Having a good tax person would fix a lot of this I would think. The write offs should be significant if done correctly. Likely paying less % of income as tax than a regular job.
The money isnāt always consistent, and the equipment can be expensive. That being said, they should at least invest in a background set up. My son is a streamer, and and he has this whole green screen thing behind him to put images and backgrounds on. The whole set up was around $100, so they should at least do that over the whole unmade bed in a dinky bedroom thing.
can confirm. 24 years old. landed a job making 70k a year which is like, close to 7x the amount of money iāve ever made in a year. Iām not rich by any means, Iām aware this is middle class, but Iām definitely better of than Iāve ever been since i started working at 15.
I bought a car⦠that is about it as far as āfrivolousā spending goes, and thatās debatably not frivolous because I need it to get to work every day. Other than that, just pay bills. The rest of the money goes to stuff for my dog or stuff for my girlfriend.
My dad was all excited, you can buy a new gaming computer, you can buy a this, you can buy a that, youāre finally making real money! But i have no desire to spend it lol. Dunno what I would even spend it on other than vacations and travel.
With him thatās the case. Heās happy with his life just as it is and sees no reason to change anything. Personally I better like the ones who present themselves as-is, no pretense, what you see is who they are.
All I can say is if I made the kind of money some streamers allegedly make, Iād live in a studio apartment too. Less money spent on an extravagant home is more money spent on actual things such as food and entertainment
Games or OnlyAircirculationdevices? Cuz Iāve heard rumours from teachers that some kids just plan to stream adult content as their career once they hit 18.
Not really, only girls can do that (selling softcore content on OnlyFans, instagram, etc)
Having a lifeplan of being a game streamer right away @ 18 is risky because itās so saturated with competition, and most streamers donāt even make good money (most guys still work a day-job/canāt survive on the stream income alone). Safest thing to do is still have a steady source of income, while streaming on the side
If the streaming blows up/goes ābigā? Great. If not? Then at least thereās still a regular income coming in from your regular job
I donāt know where in Texas you live, but ever since California decided to commit economic suicide rent prices in Texas have skyrocketed.
Used to be able to get a cheap studio apartment around here for 300 - 600 a month depending on whether you wanted a ratās nest or a livable place.
Now theyāre going for 1200 a month minimum for the ratās nests.
Itās a gig job. Income varies. Housing is incredibly expensive and currently a bad investment. Very few of them make enough money to comfortably invest in a studio. There is no job security, once a streamerās audience base and popularity wanes, their income plummets and back to square 3-2-1. Almost all streamers will end up fading into obscurity, even Asmongold.
Itās probably why a lot donāt over-invest. They realize, wisely, that their cash cow is only a temporary gig.
Youāre rich and became a millionaire playing video games or other misc stupid activities.
You donāt have to clean your damn room.
Something similar happened here in Colorado. There used to be plenty of 1BR or studio apartments available in the $500-$600/month range. As recently as 2008 there was still $525/month rents for a basic/starter studio (first-hand observation since I was already here)
At some point - either due to weed, liberals spreading here, or both - those same exact apartments exploded in price and now theyāre like $1400-$1600/month lol⦠so cost of living literally went up 250-300%
People that post in these threads are so mind-blowingly clueless on streaming.
You can hire a maid, but you canāt live like a squatter. Insects, rodents, etc. For Asmongold and other itās just as likely props to seem relatable to his audience.
edit: most squatters probably are cleaner then some of these streamers. I apologize to all squatters, everywhere.
I promise you that they would clean if they saw a rat. Otherwise, mind your own.
This post is incredibly bizarre, people actually arguing over how much money people earn as an entertainer. The original poster making rude comments over how someone chooses to live their lives.
However, I think that salary transparency is a good thing, especially within technology. I am a technical program manager with a background as a devops/platform engineer. My most recent role was the equivalent of an L7. Compensation package - base $287,000, bonus $86,000, RSU $373,000.
So what? Just like entertainers income, so what?
Yup, they see the big/shiny āmega streamerā like Asmongold on the front-page of twitch basking in their hundreds of thousands/millions, and assume āeveryā streamer has got it made. Meanwhile, for every 1 Asmongold thereās probably 1000 ābarely scraping byā poverty-tier streamers who can literally earn more money working at McDonalds than being a full-time streamer
Like anything in life there is a spectrum. Some make a little, others make a lot.
You also have to look where they live.
There are lots of insane condos downtown that go for over 2 million. They are not huge. Location location location.
Then lastly you have to remember that streamers want to identify with their audience. A bedroom is relatable and people are willing to give money to people if they look like they are not swimming in it.
Thatās how it is world wide. Iāve been in the same apartment since 2006. Itās now 4x the cost since then. Property taxes did go up but itās mostly comes down to houses become unaffordable. More people need to rent so landlords can just bump up prices when demand is high.
Meanwhile Amouranth made millions streaming in a bikini in a kiddie pool in her living room. And while I donāt respect her at all for that, I do respect that she used that money to buy actual businesses to keep an income flow when her looks fade.
Yeah let them see the video of Amouranth crying, that streamer life isnāt all riches and rainbows. Itās a pipeline to sex work, selling your soul etc.
