If you were in control what would be some things you immediately change for Blizzard to benefit the Warcraft franchise?
I would:
Start a Warcraft show on a streaming service most likely centered around the story of W3. Budget would be high for this and I would push for multiple seasons to cover W3 at least.
Put WoW on gamepass for a massive resurgence of players. I don’t even think there is a MMO on gamepass. I would probably add an additional $5 fee similar to what EA does.
I would start development on a new Warcraft RTS game. It would release in time to bridge the gap between The Last Titan (The final WoW expansion) and WoW 2.
Anyone thinking a sequel to an MMORPG in 2024+ is a good idea is someone who’s already addicted to MMOs and doesn’t understand that it’s largely a stagnant market.
It would split an existing playerbase for not very much outside interest.
I’ll just keep laughing at you while we have:
Classic Era, Classic Era Hardcore, Season of Discovery, Classic Cataclysm, MoP Remix, Retail.
That is your opinion I think a new MMORPG is much needed. The only thing that is stagnant is the same old MMOs we’ve had for 10-20 years. Time for something new.
The problem with WoW2 is that they’re going to lose all the collectors if they can’t take their stuff with them. In order to be successful, it would have to be a good enough game to not only bring along many current players, but to compete against other new games. Blizzard games have been weak performers in the MMO market for a while. The same people who designed the game since it started to lose interest are going to be in charge. Why do you think they could do this successfully?
This is a “What if” scenerio and I would figure something out for the collectors of the previous game. Probably give them something really special no one else can have like a tabard. Wouldn’t a tabard be great?
I would love to see this in AV. Just clash right in the middle. Can it be a clown car? Something unsuspecting. Would love everyone to dismount at same time and there randomly being 40 people.
I would add WoW servers in each expansion (keeping TBC wrath) and let players move up between expansions when they are ready for free, or stay in their favorite one forever.
I would also make a single player version of this game with actual good bots for npc companions for everything.
Do a realm reborn. Start from ground zero. Delete everything and start fresh.
Keep the old world. Cataclysm never happened.
Remove all playable furry races. No worgen, pandas, scalies, vulpera, etc.
Keep cosmic stuff abstract and out-of-reach. Keep things low fantasy (basically avoid doing what shadowlands did and we’re gucci)
No more level cap raises every single expac. Invest in horizontal progression mechanics instead (do what Blizzard does best - steal. Guild Wars 2 has a great horizontal progression system - steal it from them, just like in the good old days)
No more mindless fetch quests (kill X boars, gather X herbs, etc). Every zone should have a long story-driven questline. Reduce the amount of quests and increase the XP/rewards from those that are left. Every quest should feel meaningful and story-heavy. Make me feel like the decisions I make along my journey actually matter.
Romanceable companions (a la SWTOR, Mass Effect, ESO). Create interesting companions that you recruit along your journey. Create a separate tab you can summon them from. Each will have an approval meter. If it reaches the lowest point - companion either leaves or fights you and dies. If it reaches the highest point - you get to have a relationship with that companion. Each companion will have a questline attached to recruiting them and further questlines if you decide to pursue a romantic relationship with them. (once again do what you do best - steal from others)
No more cringe “family disney” stuff. Alliance hates the Horde and the Horde hates the Alliance. Their conflict is eternal and infinite. Those who sympathize with the opposite faction are considered traitors and are either exiled or put in prison. Make it World of WARcraft again.
Keep your hands to yourself and don’t drink your coworkers’ breast milk.
