Yes! This! Most all the whispers arguably have happened or are happening currently.
And sure the whispers could mean more than 1 thing that is also the point blizzard intentionally uses fractals or repeating story beats.
Okay but people love making lore based on cold reading inkblot prophesies and unfortunately this includes the current writers who are also delivering the payoff lol.
I’m no Lovecraftian scholar but I recall someone else here (maybe even you) talking about how it isn’t so much that gazing upon Cthulhu drives you insane on the spot, but rather exposes you to knowledge both vast and fleeting.
The insanity comes from spending the rest of your life trying to get another look at it.

To get real for a sec that’s one of my great despairs in life. I’m gonna die without ever learning the true extent of the universe, or what predated the Big Bang, and such. 
(As someone who loves math, the idea of the universe being finite OR infinite are equally fascinating to me. What’s outside the “void?” Impenetrable nothingness? But wouldn’t that make it, by definition, NOT void?)

Got whiplash, thinking I ended up in a Hazbin Hotel forum.
Not until he’s been cleared of all loot and achievements so no one ever has to run his lackluster raid again.
That’s not the “cliff notes” version, that is the actual reality of Lovecraft’s stories. The protagonists who went insane weren’t corrupted, turned, whatever. Their kinds literally broke at the vast, incomprehensible horrors they witnessed.
That’s a little overly simplistic (what I mean when I say “Cliff notes”), as the rest of my post goes into if you’re curious.

…Fallacy? I don’t think that word means what you think it means. It’s not a fancy way of saying “that’s wrong”, it’s a specific sort of logical error, and if you believe I made one, rather than merely thinking I’m incorrect, you can go into it. All I was trying to do was point out that there’s a lot more to Lovecraft than what some interpretations show, and I’d love to see any return of the old gods in WOW delve into that a bit more than we’ve ever gotten out of them previously.

Yeah, those mutterings are pure gibberish.
They seem more like the vague ramblings of fortune-tellers and astrology columns that could be just about anything. The only thing compelling about them is the the fanatical and often blind belief that they must mean something.
So it’s become a self-fulfilling prophecy. People are telling themselves lies to perpetuate the first one, instead of admitting they were wrong and it’s nothing but Mulgore Fertilizer. And eventually, some random piece of it is going to stick by pure chance, and they won’t be able to tell the difference.
Step away from the gear.
I wish I could feel that way.
Then again dying eventually is probably a mercy given the direction the world is headed. 
These writers aren’t talented enough and don’t have enough foresight to setup something like the Il’gynoth prophecies and actually have it culminate in something meaningful over time. It was just mystery box writing with no plan. It could be cool if there were better writers.
Il’gynoth and N’zoth are really what the void ‘faction’ should be like, and the void invasion should have been like horrific visions on steroids. I think that’s what most people expected for an expansion called Midnight based around the ‘darkest hour’ of the void breaking into material reality and invading azeroth. At least something like legion where there’s some feeling of overwhelming threat. Instead you get re-used voidwalker assets and purple elementals that are isolated only to the few zones of the expansion, with little to nohing happening elsewhere in azeroth. Extremely lame and lazy.
They’ve also dropped numerous major plot points. Where are the followers of the old gods, twilight hammer, Azshara, etc. in all this? What deal did Xal’atath make with N’zoth to leave the dagger? Where is Wrathion, the black dragon who hates the void for what it did to his father, and him? Where are the Titans, when the void is endangering one of their most important projects (incubating the world soul of azeroth)? These are the kinds of things they respond to with urgency in this universe.
Just really rubbish writers.
