Should I slow them so they cant join team fights? I can pretty much kidnap a healer as a WW this way, but I’m not sure if its an effective strategy or if I should just slow them and rotate in and try to score a kill before they get there.
Speaking as a healer who pugs BG’s, few things are as frustrating as not being able to rejoin my team after resurrecting at the GY.
I’ve stopped a healer from getting back to the fight a few times, but it’s never seemed like a good use of my time. I’ll throw a roots at them to slow them down but I don’t stay there with them.
generally yeah, same goes for rotating to an enemy graveyard to stall their respawn instead of sticking around a fight that you aren’t pivotal in being apart of.
It really depends on the nature of the fight they are headed to and the class they are, sometimes you can poke into the fight and use teleport to keep heading to the outskirt and para/sweep/rop them to reset their “rotation”. If you let them in the fight but keep resetting their presence they’ll be more inclined to use cooldowns, opposed to just keeping them out and hopefully winning the fight.
Healer is just an obvious candidate for this behaviour, its worth doing for other targets as well, especially if you can stall >1 person at a time, but if for example you notice X player is carrying their teamfights, sometimes tracking them the entire match and keeping them out of team fights can be worth it.
Yes. You stick to them like glue and make them regret going heals. Hell, I’ve waited at GYs looking for enemy healers.
Playing as DPS, I usually feel that it’s worth it to hold a healer away from where they want to be for as long as possible in that situation.
My rationale is that if I’m one of eight damage dealers on my team, and they’re one of two healers on their team, that trade works out better for my team than for theirs.
In some situations (based on the match state and the objectives/nodes/score/etc) it’s better to just play the flags, but harassing a healer, keeping them away from their teammates, and forcing them to burn cooldowns is usually worthwhile.
If you can prevent a healer from
Getting to a larger battle you are single handedly winning the game. There’s nothing more frustrating than being crippled slowed stunned trying to get to your teammates.
Trading a dps for a healer is a great deal, I go out of my way to terrorize healers every chance I get.
I absolutely do this. I normally don’t fight on the roads, but I figure a group not able to stay alive is worth more than whatever DPS I can dish out.
You’re getting Stunned, Scattered, Frozen, Tarred, Stunned and Chimera’d for good measure before you’re getting anywhere close if I can help it.
It depends on your potential worth versus theirs. If you grabbing a healer makes them lose a fight, node, get a cap, etc, then it’s worth. If you being absent from somewhere is punished it may not be worth.
Kind of hard to eyeball if it’s worth.
This. If you’re kidnapping a healer who’s terrible at healing, is it really worth it?
Yeah, like sometimes taking a person out of the game auto wins it or throws it. Just depends on a lot of things. In general I’d say numbers advantage is usually worth, though. Like on Blood if I grab a disc and their warrior, ret or windwalker spends 4 minutes trying to save them so my team just burns their map down.
Healer denial is better than healer death.
One thing I will throw out:
As someone who heals a ton of BGs… I love this. It’s more fun to heal myself than a bunch of weirdos who can’t kill anyone anyways.
And you know what else??
It’s never just 1 DPS. Ever. If I can live more than 30 seconds, another DPS on your team will see. They, being wonderful teammates and team players, will come to assist you with “slowing” this wicked, evil healer. You popped your CDs, now they pop their CDs, so they’re staggered and I can often handle it.
So I’m still alive, 60 seconds later, randomly running away from any relevant base because when I die, I’ll respawn close. When you kill me (eventually) you’ll have to run back.
But with just 2? I don’t know. Most 2 random players can’t 2v1 a healer with staggered cooldowns.
So then a 3rd person joins. Sometimes a 4th.
If they keep staggering in, if I manage to time the stun DRs okay?
I can keep it up for awhile.
1 healer for 2-4 DPS being out of the fight for 2-3 minutes?
I’m fine with it. Come say hello if you ever see me in a BG.
(EDIT! I’m not saying it’s a bad idea. I think it’s probably a net win, if it’s truly 1v1. I’m just saying a good healer can turn this into a huge mistake if they can bait out enough players and live long enough)
Depends on what’s going on. If they’re trying to get back to an FC then yes absolutely slow them down so O can finish off the FC in the meantime.
Can also cc them in maps like ToK / ab / eots and delay them reaching nodes / spinning nodes
If they’re just grouping and nothing substantial playwise can be made off it then just ignore.
i just find it bizarre gameplay that killing people isnt as effective of a strat
It’s useful or not depending on how it’s done. One Dk holding someone hostage that’s a healer, fantastic. Someone knocking a healer into the abyss and killing them with basically no damage done and no time wasted, fantastic, another d p s that’s just good at holding you still or silencing you tremendous. more people spending half their match fighting you, that’s a waste of their time.
Agree, but it’s because healers are overtuned and too impactful in a fight and on the overall outcome. Whenever I feel like I’m playing with healers who actually heal me and the team the game goes well; otherwise it doesn’t… lol
You should spend more time healing.
Ever lose a BG where literally no one ever died within your range?
Or where you go BS with 12 of your teammates against 8 of the enemy and watch every one of those 8 do way, way more damage while you sit there, keeping them all alive while they utterly fail to do anything until you run out of mana?
Healers are very impactful when teams are generally equal.
But the best healer in the world can’t make a bunch of very bad DPS win a BG.
Rez timers are low, mounts are fast, output is high.
