I’m really curious what you’re talking about, because this isn’t a thing in FFXIV.
Perhaps you are confusing different spells as “ranks” of the same spell? For example, BLM has Fire I, Fire II, Fire III, and Fire IV, but they are not different ranks of the same spell. They are completely different spells with their own different places in the rotation.
[Edit] I see you mentioned you played healer. You don’t need to keep different ranks of Stone/etc on your bar (and in fact it’s impossible). It will automatically switch to the correct level rank when a dungeon scales you down.
Maybe I just assumed it wasn’t fixed then, I pre did it before doing a roulette for the first time in like 3 years. When I last played it was seriously a turn off to me. Haven’t played my WM in some time as when I came back I stuck to my scholar and have shifted into astro for the time being and it was honestly partly due to not wanting to suffer that again, so maybe I’ll pick up my WM more knowing that’s no longer a thing.
Good news then! When you get the first rank of Stone, just place it wherever you want on your bar, and it will upgrade automatically as you level and downgrade automatically when you level sync.
There’s arguments for and against condensing heals.
Some people like Cure I around because it’s quick and can save a life. But a lot of people see it as a trap for new players, specially with things like freecure or the other healer equivalent.
We’ll see what they do in EW, they like to do button squishes.
I would love to see a Mythic + format in FF14, but the Devs and Yoshi P for FF14 don’t really like people rushing through their dungeons. This is why you may see in the newer dungeons walls that stop you from progressing and pulling too many mobs. They put them in to slow people down so people aren’t making big massive pulls to go too fast in a dungeon. Unlike WoW’s dungeons which is full streamline dungeon, FF14’s dungeons instanced within a instance. In some dungeons, you have to go through a small loading screen to go to the next area in the dungeon. If they made a Mythic +, they would have to take that and other stuff like if someone can’t load fast enough like others or someone gets disconnected while going to the next area into account for developing it. It can cause issues.
I wouldn’t mind having more bloat if they let me do what I wanna do in terms of binds. I’ve grown accustom to binding stuff to my mouse wheel like forward scroll, backward scroll then Shift modifier forward back and I’ve been unable to do that in FF compared to wow so atm I deff don’t like having extra bloat because of the key binds being limited causes me to have less go to keys to press.
Normally I’d use my mmo mouse but I like having player toggles bound to it with things like nearest enemy etc for easy targeting as the mouse clicking targeting feels weird to me for some reason in that game. Might just be me being more use to wow but it feels stiff if you get what I mean when you target something via mouse.
Most of my binding issues stem from me being weird about how I’ve played since I got started with fps games in the late 90’s. I use arrow keys and the numpad for my left hand and right on my mouse like any righty would. SO my layout is hella weird.
It’s pretty much the standard expectation for people to do multiple pulls and rush things in 50/60/70/80 content (leveling dungeons don’t apply, really).
While you are correct that some dungeons prevent bigger pulls, people will still pull as much as they can. It’s very unusual to run into a tank pulling 1 group at a time in content like this, but it does happen on occasion.
Don’t misunderstand me though, it’s not the same as Mythic+ rushing, I just mean to say that since doing big pulls is a common practice for FFXIV dungeons, it’s something they would take naturally to. As for whether Mythic+ would work well on FFXIV, that I have no idea about. It was just theoretical thinking.
I’ll just detail the gear power acquisition for ffxiv a little.
