I understand adding expansions would be bad, that’s what I clearly do not want. But if we look at runescape classic it’s become so popular again they’ve actually been adding content. But it still feels and is classic runescape. I feel the same could happen for classic wow.
But adding content would fly in the face of the point of the server 1. Working museum copy of functional classic wow. 2. People asking to go back to classic since it was in their opinion a better experience.
I don’t think they will ever add a compulsory expansion like TBC or something akin to Classic WoW, but it’s probable that a new WoW experience based on Classic could come to life because of Classic.
It’s also probable that TBC servers would be next, it’s the most logical path because its such a popular version of WoW like Classic.
Level 60 Karazhan & Hyjal raids.
Plenty of places to toss in level 60 dungeons.
When people hear “add content” do they immediately assume L60 content that is more powerful than Naxx
They could add new dungeon content to any point of the level spread. They could add something on a level of say, Mauradon, but requiring something like arcane resist gear and fire weapons. They could open up Gilneas (sp?) as a mid level questing zone. They could think outside of the box rather that focus on vertical additions to endgame.
That’s actually something I have seen before and it’s VERY tempting because I really do like the Classic WoW style of play.
Although as others have said these would need to be fully optional servers, not actually Classic WoW.
I don’t know if I like calling classic wow a museum… leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Makes it seem less like a real game.
I do agree with some of the other points, I wouldn’t mind them finishing old zones even. I’m pretty sure there was even a bg that never got released in vanilla.
Azshara Basin or some such. Entrances were in game but never utilized.
IIRC there was even a large area west of the forsaken starting zones that could have been used. Kara Crypt as well. A lot of spots along the coasts that had only “flavor” in vanilla that could be used. All without adfing landmass that would cause player dispersion.
But yes, vanilla+
That’s what dedicated TBC servers will be for.
It would be vastly different, as it would not be spreading the population away from Azeroth, nor would it be tacking on vertically.
This will be an interesting debate in a couple of years time. If BC is added in the future, how would it be implemented. Separate servers, or expanded Classic servers? Would we have the opportunity to move characters to it if separate? Lets face it, at some point, the lack of further progression will stall the game.
I might like to see BC servers. I don’t think I want to see BC tacked onto Vanilla. They should be different servers, leave the Classic servers capped at 60, and start people off fresh at level 60 on the BC servers. There’s no point resurrecting any content beyond WotLK anyhow… once Classic has run its course, it has to be new content.
In terms of the next expansion, Blizzard would have to decide whether to ‘reset’ and tack it onto the Classic/TBC time-frame, meaning that players start at level 60 or 70, or to tack it on after the current retail time frame, meaning players start at level 120. Either way, though, I think they should clip the current servers and put the next expansion on new servers, starting players out fresh with basic gear at the starting level for the expansion (whatever it turns out to be).
Part of BfA’s failure was due to players starting BfA with an extremely wide ILVL spread coming from Legion. Blizzard then tried, and failed miserably, to level the playing field by dynamically scaling toons based partially on level, which wound up destroying the whole leveling experience in the process. Dynamic zone scaling also destroyed the whole leveling experience. Nor did PVP work well (I tried it from the start of BfA, it was a disaster). And I felt that Blizzard was basically just bribing players to go into PVP mode with all sorts of neat talents that non-PVP players couldn’t use. It really pissed me off.
Whatever Blizzard does, they have to avoid that whole mess in the next expansion.

Maybe they’ll just make a mobile version like Runescape is.
it is simple.
when you don’t like it, stop paying.
I agree with this thought. My main concern with classic is: As a very casual player, how quickly will I feel “behind”? If the power creep is too quick, I will not have much interest in playing. What would be the point of taking all the time to level to 51 in order to enter AV only to feel like practically everyone else is 2-shotting me because they’re already in full raid gear.
Depending on the they you mean, I could get behind this, but I don’t think Blizzard should be adding the “content.”
Vanilla was, in my mind at least, a place where problems were not solved by Blizzard changing game mechanics but rather the community of players coming up with unique solutions. The way certain guilds were run, the RP community, and a thriving addon development community really added a lot to this game that often goes unnoticed and forgotten, and is almost always undervalued and underestimated just how important it was to the success of Vanilla WoW.
Consider this post here. I think that Carespanker makes a great point about what “content” is, and what makes the game “content” great. It isn’t all on Blizzard. The key is the community of players.
So, consider that perhaps Blizzard not be the place where “more content” comes from in Classic. If Classic is as successful as I hope it will be, Blizzard won’t need to make more content.
I’d like that.
Most players and when I say most 98% of the player base will never get full Naxx level gear or even close.
I don’t think you realize just how taxing that raid actually is.
Especially when some moron kills Bigglesworth.
AV was 51-59 and then L60. It ultimately was 2 brackets. And there was a ton you could do as a lower level quest-wise to help out without having to go toe to toe with relatively high level foes.
