From what I understand, the upcoming Xbox branded “thing” is a sort of micro-PC with console-like interface running through Windows. It will natively be able to run anything that Windows can run.
This includes WoW.
If someone buys this Xbox micro-PC and plays WoW with a controller, then what’s the difference between playing it on a “console” and playing it on a PC with a controller and the ConsolePort addon?
No matter what, WoW is going to be available on a new platform, which will bring in new players, regardless of whether or not it’s with a keyboard and mouse or a controller.
I really do not understand the anger people are having over this.

worry less about what other people are going to do with the time they spend in game and you’ll be happier overall .

Just out of curiosity, …how would they know if another player is playing on a console?
I had to look up what that Rog Ally thing is, as I am not an Xbox player. Either way, I consider that a handheld console.
But what we are talking about is something that is coming in the future. It will be a little Windows machine, basically. They’re calling it the next Xbox console. It will be able to run WoW as it is, basically because it is just going to be a little PC.
There has been zero mention of a WoW 2.
Edit: Rog Ally is Asus, not Xbox related. Whoops. Not up on the console world, me.
My anger stems from people thinking that this version of WoW will exist on an Xbox One or PS5.
It runs windows 11. Its a handheld PC. Xbox is a different ecosystem.
that would be an issue.
If dudes are complaining about the add ons when some are probably a lack of skill this would have them rant too. Note I am not judging, I know I suck at raid. I don’t blame addons, I know its a pebcak issue lol.
making them actually play this game moving and such will lose them faster. Some really need the tab targetting. and wows lack of things like say…shot placement.
PLayer x can get headshots off all night long. they will top meters. Player Y can’t hit the broad side of a barn. less meter numbers. there is where the rants would come from.
Not hating the idea. I’ve wanted more action on say hunter for a while. Headshots wuld be nice. I just put an arrow in a boss’ eye, gimme more damage. wow has too many fans of tab targetting is a big hurdle to the idea though.
Except it was never announced for current gen consoles. If people are thinking that is the case, then they haven’t read the articles and that’s on them.
We are really splitting hairs here. It’s a little console thing that runs windows. Consoles have been a type of computer for ages already, they just ran their proprietary software. Now that software, for Xbox at least, will be Windows.
Exactly.
And again, there is no ‘next gen’. Xbox is exiting out of the Console Wars. They are making PCs.
A console is most often defined as ‘a device wholly relegated to gaming’.
Thing is, you already don’t know who is keyboard turning and using one button.
“Xbox president Sarah Bond talked in vague terms about what Microsoft is going for with its next-gen console, but did suggest it will be a premium hybrid PC and console.”
“After Releasing a $1,000 Handheld, Microsoft Has Said Its Next-Gen Xbox Console ‘Is Going to Be a Very Premium, Very High-End Curated Experience’”
“Xbox fans are now wincing at the thought of how expensive the next-gen console will be…”
Yeah pricey for sure.

Okay, I think you are nit picking for the sake of nit picking. I am just going to ignore you from now on.

No, I am not.
A PC is a wholly different ecosystem than an Xbox gaming console.

I hope there will be discords where you need to register and stream your pc setup to join M+, etc. I’m not playing with some dude on his sofa pressing controller bumpers to spot heal/select the party.

That is… legit what I am saying. The announcement was for the new Xbox “thing” that is a micro-PC, presented as a console. Whether it is technically classified as a console or not, the announcement was for THAT and not the current generation of home video game consoles. I don’t know where that assumption is coming from.
I’m sorry, but I’m a little confused here.
Only the so called ‘journalists’ are billing it as the ‘next xbox console’.
The same guys that couldnt beat the tutorial of Bendy and the Ink Machine.
Only controller players will be playing on Xbox. They probably have some handheld component coming…
Aright, then I will bite. By your logic, consoles have not been consoles for a long time, then. They have been able to play games, watch movies, and do a lot of the stuff a computer could do for ages. This new console, and the handheld one they currently have out is no different.
It is still a device designed for gaming, it’s just using different software and going about it differently.
I literally play on PC with a controller and have for years. I have cleared mythics with no issue with my controller setup.
The Xbox One and Playstation ecosystems are primarily gaming ecosystems, whereas the PC ecosystem is primarily for workstations.
MS wants to collide the two, to increase profit margins.