Dungeons - armor/accessory items, appearance theme unique to the dungeon. (ilvl 505)
Crafted Gear - weapon/armor/accessory. these are not easy to craft and requires good crafter ilvl and stats (ilvl 510, can be upgraded to 520 with “valor” points)
8-man Trials(extreme) boss fight - weapon/mount (ilvl 525) *this is heroic difficulty
8-man Raids(savage) boss fight - drops tokens for weapons/armor/accessory (ilvl 530) *this is mythic difficulty
“conquest” point gear - weapons/armor/accessory (ilvl 520, can be upgraded to 530 with tokens received from raids)
1 dungeon, 1 set of crafted tgear, 1-2 trials boss fights and 4 Raid boss fights is the content cycle. all equipment have unique appearances and not reskins
usually what happens is Savage players would buy crafted gear to start on their raiding.
my take, there is really no point in M+ for FFXIV. Because it just undermines the equipment created and obtained through crafting and raiding. People only do dungeons to gain “valor” and “conquest” points which are called tomestones.
and when people are done, they just unsub and take a break. it’s normal
The only thing I’ve found M+ to bring is toxicity and rage quitting. Please keep it here where toxic reigns supreme and keep it out of a clean community.
Lol, Blizzards is trying its hardest to force esports on the community. Its what ruined Overwatch, its what ruined Heartstone, its what ruined WoW and its why HotS exists.
Well if that happens good luck getting your key wasted because someone joined your run who has no idea what he is doing and you could not tell because things like Raider Io are banned in FFXIV.
Man am I glad. It would suck getting into a group for content that has a minimum ilvl requirement of “480” (hypothetical) and the leader kicking people unless they’re 580.
Good news! Healers are absolutely not expected to be simple healbots in FFXIV. In fact, even in medium difficulty content, if you aren’t casting DPS spells, you are going to be called out and perhaps even removed. EVERYONE is expected to be making use of every GCD short of having to reposition because of a mechanic.
If you got a tank whose pulling like a timid baby, you can ask them to go faster or just resign yourself to seeing if you can out damage them while still keeping the group topped off.
Also while I admit I do not know healers at an deep level, I think it is safe and fair to say that any given healer spec plays significantly harder than any WoW healer does too. I know that for tanks and DPS, even the easiest FFXIV spec is harder than the hardest WoW spec at max level once you have your full toolkit. A large reason for that is because you don’t have crutch addons like DBM and weakauras half playing the game for you.
I see no one mentioning this but Yoshi P did comment on the idea of having an ‘M+’ or ‘Savage’ dungeons.
He’s against it since he doesn’t like having content that puts pressure on everyone and one death screwing the pooch for the rest of the party. He’d rather make harder, larger-scale content intended for many people so that there’s room for error instead of burning everyone out because of a mistake or two.
M+ in WoW at the moment has this issue where people kind of expect you to be some kind of genius when it comes to routing, DPS, CD management, etc. Personal DPS being a deciding factor in most runs afaik.
Savage raiding is a scripted boss fight that’s more trial and error while benefitting from Raid DPS than just everyone sweating on their keyboards to be top parser (though a lot of people do the latter anyway for their own reasons.)
Healers in WoW have it worse than in XIV, Healer DPS in XIV is a 1-2 button rotations while they wait for the tank to have taken a significant chunk of damage before reacting. Some people play chicken with the health bars just to squeeze the tank before they do something about it.
Healers in WoW is more active healing while tossing out some DPS here and there. Some specs needs to do damage to heal which is a playstyle I dig, but on principal I can’t really support this game without seeing actual improvement in the content I like.
Mythic+ would be be kind of neat in FF but they would never do it. As someone that ran ACT(dps meter) in FF most of the players are not very good. Most of the time this isn’t an issue and you can clear just about everything while lvling. Even if you run into problems a quick chat and try again will solve it.
The issue is the really bad ones that are so bad it has to be on purpose.
Like:
Healers that claim to be “pure healers” and refuse to dps during downtime but still let people die to unavoidable dmg
Healers that mash glare/broil/malefic like it is the only button they have
Dps that dont use aoes at all
“Ice only” Black mages
Red mages that hard cast veraero/verthunder
Blackmages that spam fire 3
Tanks that dont use cds (DRK never using The Blackest Night)
NINs that dont use muradas
BRDs that dont sing
I honestly could go on but you get the idea. Watching someone at lvl 77/80 break combos with Throwing Knife while in melee range while the tank has 9 mobs pulled gets old pretty fast.
