Only Blizz would think it makes more sense to nerf something people are enjoying (Delves) to force them to do something they don’t enjoy (Mythics)

What are they nerfing in delves?
He said something in an interview about lowering the ilvl of Delve gear because people weren’t doing Mythics
Allegedly, Delve gear will not push past 610 and if you want to progress higher, you got mythics. There’s also rumors about nerfing the lower drops to encourage more people to follow the Mythic track instead of being “forced” to run delves to get geared for mythics.
I’ve seen that is the way people are discussing it here. But it doesn’t actually seem like it. He said they don’t want to give delves beyond Hero level gear.
If he said different in another interview though, please share.
No he did not.
He said and I quote “We are happy with solo players / casuals getting Hero track gear but we are hesitant to give anything higher as it would disincentivize player from doing M+”
He then went on to say they were not happy with the difficulty and reward scaling of M+ 7 and below and in season 2 they would adjust the scaling of M+ for a smoother transition up the ladder.
I honestly don’t know what is so hard to understand, the interview was days ago but this same rumor keeps going around over and over.
Exactly!!
Thank you.
…so they’re imposing their idea of elitism through M+, instead of awarding stuff through Delves.
Gotcha. Ion is a jerk.
Well I mean, we don’t really need anything beyond Hero track gear if our endgame is Delves.
Delves should be buffed to be an appreciable challenge, or their reward lowered to match the lack of difficulty. Rewards parity is not directly related to M+ but to all PvE content.
Where did he say they are nerfing delves? Listening to the interview, he acknowledges that people who gear up through delves and go straight into m+ try to start too high for their dungeon knowledge/skill set. But then mentioned they are looking to make lower keys more rewarding, or just overall better experience.
He also said earlier in the interview, the goal of delves was to give solo players hero track gear across the board.
But I don’t recall any time where he said the only solution to making mythic+ easier/better was to nerf delves. Did I miss it somewhere?
I mean people don’t have to play the game to do M + either but Ion wants to screw with the gearing curve that’s his axe to grind.
I don’t disagree that it is a silly attitude to have regarding content. But the main point is that delve rewards won’t be getting worse. So that’s good.
Like i say though, it is silly. For me group content is disincentivised by its nature of being group content. In lieu of greater rewards from delves I’m not going to move on to m+. I’m going to stop gearing. Which isn’t a massive problem in and of itself. It’s still great gear, and an avenue of solo progression I never had before. But it is irksome the way they are pushing the idea that delves are less legitimate a form of endgame.
So if I own a bakery and I sell cakes… I should make the good cakes taste worse so that people will pick the bad tasting ones more often.
Is that right?
It’s more that, if you want to use Delves as a stepping stone, the whole system as -is doesn’t work. You can get to 613 easy just doing Delves, up to 619 if you really grind a ton of them.
At 619, you’re not only more or less done with needing Hero track gear, you’re also basically done with Runed Crests as well.
Meaning you would be incintived to start Mythics at +7 or 8, because anything lower than that isn’t giving you anything you need anymore.
And starting Mythics at +8 - i.e. the point where things start to one-shot you - is never going to be a smooth on-boarding process.
I would agree with this, if mythic was also capped, and yo progress higher, you had to do Raids, if its not already.
I would be more ok with the increase of time to increase the reward, if increasing difficulty is not possible.
If you are expending much time on a delve - same time you would do like 5~10 m+, seems like a fair trade, but i don’t think it would be a popular idea
Extra time isn’t really needed. A slow but trivial task isn’t harder than a quick and trivial task. It’s truly just a matter of difficulty, which T8 delves do not possess in the slightest.
I’d hardly call it easy. The delves themselves only drop champion gear. You only get one guaranteed hero piece of gear through the vault per week, and a chance at others if you get those treasure maps.
Unless you meant to write 603 rather than 613. Even then, four per day if you have the keys, random gear slot. Still not exactly reliable.
I mean yeah. Harder content = better reward.
I do think they could make the better rewards not be player power and people would still seek the content out though.
That’s kind of always going to be a thing unless all gear gets split like PvP is, which apparently nobody wants. It’s in no way something unique to delves.
My guild is currently encountering it when we decide to run M+ and our heroic raid geared players want to join, but never did M+ or Delves. You just do the lower keys to learn mechanics/get score, that’s not really an issue.
Similarly, I’ve heard people talk about people inviting high IO people to raids who clearly weren’t prepared for the bosses they joined for.
