I'm confused about the China thing

All I need to understand is that Blizz lose money.

Don’t see this as a problem tbh. If I recall china was the reason many game changes have been made to affect ALL versions of wow because of china alone.

Just know one thing - panda land was made exactly that reason.

They’re not losing all their progress because of politics. No.

Quite simply, in order for Blizzard to operate in China it needs a Chinese company within China to partner with. No partner, no operations. Until recently Netease was that partner, but the contract between Netease and Blizzard did not collapse because of politics. That contract was due to expire and so Blizzard reached out not only to Netease to negotiate a new contract, but also to other potential partners in China. Effectively shopping around for a good deal.

Netease did not like this and have been acting belligerent since then. Lashing Blizzard for their actions (despite the fact that they did nothing wrong) and refusing to give Blizzard a 6-month extension on the contract while negotiations were ongoing. They also harshly objected to the archive feature that Blizzard created which would allow Chinese WoW players to save their progress locally so they don’t lose it when the servers shut down.

What is likely going to happen, if I guess correctly, is that Blizzard will find a new partner in China, work to re-establish everything in the region and once they have WoW operational again, they’ll let people use their locally stored progress to resume where they left off. But this will no doubt take some time, especially with the current moves with Microsoft buying Activision Blizzard.

So in the short term, no WoW for China. In the long term? They’ll likely get access to it again after Blizzard secures a new contract with either Netease (unlikely at this point) or another partner.

imagine your country be so mess up, that don’t let you play games, next they tell you when to sleep. what job you should do, zero freedom!

  1. The Blitzchung thing was WAY overblown to begin with and the people I saw harping on and on about it the most were people who already weren’t playing WoW / Blizzard games or at least already had a negative view of the company. In my circle in particular, the only guy really zealous about it was someone who USED to play, but hadn’t for years. Of course it’s easy to justify hating on a company you already don’t support.
  1. Different groups of people. Just because 1 group is loud about a thing, doesn’t mean a separate group can’t be similarly loud about a seemingly opposing thing.

Blizzards idea of inclusivity isn’t going to appeal to everyone.

China is about 3% of Acti-Bliz revenue.

Thats just how it goes with online games sadly. A game i’d been playing off and on since around 2016 got shut down in september of 2022. I still miss it.

Panda land was an april fools joke when kids were acting up due to kung fu panda. What?

I think most people are fine with it.

I know I’m more at ease with Blizzards not doing business with the CCP. With all the revelations about Tic Toc and China having back door access to user info.

Think I’ll go to the Winnie the Pooh picnic in Stormsong Valley and celebrate.

China being hell on earth exhibit #2567.

No they aren’t? That information is being saved blizz even stated this. So if a new deal with a new company is formed they still have access to chars and all the progress.

Ya, that’s entirely them going more and more authoritarian.

Single party cult of personality
Nationalism
Forced State sponsored capitalism

The type of system that is doesn’t begin with a “C”
And if you take into account the treatment of Buddhist and wiegers, It also doesn’t begin with an “F”

I feel that. I still miss H1Z1 just survive.

I am enjoying watching this like watching a car fire. I have no stake in whatever and I have no idea how it will impact anything.

I am just here man. Just watching one company get burned after sacrificing so much to pander to China.

pretty sure the multiple Same Gendered centaurs chasing each other for marriage wouldn’t fly well in china either…
or the two lovers we get free Artisans Mettle

alot of things wouldn’t fly well in china tbh, see proto drakes eating flesh?
Nope! he’s eating bread!

so it means less work for blizz i guess.

I mean why? Do you consider Microsoft is greedier than ActivisionBlizzard atm?
