo farming, renown tied behind quests, reputation, etc.

id like to play alts but im not going to do it unless i just stop playing my main. im not going to stop playing my main because im still progressing raid.

also, i really dont want to just put my druid on the sidelines. i really like this toon.

I actually love this reply. I can think of at least a handful of friends off the top of my head who ended up in the same boat.

You’re basically asking for a class change at this point … Alt friendly is pretty far from what you’re asking …

Wish people would get that this aint ff14 , its not a all in one character …

Alt , get to 220ilvl just from korthia , do some m+ , craft 235 legndaries for it … if anything the renown is the only thing that aint alt friendly at this point !

Can farm torghast non stop for soul ash (235 legendary)
With raider io you can probably skip right into 10s , or run with friends n guild , get carried some , and boom fully geared out (230-235+)
Run raid with guildies , which probably all have 3 set bonus and get traded a few pieces …
Grind renown , which comes from everywhere until very close to current cap .

Do this 2 weeks and you’re caught up EASY , but in no way should you have everything your main has , just because lol …

I’ve been an hpal since cata and have never played anything else

And now i have to play a resto druid

Not only do i have to learn while being undergeared, i have to learn a brand new class where hitting the wrong button gets me insta killed because i’m undergeared

Can’t. I’ve been on the same main for 17 years lol

Gratz on your 4/10 heroic and still non-ksm profile.

Always good to hear the commentary from the randoms.

EDIT: To clarify, yeah anyone can catchup to YOUR progress in 2 weeks… but that’s not considered progress. KSM isn’t even the portals for 20 keys, and you haven’t even seen half the raid on it’s relatively easy difficulty.

I think we should just lower the bar for entry into end-game regardless of how many “mains” you have.

Gear is easy to get, but Blizzard for some reason terrified of letting gear alone be important. So ontop of gear, you gotta get domination sockets + gems, level them up, get conduits, level them up too, farm renown, slog through the campaign and so on.

yeah. i have a different idea for alts overall. im new to the game, started in 8.2. i came from games like dota 2 where i could just play whatever i wanted. its tough to have a different mindset.

one thing i would say though, i do have alts i started only for pvp. i dont like to pvp on my druid. i still have to do a ton of crap just to compete in rated pvp. heck, i quit playing my pvp alts because i got so tired of getting stomped in random bgs because of the power gap.

i could get on board and accept alts are for doing other things, but i cant even do that unless we’re talking mount farming, mog farming, fishing, etc. nothing tied to power progression. i guess i could just do random bgs and accept the pummeling, do heroic dungeons, do lfr raid, etc. just not interested in doing that.

Yeah definitely agree. Gear is fine as it is for alts, but gear is only like 50-60% of your player power currently. The other 40-50% is a mindless slog that makes people want to quit the game doing it once, let alone 2-3 more times.

compared to past xpacs? this xpac is the most alt friendly I’ve seen. granted there are some tedious aspects but you DON’T have to be equal to your main in every aspect. there’s alot that you can do on your main to get your alts in a good place. the only drag is if your trying to keep up 2 toons to max standards, but once you get to that point, is it really an alt? or 2+ mains.
