If you were given 1m Gold, or 1 Silver

It is a mathematical gotcha question. If you take the 1 Silver that doubles in value every day for 30 days you will have much more gold than if you took the million out right.

No, they aren’t. I hate those things.

The what?

No, cannot say I have ever seen that movie… also the hell?

The same math riddle is in the clip.

Yes. I watch that clip… but still… you don’t expect to see bodies hanging from trees in these parts.

There is an or but there isn’t a comma, so we can assume a break in sentence where it suits us.

Its not just a mathematical gotcha question though, what if I only need 1 million gold? Why wait 30 days to get 5mill when I have 30 more days to enjoy the 1 million.

Arguably it just shows people are greedy wanting the bigger sum even if they dont need it.

I would understand if 1 million wasnt enough gold for tbc but it is more than I need so why wait 30 days when I can have want I need now?

You will eventually need more then 1 million gold if classic goes on long enough… Actually need is not the word want… No one needs a portable auction house.

But thats the difference need vs want, I only need 1 million so I would take that maybe in 8 or 9 years I run out of gold but I wont be here.

Atm the way wow is going I will be playing ff14 in december when the oce servers launch.

So why would I deny myself 30 days of having the 1million gold? Just to have more gold on my account when I eventually stop playing? I also did that in 2007 spent 10hrs a day ah farming made the equivalent of 20-30 million gold and just left it there when I quit, the biggest AH goblin we had was over 500 mill gold but he was only level 30 when I quit on his main.

I am older and alot more self aware now I know when things are going downhill and wow sadly has begun its downward spiral so its time to get the enjoyment you can out of the game and be ready to move on

I mean sure, but that’s work.

You could take the 1S and just play the game however you wanted for a month knowing you have, for all intents and purposes, infinite gold in the classic WoW Era.

1M gold is pretty close too, but it’s still a fifth of what you get. After you get the 5.3M you get to do what you say you’d do with a mill and go crazier if you want. Or kick back and relax because unless gold making is what fires your rockets you’ve already won the gold game.

Not even long term, in 20 days you get a million and then you neever catch up investing. Sorry 24 days, its 1 silver not 1g.

It is with my level of investment and spending. As I said, I couldn’t spend a fourth of that gold, let alone more than a million that I’d ever need to see such wealth to care about it. And more money could be made periodically investing in the AH which gives me something to do. Give me passive unlimited gold and all drive to play the game just dies when I have nothing to strive for and I can just buy it.

Having a use for the money is irrelevant.
Youll never beat doubling your money everyday now matter how good you are at investing.

I’m sorry sir but I’ll express my point one last time. I was given a choice and I chose 1 million as it would suffice my needs and investing a bit here and there gives me something to do. I DO NOT need mass wealth as it absolutely kills the game. Last time explaining that thanks.

Not really that crazy to do. Take for example super mana pots. They sell for like…2g to 2.5g on my server. The raw mats cost like 1.5G to buy on the AH.

So you can make 1G per 1.5G and then lose 5% on the AH cut. If you poured in all mill into that flip you’d come out with 1.583M gold after the AH fee.

However you’d likely oversaturate the market and that’s assuming there’s a mill worth of herbs on the market. But assuming you could do that you could make almost 600k in a single sweep and repeating that process just gets more and more lucrative.

If you were really good and had the time you’d be doing stuff like buying out the entire primal market, buying all transmutes and/or controlling the market for relisting primals or other important mats like gems or enchanting mats. You could buy out the entire market and really nobody could do anything about it unless they just wanted to wait you out and with a million you’ve got some deep pockets.

I’m still on team 5.3M gold though. It’s just less work and 1M vs 5.3M is picking between being a billionaire or trillionaire. Take ez mode trillionaire and call it a day. But some people live for this kind of stuff and if they were so inclined I’m sure someone out there could quintuple their gold over a month if they were so inclined.

Even if you sold that many pots, you realize how much time youd spend staring at your screen while crafting right? You wouldnt even be playing the game. You clearly dont value your own time.

Some people literally play the game to make gold.

Realistically you’d just want to control markets with it instead of trying to do an actual flip though because that’s like 500 hours worth of crafting.

“1 million gold or 1 silver that doubled in value x”

is different than

“1 million gold, or 1 silver that doubled in value x”

We could break down the first sentence to mean “1 million gold that doubled in value x or 1 silver that doubled in value x”, obviously choosing the former. If I asked “would you like to go to the chinese restaurant or the italian restaurant to eat”, it would be implied that both prompts are making use of “to eat”, rather than me asking if you’d like to go to a chinese restaurant, to loiter around maybe, OR to an italian restaurant to eat.

Thread ruined, you forgot a comma tips fedora

Fair enough. You could probably spend less time waiting a month for your wealth to a mass or three and then buy everything and list it at whatever price.

I mean don’t get me wrong I’m team 5.3M and AFK to victory. Someone would probably see it as a challenge though. The only question is who has more gold in 30 days time and I would bet someone out there could do it.

Real power move would just control the primal market.
