literally why my old guild transferred to faerlina. All i could recruit were spanish speaking players on sulfuras who lied about knowing english then had to spend 10minutes explaining fights to them in spanish. Some people in this thread have clearly never recruited for a guild and it shows
Are there bundles for character moves or is this individual?
Sounds like a problem we had on Benediction in Vanilla where we had a bunch of Brazillians claim to understand English and would proceed to wipe raids lol.
it seems you do need a recap, because you dont understand why people chose benediction/ferelina etc. When your on a dead server and your weighing out your options for transfers, what seems the most logical. Low population realm that could potentially die leading to another transfer? a PVP server that has the potential to tip in the other factions direction leading to it spiraling out of control/another transfer? or a massive server (your faction) that has a healthy player base?
so as you can see, its not a tough decision. you gotta realize benediction is the third/fourth server for some people. so again all players wanted was stability, thats it. benediction, ferelina and other mega servers offered this. thats why we chose this path. I get there are certain individuals that believe policing population/faction balance goes against the spirit of classic. but if blizzard was more proactive about monitoring server balance to begin with maybe i could have stayed on sulfuras.
Off topic, but did you used to play a paladin on ED? Your name looks familiar.
Yep! Ret Paladin by the same name, that’s me
Oh awesome! Glad to see ya back, im pretty sure we were fighting horde together on that wall back in MoP. Apologies if im wrong haha!
Hah, sounds likely, so much WPvP back in MoP, was good times.
Yeah, I agree that Blizzard should have acted earlier to prevent the damage that transfer locust players would cause.
So far as I’ve seen/read, they have not really given Classic transfer discounts. Retail has gotten plenty in the same timeframe, though.
Digging from old memory bank at best.
this is facts and the only fix to this problem WITHOUT bnet merging every server. (but also allowing people to xfer to full servers as well. If people want to wait, then so be it Blizz should not dictate what servers we go to and from whether its paid or not
I agree with OP transfers should be made free.
When classic launched i took the free transfer to arcanite reaper and played happily but the server died a slow death. My guild was one of the last three on the realm and we managed to clear BWL with 30 people regularly but recruitment was impossible and dwindling numbers week by week took its toll.
Then we server transferred to thunderfury at the time one of the balanced high pop realms and we had fun untill a mass exodus started to benediction when mega servers became a thing, people would log on just to spam “dead server” everyday in lfg/trade chat. Well the server eventually died and i forgot about my mage.
My only choice at that moment for raiding was benediction or grobbulus and i just followed my friends hoping the population would fill our guild. Gdkps burnt people out on raiding fairly quickly and having to spam AV for their BIS.
Looking at just metrics tells you nothing about the health of the game, we all want to see an original AV to break the meta of rushing drek or nowadays called drek or kek.
Im all for good changes to the game, mainly just being able to play at all. We will never see the original wrath as we didnt start with 3.0 and thats okay, we can imitate it but make it more fun.
@blizzard just refund the $15 for this month easy.
I finally read through the whole thread and just wanted to reply to some things. First of all, this thread is interesting.
Second, the people on this forum love to divide themselves and make a black side (it’s Blizzards fault) and a white side (it’s the players fault) and never really realize that the truth is shades of grey. This is a constant on these forums and is definitely true here. Blame both.
Thirdly and onto the long part, I spent over a year trying to get Blizzard to change something so that PVP servers would not die after starting to see a cascade. Transfers should have been turned off a long time ago (instead PVE to PVP server transfers got enabled…) I also tried to talk a lot of people away from following the herd and leaving servers. I probably spent more time trying to help stop this wave than any other person anywhere. Period.
After fighting for other servers for a while I then watched the ally side of my server (Earthfury) die and then a lot later watched the horde side of my server die. I stuck with the ally side (which I also played on) until there were no more guilds clearing content (except one who I respect to this day as they are still on the server), so until the “end”.
On the horde side once my guild could no longer recruit because the server population was too low my choice was to transfer with my guild to save it or pretty much quit the game and not help my guild, a guild I have been part of for 3 years now with people who I really like. I’d seen what happened with my ally and so many time with others on these forums so I transferred to Faerlina too with the guild after we discussed transfer options at length. I did not want to do this but I did what I had to do. There was nothing I could do to stop the server from dying as one person. I tried. Nobody can guilt me either because I did everything I could do, especially not people who were active on these forums and never said anything about the server problems.
Interestingly some of the people trolling this thread now were trolling server issue threads before. They are just all-around not good people and they feed off of others having a bad time.
I honestly think that if a person hasn’t gone through the server dying thing they cannot grasp the entire situation and they shouldn’t talk. Grats to them on their healthy server but they don’t get it. A lot of the PVE servers people have been lucky too as Blizzard stopped the worst of it before their server became wastelands.
If you don’t want to leave then don’t. Do what is best for you and your guild. At the end of the day, this matters the most. Don’t listen to trolls either. Even the people attacking you are doing so for their own reasons.
I have characters on 3 servers and I don’t plan to go to a fourth server or leave the servers I am on.
Yeah, lets blame the players for wanting to enjoy the game with their friends, form groups quickly, and be a part of the larger MMO community. They should have stayed on their dead realm and helped the three people online find the map icon.
You see, if they actually wanted to fix the problem and cared about player experience, they would do this. But they don’t care about the players and they will not do transfers to any open server because they want people to pay them for transfers.
If Blizz cared about fixing the problem and not about money grabs, the bullet proof solution to make everyone happy would be free transfers for any and all realms with no restrictions besides maybe a 24 hour cooldown or something.
This does not require any programming or coding that we know they are incompetent of doing. It is as simple as flipping the switch on the transfer service to free.
This means no realms have to be locked. No realms will experience outrageous queues (unless players choose that). You can leave to go play on dead realm during busy hours and then come back during guild events. Switching between realms would work the same as transfers work now, but no realm would be restricted or locked. All free of course. This essentially makes the entire game a giant mega server when you think about it.
I agree. It’s amazing that some people think that we all just moved to these servers from dead servers for the specific purpose of creating Queue’s. Like an attempt to troll the original population on the server. I was lucky in that life got in the way of my play time and I took a break for something like 8 months. When I came back there were only 4 players online on my server. I say I was lucky because during my 8 month break, a lot of my friends paid to transfer all their toons on more than one occasion, finally settling on Grob. When I came back I was able to take the free transfer there for all my toons and got to play for 4.5 months before pre-patch. The original population had 0 weight on my choice to go there.
There are some people here acting all high and mighty like it wasn’t dumb luck that their original server just happened to be the one that dead servers eventually flocked to. The population on all servers was diminishing after the hype and without transfers they would have all been low. Maybe not dead, but noticeably stagnant.
We were hoping blizzard would combine skeram with other low pop servers for a long time, gave up on them properly managing their servers and combining the dead and dieing and just transfered to our best option.
Its tottally on blizzard for not fixing the problem of dieing servers to begin with. If they had done the realm consolodations last year around this time we wouldnt be here
This was honestly a MASSIVE issue in tbc.
So many new guilds who could only get 19 people a week and would pug the final 6 spots. Week after week…
Instead of dying as they should have, or merging, or being way better at recruiting… They xferred to try and solve their problems.
The worst of 4 possibilities if you ask me. So many guilds completely unwilling to resolve their own demise so they figure forcing their guildies to pay $25 per character and claiming their server dead was the proper response.
News flash… tons of those guilds died as they learned recruiting on the mega servers was insanely harder and more vigorous, and now their guildies who were sick of giving loot to pug fills have 20x more guilds trying to poach them.
