It’s not about big battles. It’s about being able to get around the world without bumping into players every 30 sec.
That’s how I remember my experience back in the day. I was able to take in the world without checking the shoulder every time I cast a spell. Or I could go around and farm something I needed without fighting more than 2-3 people at the spot I was at.
This time when farming elemental fires at uncork I was lucky to have less than 5 at a time at any time of the day. Usually it was 5-6 allies and 1-2 horde

You actually have that expectation during the 1 phase where honor can only be gained out in wPvP? Even if realms only had 2k players, your expectations are steep.

but I DIDN’T EVEN CHOSE MY SERVER!!! My friends wanted to play on a PvP server and now I’m stuck here with no way out. My only options are to quit or leave my friends behind.

It certainly did happen in Vanilla, back on Lightninghoof. There was an epic pitched battle almost every night trying to get into MC and/or BWL.
