If Runescape Dragonwilds is a success can we expect a WoW based copycat?

Blizzard does love to make their copycat style games, I would almost imagine a Diablo or WoW spinoff in that style, especially since they have the code base for a survival game.

Blizzard refines genres.

Just because games in the same genre share traits common to that genre doesn’t mean every game in the same genre is a copycat.

Blizzard tried and failed at creating a survival game so do not expect much from them.

Blizzard has been having issues with creating new and innovative products. If you look at the last several years of Blizz, you will see nothing but reforged, remastered etc.

Yeah, given the popularity of survival games and the overwhelming number of them that have been released over the last decade or so…unless it was a direct clone, it would be hard to give Runescape or any specific game credit.

I read that you chop down trees in the Runecape Dragonwilds…its obviously a Minecraft copycat (/s, lol)

Reading way too much into what was being said is an amazing trait that WoW players have. The ability to be aggrieved by things that are pretty common place is incredible. Obviously copycat was not meant to imply a direct one for one copy.

An even more amazing trait is shifting the blame because you can’t stand that folks called out your exceedingly poor word usage. You aren’t asking “Is Blizzard making a survival game” at which point we can actually answer it with a “No, they had something in development but that’s been abandoned as far as we know.”

You asked “If X game is a success, will Blizzard copy their game?”
The answer to that is… no.

Just own up to your L and move on. Don’t try to blame others for your word usage.

There are no W and L, sorry you think life is some sort of binary game that we win depending on what you choose to believe. Move on.

Blizzard doesn’t exist anymore, so they can’t really do anything.

I think its more they are playing to their market. Things like Season of Discovery and Hardmode seem to have been pretty popular, as have Plunderstorm and the Remix. Why should they spend gazillions on a making a new game which has no proven track record and is a risk when they can build on what they already know works?

I wouldn’t be surprised to see things like a separate spinoff Plunderstorm type game or some form of minimalist WoW version for console, things they know how to rework and remake.

Survival games are not something they have that much experience at and I suspect in these times they want to stick to what they know works.

is dragonwilds worth getting? i love runescape lol.
:cherries:

Fine point… but, according to some Blizzard devs they do indeed rip off ideas from other IP’s that have proven success rates or that they simply like quite a bit.

There’s nothing wrong with this… there are really no original ideas at this point, so asking Blizzard to have an original concept, or anyone else for that matter, is kind of next to impossible.

You can’t claim someone read way too much into something being said by taking your words at face value.

I think you’re probably just reading too much in to their statement.

Try only reading half of it

Sure can. Especially when the question is posed as a WoW inspired copycat clearly indicating it wouldn’t be a direct 1:1 clone. Copycat just means to copying ideas not wholesale stealing.

But if I imply anything, the response is “dont put words in my mouth”

So now, I only take a person’s words at face value.

Then you know what the word copycat means, it doesn’t mean wholesale ip theft. So, implying anything beyond that is pretty insane. Up to you though and anyone else who really feels like they don’t want to admit what Blizzard has always been.

Ok though.

But the fun thing is I didnt see anyone say blizzard would do a 1:1 clone of Runescape Dragonnwilds.

Dont know what this has to do with anything

You might want to reread what was written, or answer the initial question. Your choice.

Nothing here says Blizzard would do a direct one for one copy.

It says that all video game developers take traits from other games. Blizzard included.

You think Runscape Dragonwilds isnt a copy cat of something else?

So I dont know what your point is. Why would Runescape Dragonwilds specifically make Blizzard want to make a survival game?

You know exactly what those previous people were implying. Goodbye.
