For a serious answer: pretty much anything new would excite me at this point. All the story in BfA has failed to interest me in any way. Some good concepts I’ve seen include:
Journey to the Center of Azeroth
The sword in Silithus is removed, revealing a path to the innards of our planet. Plenty of Titan architecture, winding tunnels, enormous Jules Vernian caverns. And finally getting to see Azjol Nerub.
The Twofold Light
Cosmic exploration. We go to the fragments of K’aresh for an adventure with the ethereals. Lots of Indian/Middle Eastern themed new creatures and societies.
Wrath of the Lich Queen starring Sylvanas Windrunner.
I’m saying this out loud so it won’t happen. Hopefully.
I would make BFA the next expansion and replace it currently with an Argus expansion that we should have gotten if people weren’t so sick of the whole fel green stuff by the end of Legion.
But, since that’s done and over, I would make the next expansion The Rise of the Black Empire. It would have a heavy focus on Life and Death as is predicted by many at this point, if not a focus on Light and Void. It would expand upon the current story with Sylvannas and co as well as show us whats actually going on with Calia Menethil, Bolvar Fordragon, and Taelia Fordragon. And for the late game “timeless isles patch”, it would be the Dragon Isles, introducing more lore regarding the dragons and their current state, as well as the rising threat of the Twilight Drakes, and the birth of the Infinite Dragonflight that would lead into the following expansion, The End Time.
Wow: Rise of the Horde.
Sylvania defeats Baine, saurgang, thrall, and any others to unite the horde chief in Mak’gora. This is a open change that everyone says she would not do. Baine refuses and tuarens reject him. Suarfang dies do to a arrow thru the eye. Thrall accepts her as true chiefdom. The night elf leave the horde along with the blood elf’s. There a rebellion’s in ranks and most blood elves and night elf’s join her.
Then she holds tournaments for each race to have a leader. Once she solidifies horde and gets rid of all the pro alliance. She finally can finish alliance without spies helping them. First thing is humans.
The champion founds out she been recruiting races from all over the world and others. She has more at her disposal than even they new of.

No I don’t know! Just, like, a big fun expac that is better designed. Dump the vast majority of what has been done for three expacs and go back to the drawing board.
Oh they will be back, I bet you on that one. Especially if we get an expansion or patch based on the Shadowlands.

Both the Horde and the Alliance party together for the next 2 years.
The entire expansion is drinking games with the Horde and Alliance competing for who can hold their drink better

Personally I think seeing a return of the Black Empire would be good for an expansion.
After all, its been hinted that we’ve only seen half of azeroth. Imagine if there is a huge continent (we’re talking kalimdor sized) on the other side of the world. And its controlled by the Black Empire.
They’re not the same as they used to be, and in fact there are good groups among them.
This would be lead to by us trying to smack nzoth down in 8.3. While we hurt him, he ultimately escapes in some form, fleeing to the remnants of the Black Empire.
World of Warcraft: The Battle for Azeroth 2.0
As you thought there wasn’t enough content already, here is an expac with no redeemable features.
- Flying removed from all zones, and ground mounts go 60% speed
- Ret pallies are now the newest FOTE (Flavor of the Expansion) with instant kills and movement speeds of 310% running speed
- All classes are purge of any healing or suriviablitiy for our new Paladin overlords
- Introducing a new race! - High Elves for the Horde
- Warmode always on: Any Alliance with WarMode, are instantly combustion into flames. And you can’t even turn it off, its on permanently.
- Introducing no new raids or dungeons, just a combination raid of Dragon Soul + Siege of Org + Highmaul + Emerald Nightmare + Uldir, available only to Mythic +20 raiders!
- Classic is remove the Battle Net / Blizzard library forever - gotta stay retail

In the horde is where we see its members submit to any madness of a leader with whom they disagree!
