LFR? it’s kind of an bad-behavior thunderdome deathmatch of who can troll each other the hardest and then 5-10 other people saying “can we just finish please?”
be more honest man,
everyone knows LFR difficulty is about weird people interactions which people that actually just want to get it done are effectively being forced to endure
Also simplicity. Not systems and currencies and this and that and the other thing. Just leveling, dungeons and gear. Old skill trees. Old version of Azeroth pre-Cata. Lots of things.
Not everyone is looking at all games exclusively from the perspective of “what is the difficulty of this game”?
Why am i enjoying classic when i have two full weeks of SL under my belt but find myself logging more into levelling my undead warlock in classic?
First it was the time gates, i had really nothing to do with progressing the campaign, no side quests, LFG is a disaster due to the poorly designed lego drop system…so whatever im paying bliz $15 a month and they cut my content in SL short this week why not?
Within 30 min of playing classic…i feel like im playing a vast RPG and always progressing in gear and story…its fun. Ive found a guild, a guild that chats, not because i was looking but because i bumped into someone else levelling and we needed help…
I haven had a real wow guild since maybe my brief time in cata…i cant remember the last time in retail i made a friend, usually its silent party invites then leave group when thing is done maybe a TY in /say maybe not. The end.
Ok so that hooked me, then it was the loot and gear. I get upgrades playing! useful gear is everwhere. I get to sell the other useful greens in the AH and i make gold. I dont think ive ever sold any item in the wow AH again since maybe cata.
Alright, so the tedious travel and questing for some reason feels awesome and engaging, and no time gating but we all know classics endgame blows right?
Wait raid content i can do without a study guide 3 add ons and hours of how to videos consumed??? WTF is this? Yeah id be interested.
Ok so the combat is kinda clunky. There are no QOL systems. Theres no tranmogs so its clown suit gear again.
I might almost thank SL for pushing me here, im really enjoying it, i feel like its a real MMORPG not some live service with tons of mobile games like retail. Id thank SL if i didnt waste $60 on it.
In Classic I can target something, and then go do it. With the exception of the HWL grind if I get sick, lose interest, or decide to take a break to enjoy Shadowlands, then all my gear and achievements and rep are still exactly as I left them. The world still exists.
In retail they annihilate everything each raid tier, so if you take 3 months off you have to start from scratch. All your existing gear is worthless.
Many of us most fondly remember TBC or Wrath. Work I did in classic still mattered. Trade skills still mattered. Old materials still mattered. I’m just not into wiping the slate clean as frequently as they do, so I spend the bulk of my time in classic.
I picked up Shadowlands when I absolutely thought I wouldn’t, because they sold me on a gearing system similar to what TBC used. Getting and upgrading honor gear is awesome. I can, just like in classic, mostly do BGs and be pretty successful.
I’m already hitting the edge of what I like in retail. I ran a series of m0 as a resto druid (my TBC main), and the number of actions required a minute is insane. Everyone is always taking damage. I am always casting, and always moving. My wrists hate me.
In classic you find a position, and except for maybe 2-3 times in a boss fight you can turret as a caster or hunter. I think a lot of us like that style of gameplay, and wanted something slightly more advanced… just not blast template swirlies following me constantly on every fight, and if I pause to cast a regrowth I’ll be stunned / feared / suffer massive damage.
It just don’t enjoy that frenetic playstyle, and I like a community. I have both in classic, and love BGs and farming.
Youll see a lot of the people here who do love classic are pretty passionate about the game. Most the people who hate classic and love retail just leave a “retail is better” type response with nothing behind it…or just brag about difficulty like it really matters.
Well I don’t know why you assume it has anything to do with difficulty but even if it did difficulty is subjective seems like a poor conclusion. The best way to play wow is both. Raid log for buffs on classic then play SL while your waiting to raid naxx win/win baby.
Yeah this is the thing that classic has over retail. There’s more of a social aspect to the game outside of guilds than in retail. Classic is a solved game but this doesn’t mean it can’t be enjoyable or fun to someone.
The people trying to relive vanilla by being the “raid leaders” they weren’t at the time and taking decade old raids seriously are pathetic though
And people constantly give many reasons why they prefer retail. Just look at this thread.
For some it does.
Classic players seem unable to understand that Retail is still a MMORPG, and that many people like things they don’t.
If you like Classic. Go enjoy it.
But the attacks on retail (which is what this thread is) creates a division in the playerbase. It causes a defensive reply that encourages people to attack classic. And yes, this goes both ways.
But I see Classic players up and down this thread, basically saying others enjoy games wrong.
Community is a huge factor for some people, classic is more toxic but the community is more tight knit than retail is. Retail has gained a pretty bad “anyone / anything is disposable, and replaceable at a moments notice.” Mentality.
RS is another game that has the same mirrored reflection. Except their “classic” actually deviated into it’s own style while keeping the same feel, while increasing difficulty.
The thing I chuckle about when people talk about the great Classic community, but bemoan the retail community is how one sided their version of community is.
When they talk about community, they talk about others initiating the contact with them. They never talk about creating community. They never talk about doing things to create community.
Don’t know why you are asking this on the GD forums. This forum is inhabited by some of the most toxic hates of Classic. Just scroll up at the nonsense people spew on Classic. The bottom line is, Classic and retail are totally different games. I don’t get why people get so upset that players are enjoying the older version of the game?
@Askton I didn’t realize you were back from your forum vacation?
No, it’s not that people don’t create community interaction in retail, plenty of people do. But there’s zero reprocussion to terrible social behavior now with the ease of grouping, lockouts, and other features. I can easily jump away from a M+ or Normal - Heroic raid if it’s not going my way or it’s just a failure.
Back in the day, it was either figure the problem out, or you lost your lockout for the week. Today? I can just tell someone “Lol find a new tank, and jump to another group.” There’s plenty of interaction on retail, and people always create community events, pugs, and other stuff. No one is saying retail doesn’t have a community. Retail just lacks any sort of patience imo, and cohesive server communities that most servers have lost.
As long as I’m a good player I can be toxic, drop groups, and berate people all day without ever hearing about it again. Because I have 100+ other groups I can jump to.
In classic, yeah I’m going to get blacklisted and dunked on fast.
