If the Venthyr are bad...isn't' that going to effect choice?

I guess it depends on what you consider “evil” in the game.

For me, the Venthyr aren’t all bad. Some of them are, the rest (and the ones you’re aligning with if you go Venthyr) are rebelling against the bad ones.

For me, Kyrian feel the most “evil”, and I can’t stomach going with that covenant (and it seems to be best for both healing specs right now which is a bit of a conundrum for me…). I felt like they were trying to get me to “drink the punch” the whole time I was there. The entire vibe of the zone gave me the creeps. I couldn’t wait to get out of that place.

To each their own.

Spoilers:

Summary

In The Venthyr story you join the rebellion against The Sire. As it turns out The Sire is working with Sylvanas and The Jailer, giving his anima to free him.

And if you join Venthyr, you join them in restoring their original purpose of atoning the most wicked souls who could possibly be spared from The Maw.

The Venthyr are not evil. They serve the purpose of atonement for the wicked and evil. To give them a chance to save their souls for eternal damnation.

Now if you’re a psycho who believes death and eternal imprisonment is the only answer for criminals like Garrosh, you might need to look at your morality.

The Kyrian couldn’t be bothered to do something to stop the Jailer after clear cut evidence showed they were up to no good.

The necrolords fight amongst themselves in political skirmishes hoping to prove something stupid.

The night fae decide to circumvent the Arbiter and pick who lives and who dies.

ALL covenants center around a plot in a negative way.

The only viable solution is to burn everything to the ground.

i sided with sylvanas in every single quest despite knowing it was pointless and would go nowhere because i was filled with spite at the story. it will be the same thing here. they’ll be villains but it won’t matter and they’ll probably be redeemed and made good anyway

It is just the higher ups that are helping the Jailor.

Without going too further in detail, the story of the Venthyr is similar to Mechagon.

You’ll ally yourself with Denathrius’ son to kill his dad for him and fix the corruption and decadence of the place.

Well The Venthyr aren’t evil. It’s just The Sire who has lied to the people and walked away from their purpose.

Atonement is not evil. They’re not torturing bunnies. They’re torturing the most wicked souls of the cosmos to give them the chance to save their souls.

I think under the Sires leadership, the roles actually got reversed.

The good and loyal people are the ones being tortured while the Sire allows the wicked to feed on the anima.

Thanks for reminding me of that brief period after The Lorax came out where the internet was thirsting after the Onceler.

Right, which is why The Sire is a raid boss, and the Covenant is the rebellion against him.

Horde were tangentially associated with, the direct cause of, and sometimes even willingly participants in most of the evil for the entire game, but it doesn’t stop people from playing Horde.

The good news is Maldraxxus is going to be BiS for your lock.

you are playing all the storylines before you choose

You’ll get a better idea of the individual covenant stories during leveling. The animated shorts don’t give you the full picture.

They’re not bad, they’re just born of necessity.

Revendreth is sort of like purgatory… you go there to be punished, and hopefully find redemption in your discipline: the beings that carry out the acts cant be rays of bright sunshine… they have to be a little shaded to do what they do.

They “work in the dark to serve the light”

All the covenants are evil.

They sound just like communists.

Sacrificing others, for “the common good”

Torturing of any kind is evil. If you want to redeem a soul there are better ways then torturing them.

Nothing noble about it and I believe the vynthir have been altered because of what they do.

Lore-wise, aren’t kyrians basically brainwashing slavers? I may be mistaken

It takes one second to realize that Sire Denathrius is the end boss of the first raid tier and that the venthyr aren’t an evil covenant. This is just a veiled thread on the OP’s part to qq about their class not being to their liking.

It’s almost like we’re faced with a roleplay choice instead of just an optimization choice!
