I'm legitimately worried about joining Mythics. Do I need to switch to Assassination from Sub?

Well, I just can’t quit the Rogue. I’m still having a ton of fun as Sub and constantly keep finding myself back on my Rogue no matter what alt I’m on.

The thing is, I’m legitimately worried about running Mythics - and I’m not even talking high keys, just 0’s because of how bad my AoE damage is in Heroics.

It looks like really all of the specs are underperforming in M+ but most of the updated tier rankings have put Assassination pretty high, though I’m not sure where that’s coming from based off of logs.

Just from the personal experience here, does Assassination put up bigger numbers in M’s? I know I’m not going to achieve Mage, Lock, Pally or Hunter numbers but I’d like to be servicable enough to not have people say something or apologize beforehand.

Thanks!

sub rogue is fine to play even to +10s.
You will probably have a hard time getting invited playing one of the least popular spec for m+

You’ll have to be sin after you complete all of your 10’s-11’s or you’ll never get an invite

To my understanding, Assassination is actually performing really well in keys. Think it’s just a bit off of being strictly “in the meta”, but it’s really close.

As to why that’s the case, I’m not a lifelong Sin Rogue player, but if I had to guess I’d say it’s:

  1. Just generally tuned higher than Sub/Outlaw, and Outlaw still has target caps in AoE.
  2. Can silence casters with stealth garottes on pull, which has insane value given how many mobs have instant recasts. Being able to silence a multitude of mobs on pull or on Vanish is some valuable utility given the current dungeon roster fields a good amount of caster mobs. Also puts a damage reduction on mobs.
  3. Can maintain priority damage on one target with cooldown windows, and can generate a lot of cleave/AoE off of that ST cooldown window due to Caustic Spatter.

Alright thanks for all the replies. I’ll stick to it and learn the rotations better.

Don’t mean to hijack the thread but any number crunchers in here?

With the October 8th buff to outlaw, will it bring its dps performance on par with sin?

I’m wondering because I want to know if I should start gearing for sin since I can no longer get into groups as outlaw for 9s and 10s. No one would invite me.

Thanks

Sin has god like AOE in M+ because every single thing gathers around the center point of the tank. Unlike raid where everything is all spread apart mostly. It’s very easy to maintain at least 1.2 million on trash at 606 ilvl. I’m sure if you pop CDs on trash and have crazy gear you can go much much higher, but Sin really needs stuff to live longer for that to be possible.

I doubt it honestly. Start getting some daggers so you can multi spec.

Easily. It’s not even that far behind now. If anything Trickster is apparently showing as way ahead already.
Sin/DS: 1167k
Outlaw/FB: 1109k
Outlaw/Trickster: 1254k
Sin/FB: 980k
Sub: 916 and around 790.k

Also, the numbers for Outlaw/FB seem to be mostly coming from the HO build as it’s apparently a lot more popular, which has lower output than KiR. If those numbers were based on KiR alone and the HO variation was taken out of the equation it could be a fair amount higher I’d imagine.

Problem with Trickster is, it’s unplayable in any high end keys due to its reliance on Killing Spree and the fact that it could kill you or your party at any time during the key

I wouldn’t say “unplayable” but it’s definitely awful having to hold yourself back from using it.
If they’re reworking KS which they seem to have said they are, I’m definitely switching.
KS with evasion or CLoS should make it pretty safe to use a lot of the time. And I’d much rather deal with instances where I have to hold back on KS than suffer the horrendous clutching for procs and struggling to reset AR that KiR suffers from due to bad RNG or overly obnoxious downtime.

If you enjoy Sub dont be discouraged. It has stronger dedensives/self healing than Sin, its just more cooldown reliant.

Now imagine it still had Shadow Dance instead of the underwhelming 2nd charge of Vanish.

I only ever really minded Shadow Dance going to Assassination because it was basically a core Subtlety ability just going to the class and nothing in the way of a meaningful replacement or other theme-appropriate thing going to Subtlety.

I took more issue with Shadow Dance going to Outlaw, tbh.
