I'm sad about the Covenants

Imagine seeing how aversely effected the Covenants are, how they’re crippled by this drought, only to say to 3/4ths of them “Nah eff you, I’m only going to help THESE guys”

And then those guys send you to help out the other guys - but you can’t use their abilities to make meaningful choices that will help kill the big bad guy.

It’s entirely your choice to either go for performance or identity. Most players could take the highest geared character with perfect stats, socketed, the works you know, and still do less dps than someone that is actually good.

Choose the covenant you want.

I don’t really have a problem with them, and I actually kinda like them.

BUT. I’m already mad about what comes next, with a new expac, when all this specialness simply disappears. If covenants were meant to add some new twists to identity for toons, then ripping away those bits later will feel bad.

I am sure by the time you get to max renown with your main covenant then an option to go to a 2nd one (at 50% renown gain speed) will be implamented.

Then when you are on your 2nd one max, you can get at 3rd one at 25% renoun gain. and then when you max 3rd one you can get a 4th one at 10% renoun gain.

Blizzard loves gating so I see this as the ultimate gate.

Also you have to pick what covenant abilities you want to use, and only can change once a week/reset.

Ooooor you can choose the covenant you want and play alts for the other covenants. Bonus point to catch up renown mechanic that lets you experience that covenant’s story without the timegate.

I’m Kyrian, my monk is necrolord, my druid will eventually be night fae and my warlock will be venthyr.

Yeah but I only can wear (so im assuming mog) the armor if im in that covenant.

I want 1 toon with all 4.

You’ll get that once we get in next expansion. It doesn’t have to happen now.

But its my X-mogs and I want it now!

Is there confirmation that will be the case? I really want it to be because there are mogs I absolutely love for some of my characters, but the covenant ability is just garbage to play.

There isn’t. But I don’t see how they could justify locking transmog to a covenant you don’t even interact with anymore.

They don’t need justification. Or reason. Or compassion/empathy for their customers. They don’t even need to make sense.

While you’re argument is reasonable - it doesn’t apply to these developers as history has shown us many times over.

They have history of unlocking things you had a choice. Challenge mode of Mists of Pandaria. By getting silver of all dungeons, you could choose one of 4 pandaren phoenixes. Once the achievement became unobtainable, every character on the account had access to all phoenixes, regardless of how many you had acquired.

But I challenge you to find an example of the other way around that big bad blizzard didn’t do that.

still seems to fit the concept. sacrificing their (character) identify for power or because they were told to do so.

its all about choice. sometimes you get both sometimes you have to sacrifice one for the other.

for me, i went Night Fae the second they said “we” get soul Shapes. its perfect for a “master shapeshifter”
from there i can choose to min max within the choice. just a bit lucky it ended up being fairly good all around.

Covenants are just Order Halls with more time gating and extra steps

Yeah but class halls didn’t punish you for changing specs or doing different forms of content on the same toon

It is already here all the covenants are friendly with us regardless of which one you choose to represent . We are constantly going to help the other covenants out and are earning rep with them as we are doing it.

We told people in GD during the Beta that they were all on the same side . No one wanted to believe it because they thought it was cool that the covenants are battling each other when in fact all of the covenant conflicts are all internal.

I would say make the soul binds of your covenant work with any of the covenant class abilities say via conduits . If they want to tie some power to the ability with the covenant it comes from give them ranks that increase as the rep with the covenant the ability came from increases.

This.

It makes sense to give the hero access to all abilities they’ve earned. Restrict them to one at a time - sure. But don’t time-gate the ability to switch and make it out to be some “betrayal of trust”.

Making them swappable doesn’t help the other abilities in the end though. For real, for mage nothing compares to the Night Fae one and I just do not like the look of it or the Night Fae in general. I’m not too sure how you even buff the other covenants either for Mage. I’ll sport Deathborne until the end so it’s not much of an issue for me, I can just hope for a buff to Fleshcraft or Deathborne :woman_shrugging:
