Regardless their statement is moot, I’ve yet to see anyone say that they specifically want Midnight PvE/PvP/or any kind of quest with a reward outside of housing and decor. So when someone complains that it’s going to be garrison 2.0 they don’t want quest, its like so you don’t want decor. Should they go ahead and remove the current quest in the neighborhood too.
I was specifically responding to the part about people referencing Garrisons. That establishes it as part of the long running debates. So, I was adding to it. And in that post you did not make a distinction between crafting stations and decor only.
Also, not to put to fine a point on it, the OP literally ask for fully functional crafting stations. Including work orders. So, when you come in and talk about the push back against crafting station in the thread asking for fully functional crafting stations, you have to realize you are putting yourself clearly on the side of fully functional crafting stations.
Okay, let’s think about it for a minute.
Not everyone reads all the patch notes. In fact, most do not. They login, see crafting stations on a vendor, in their inventory, etc. They buy them and place them thinking they are regular crafting tables. Then they try to craft and run into the limitation. How do you think that player will react to that? They are going to be annoyed and/or assume a bug. There is not a clear way communicate the limitation in game. Especially as players would have to buy and place them to see.
That is the problem with any solution for limiting the advantage of crafting tables in housing.
So, again. The FAR better solution to your personal complaint would just be to remove the crafting table requirement on decor. Players are not buying anything, not placing anything, not going in with incorrect assumptions, etc.
Then, to be frank, you have not been paying attention. There have been a lot of requests for power progression in housing. They are typically in the ‘give me a reason to use housing’ kind of threads. But you see them pop up in random threads around as well. Most often it is a request for a garden/farm/mine type thing they can get profession mats (herbs and ore).
Well, let’s be fair here. The OP started by saying:
So, anyone making that comparison to requests from or related to requests from the OP are justified in that comparison.
Honestly, I can see the argument for that.
For me, that quest is right on the line. It doesn’t require you to have or maintain a house. So, there isn’t really pressure for people to jump into housing for non-housing people. IMO, they have not quite crossed the line. But they are standing on it.
I think you are overthinking this. It’s not that serious.
No they don’t. To you, maybe. Because you choose to look at it that way.
My husband fiddled around with housing when it first launched. Got bored and has not touched it since. I even asked him that if they allowed crafting in the house or made it garrison-like-ish would he use his house. He flat out told me no. It doesn’t interest him. And there are many more out there like him.
Let’s stop with the bologna.
If I want to make a crafting room, with fully functional work benches, and have a garden that I can farm herbs…it should be an option. What I do with my house and how much others interact with theirs has no bearing on how you interact with your house. As a matter of fact, you don’t even need to have one. No one does. It’s optional.
I’m so tired of this argument…it’ll make people feel forced to do their houses. Just stop it.
I would absolutely love my garrison to be fully customizable and if I could have that with my house, I’d be even happier.
And apologize for laying down the hammer on you, but what I quoted struck me. It’s a tired and contrived argument that has no basis in reality. How do I know? Because I know that mythics exist. I know that if I want great gear, I do mythic’s. I don’t. I don’t feel forced, either. I choose not to…the same thing goes for housing.
Housing doesn’t need “saving” lmao. Stop being dramatic. It’s been fully out for 2 months and yalls attention spans are the size/length of a goldfish.
Making housing into garrisons 2.0 is not the play.
This is literally what they, and most people outside of a few forum people, DON’T want.
With the way your replies have gone, it’s obvious this was just a bait post to attack people.
Just report it and move on.
I would LOVE to have a room just for house decor crafting tables in my house. I am smart enough to know that I would have to go to Silvermoon if I want to make potions or enchantments or jewels or inscriptions or whatever. I would just love to have a way to make decor for my house in/at my house.
Why does it concern you so much what someone else does with their play time?
The same could be said regarding having to go back to the city to craft decor.
Cool, for 1 person. That does not disprove anything. If it confers an advantage some players are going to feel like they have to engage. And that is bad for everyone. Players who don’t want to do housing will feel the need. And it will result in more empty houses. One person not feeling that way is not everyone.
Right now it is. Once it starts conferring advantages it stops being just an optional side thing.
Thing is, for a lot of people M+ IS something they feel they have to do. Lots of players do M+ because the gear reward helps them progress in raids. In fact, if you are trying to do progression raiding and you are not running M+ you are at a significant disadvantage. So people run them.
Ironically you used an example of content having rewards that DO pressure people to engage as proof people wont feel pressured to do something for rewards.
Any reasonable person should be able to put it together that adding value/rewards/resources is going to get people who would not otherwise engage to engage just for the rewards. But, if you want more proof that it is not a “contrived argument” just look around this forum. There are multiple threads where people say housing should have rewards to motivated people to do housing.
SO, sorry to ‘lay down the hammer,’ but you are blatantly wrong. Giving advantage will obviously encourages some players to engage who are not interested in housing. And that is what we want to avoid, because it is bad for everyone.
It is not about what someone else does with their play time. It is about the knock on effects.
Adding rewards and/or advantages for outside of housing to housing WILL encourage people not interested in housing to engage with it. Which leads to:
- Players who feel forced to engage being frustrated.
- More barren housing.
A loss for everkyone.
Hint: It would have been instanced in vanilla too.
Its a portal with your own personal button.
No easy way?
Press H. View house. Done.
Right click a portrait. View house. Done.
In the near future as per the look ahead to housing post:
A Look Ahead at Housing in Midnight — World of Warcraft — Blizzard News
I BEG. You people need to be more informed before yall just yap on posts like this day in and day out. It’s really getting annoying having to continually link a post from before the expansion was even out because yall seem to only be interested in complaining about the game and not actually playing it or being informed.
I’m beginning to lose hope in even trying to keep yall informed because it doesnt seem like nearly any of you want to do anything other than either claim blizzard isn’t saying or doing anything for you, or being a victim.
Why is it suddenly a problem to have a central portal room in the main two cities + whatever main hub for the expansion exists? It’s never been a problem but suddenly because yall cant just press H (or even the button on your action bar) its suddenly a game breaking big deal?
It really isn’t, from people who actually played during that time.
Considering that is the main reason people are even in cities, apart from hittable training dummies (both of which people want moved not just in the neighborhood but their personal house) yes, it pretty much would. Just like it did the first time. Especially now that we have an ah mount, a transmog mount (and people want both of these too), and plenty of bank toys (of which people ALSO want).
Like at that point where does it even end? Why have a game at all? Just play menu simulator outside your house.
That’s debatable.
…like what?
Prey is finite. There will come a time where you are completely done with it. Personally, right now, I’ve been done for weeks. There are two hard busts that I dont have yet because I was focusing on random nightmare hunts to get all of them done, but thats i, and this week everyone who has bothered is hitting level 10, which gives you a personalized hunt.
Meaning for the next 2 weeks I go to him one time, get the busts, and Im entirely done.
All pvp content is instanced.
All dungeons have a portal
You can get to all three raids in under 3 minutes (unless your pc is garbage with loading screens) although I doubt a lot of people advocating to have everything in their house would travel there, they’d likely just beg for a summon in raid chat, and thats if they even raid.
Dailies existed in WoD
Currencies existed in WoD
M+ didnt exist..but its predecessor Challenge Modes did
Sure Delves didn’t exist, but they didnt exist prior to TWW, and in TWW you could get a toy that just straight up took you to a delve along with K’aresh having portals straight to every delve so you didnt even need to go to dornogal in S3.
Crafting existed, and you did all of it in the garrison.
gathering existed, and you did all of it in the garrison.
Mission tables started here, and you did all gold farming from the mission table.
Auction house and the bank existed, and they were both in the garrion.
The Great Vault didn’t exist, so there was no reason to go to the city.
Weekly quests for currencies in the form they took in dragonflight didnt exist so there was no reason to the city.
Mythic zeros did not exist so once you got heroic gear from dungeons you just literally didnt even do them anymore leaving the only dungeon content completely queuable.
Work orders did exist in wod during the garrison and was why you didn’t even need a 2nd or third character, much less go out in the world, to do profession making. Use your profession building, and turn right around and sell it in the trading post or put it in your storehouse.
Like, this works against you more than for you here.
I havent found a single decor item that is costly to make.
If you’re complaining about the auction house prices? Tough.
Make them yourself or spend on the convenience of someone else doing the work for you.
It takes like an hour to get more than enough lumber btw.
Sure, for people who won’t bother playing the content it would be.
All the mats are normal farmed mats. You even had months in advance to buy every single mat you would need because we knew what they would cost ahead of time.
VERY few decor pieces use something thats expensive. Now, a cheaper alternative? Sure. But all of them? Give me a break.
It’s the first expansion that has had them and, again, its been out for 2 months. Patience.
Because thats how game development works. This has been fully out for 2 months. We have had hundreds of items added in 2 months. we already nearly doubled the total amount of items in game that existed pre midnight, and we arent even at the first patch yet. Give it time.
Agreed. We have ample evidence that they are too small as when blizzard implemented the visible borders, they arbitrarily decided to make the plot lines smaller and have yet to correct them. Even when we get more outdoor budget, I’m not moving the items that were at the old plot size nor am I moving any decor that was, intentional or not, changed to indoor only.
Any day now I’m expecting my exterior to lose pieces once they either remove items past the new plot lines, remove what was changed to indoor only, or both.
i guess them doing that will give me the drive to potentially change my house to a medium one since the main reason I didnt want to do that was because I knew it would mess up my yard.
Stability and performance. I’ll take the stability of my game over you being able to stuff your yard to make it pretty for likes and clicks. Also from that same article:
In the Midnight alpha, we had to disable exterior lighting due to performance concerns on the client. We’re currently working on a way to re-enable this in a way that remains performant. At the moment, this is taking the form of proximity restrictions so two light sources outside cannot be placed too close to one another (which is where the bulk of the performance impacts come from). This restriction will only exist outdoors and you’ll be free to place all the lights on top of each other indoors like you can today.
Once this is implemented, we’re going to run additional performance tests to see how exterior lights affect performance in a Neighborhood with a lot of players and every plot fully decorated. Assuming these numbers come back favorably, we’ll be increasing the exterior decor limits again as well.
Not 2 mini patches later:
I bet this still wont be good enough and yall will still complain, as the forums usually do.
Not at the expense of stability. Not budging on that.
It’s been 2 months. Most of the bugs have been active for a few weeks. Patience is a virtue almost none of you have.
How
It does literally nothing to remind you all every single day or week that “Yes this is still broken” like yall have the mental awareness of children, especially when most of you don’t even read it the first time.
If most of you cared about housing as much as you claim to do in long winded posts, I wouldnt be linking a February 24th post straight from them for probably the 13th time in a month.
Okay? What relevance does stating this even have?
Again, from the same post:
Currently, we’re planning for Layouts to work on a room by room, an exterior plot, and a “whole dang house” basis but we’re also exploring some other finer-grained options here too.
It’s important to note that the sharing of a Layout is an explicit choice and up to the sole discretion of the house owner. Unless you, as the owner, decide to export and share a Layout, players (even those who have permissions to your house) cannot access or import it.
Another important note is that when you import a Layout, you don’t need to own all the decor, but you will need to have any necessary rooms or houses unlocked. We’ll try our best to make the import work (leaving out objects you don’t own, not coloring objects you don’t have the dye for, etc), but some things would break the bounds of physics too much for a direct import!
There’s a whole lot of logistics for us to figure out still since we want these to be very flexible and usable by everyone, but we’re excited to talk more about Layouts in the future!
Like, it’s almost like your long winded post has largely already been answered, you, and a few others, just dont care enough to read it and stay informed in the near 3 months this post has been out, or the same amount of time for the housing video that holly and ion put out.
To have the exact same posts almost word for word keep appearing shows that yall don’t care near as much as you claim you do. Or alternatively, you ignore all the information known to yall so you can continue to complain on the forums.
I say yall because there are 7 likes and 1 reply to your post besides mine that are acting like none of this information exists or is readily available.
You dont have to.
Please, no.
They aren’t. This is overly dramatic for the sake of being dramatic. There are multiple avenues, ingame, out of game, and through addons, that give you all this information.
You are willfully choosing to ignore ALL of that to make up a situation that doesnt exist.
I did play during that time. Extensively. I think you are blowing this way out of proportion.
It’s Friday night, have a drink or something.
Nothing did before legion.
Yes it did.
Iron Horde incursion to draw you in.
Ashran pvp events
It was limited in scope, and wasnt like, for example, the Superbloom, but they existed.
Ashran. You can not count it all you want, but it had everything a central hub usually did.
The point was that it was an outpost in an alternate reality.
It made sense for what it was going for.
Should we have gotten shattrath? Yeah, but they were focused on making it a raid until they straight up scrapped it.
It didnt work in comparison to the vale of eternal blossom shrines or dalaran, which is why we went back to cities, but it was never going to work anyway because everything Ashran could have done, the garrisons did, but better. We even had a flight master.
It was added because people weren’t doing anything but staying in their garrison. They weren’t going to orgrimmar or stormwind or the vale either.
This just isnt true.
Neither is this. You straight up did not need to leave your garrison ever, especially if you had multiple characters, which the people who loved garrisons did. There’s also the very real money missions that generated millions of gold and started us on the trend of inflation. Removing the method of obtaining the gold without also removing the gold generated did nothing to curb that.
They didn’t need to do anything.
All that has ever existed in this game outside of seeing the environment or doing dungeons/raid content has been:
Bank
Auction House
Professions
Gold making
Resource gathering
Instanced pvp content, as world pvp has effectively been dead since late vanilla early TBC.
The garrison did 5 of those things for you.
Dungeon finder/raid finder did the rest, otherwise the only reason you left was for Challenge Modes or Raiding beyond LFR, and thats if you even did that.
Garrisons would have been what they were whether we had a city as our hub or not, and whether we had an extra raid tier or not, because of the sheer amount of resources and ease it gave you to do relevant content.
You have the garrison if you still want that, go back to it.
Then this must be the first post you’ve seen, which like..tracks since you only have 47 posts in total to begin with, with 13 of them being in this thread alone.
Both of these are far better ideas than what Thelula wants.
All of this is just a long-winded excuse for having the forethought of a mossy rock and not being able to visualize above 10, or being able to plan at all
All of it can be solved by living more than .5 seconds ahead in thinking.
That’s not an insult, an ounce of forethought and visualization really can fix ALL of that without needing to dumb the game down.
In most of wows life the things that really mattered for crafting still made you go to a certain place.
Scholomance for flasks, to name one example.
It should have been. This is a change I would like to see so Im not holding 61 bank slots of them.
It is actually so hypocritically hilarious that you only see value in crafting tables if you can get player power from it to the point that you practically broke your arm in the reach you made to completely change what they said.
We know the chronically loner player doesn’t care about the social impact of cities. You already play with no one. Of course you’re for nearly all of this.
Please, leave again, ever since I saw your first post, you’ve offered next to no positive insight.
The only reason they didn’t cross the line is because the crests are warbound and they count towards your cap.
The first iteration? The crests were the same item you get from Vaskarn, only they didn’t count.
If one thinks 20 hero crests week one that didn’t count wouldn’t be seen as mandatory for anyone actually progressing in the game, especially if they made them warbound but still not count, and then stupidly (or intentionally) didnt make them account wide.
Imagine, just logging into your army of alts you would have just had from remix, and do that quest 30 times. well, you suddenly have 600 hero crests which is 200 shy of the cap right now 2 months in, in addition to the ones you were already given that started at..I believe 160?
Couple that with m+ being the easiest it’s ever been since implementation and the gearing being even easier, and you can see why that would have been a big problem real quickly.
It doesnt matter what you’re tired of. It would happen. 100% would turn housing into another garrison or torghast. There is a reason they are both hated by the majority of the playerbase.
I can understand people wanting more practical things in their houses, and I can also understand Blizzard’s reluctance to do that. They don’t want us having so much functionality in our homes that we never need to leave them, they want us to have to go out in the world.
Garrisons were a fail because we can mine, herb, fish, and craft items we have no profession for by simply dropping the right hut. That is the antithesis of getting us out in the world. It was stupid then, it’s stupid now. No crafting tables, no mat farming, no access to anything that all of us can’t already potentially pick up in the game and carry with us. Which raises the point of, yes, there should be more functionality to housing, but within the limit of what we can already do in the game.
We already have functional mailboxes, and functional cooking items. This makes sense. After all, there are toys, pets, and mounts that allow us to access mail, and a cooking fire can be dropped almost anywhere to cook with at any time. To not allow those things in housing would be restrictive to the point of really weird.
What else would be fair and reasonable? A normal forge/anvil. Not a crafting table. There is no crafting table in the game that we can carry around with us, but we can craft or buy from the AH an endless supply of Thermal Anvils. At present there is nothing stopping someone dropping a Thermal Anvil inside their house to use, so why not make decor anvils and forges functional in a normal, non-crafting table, way? It won’t change player behaviour, it will just be a minor convenience.
Transmog is another one. Why not dressing table and wardrobe decor that functions as a transmog changer? I can already use a mount to change my mog, and that mount is still available in game for anyone to get. It won’t change playability, not having it won’t make me go into town, it will only be another minor convenience. Put the decor behind a quest wall so the player has to put just as much effort into getting as it as they would need to get the mount if need be.
We can access our warbank from our spellbook, why not from chest decor as well?
Auction House access is the only thing that could be fairly debateable as to whether putting one in the neighbourhood would be reasonable or not. The only way to access the AH away from a city is by using a shopasaurus, no version of which is currently available, you either have one or you don’t. So many people do have one, and when they’re sitting on it everyone in the area can use it, so… maybe put one in the neighbourhood near the vendors…? Or not. As I said, that one is fair to debate about.
The way I see it, if it’s something we can already get access in the game and then carry it around with us - without needing to be a specific class or profession to do so - it may as well exist as decor. It’s not going to change how we play the game when it’s something we’re already doing.
The only other logical reason for not making some of these things functional decor is computer juice. I’m not a programmer, but I’m not totally ignorant and I’m aware enough to know that might be a factor. If functionality would bog the system down and make housing unplayable, fine, we’ll just have to go without, but if that’s the case, Dear Blizzard devs, tell us straight. Don’t use excuses about us going out into the world when that horse has already bolted.
OH! I love this idea completely!
That wasn’t what was suggested. Garrisons were tied to the expansion. At the time, it was Warlords of Draenor. This time it’s Midnight. Making housing like Garrisons would make it required for progression through Midnight.
Again- there’s no way to FORCE people to interact with you in game. Leave your neighborhood and search for one more active if it bothers you that no one will AFK in yours.
And again, a neighborhood should feel like one. If i go into a city i see people it feels alive because people have a reason to be there. I don’t interact with anyone there and i even keep trade chat off so i avoid the spam. If i go to SW there’s players there, if i go IF there’s players there, if i go Oribos there’s players there. No one is going to abandon a major city, and no one in these forums is asking for the neighborhood to become one
People tend to forget WoD was the biggest content gap expansion we had, no one was playing especially late in the xpac, the garrison had plenty of flaw, but the sole hate is truly misplaced, The cities were empty and would have been regardless of the garrison or not.
I hope for your sake housing stays EXACTLAY the way it is, then it can die off after Midnight and you’ll be back here posting about lack of updates and new decor, Look at archaeology look at pet battles, nothing is immune to lack of player interest
If you want houses to be like Garrisons- well they are. Me being in my Garrison was not me being in YOUR Garrison. You could not see anyone in his or her own Garrison. So if you really want housing to be like Garrisons- well… they are. You’re alone in your neighborhood.
You got what you wanted!
If you’re worried about how populated a place is, push Blizz to put more NPCs in and make them more active.
Other players do not owe you their presence, time, or participation.
If the game today was anything like WoD then you’d have a point. If housing worked remotely like garrisons did you’d be right.
It isn’t and they are not remotely the same though.
I was under the impression that the issue with Garrisons was that they had follower missions like in the Legion class halls, but on crack, so you could just spend all day managing those and making gold that way.
And that when combined with the truncated content in WoD, it was just the least bad way for players to spend their online time.
Of course, that’s only an “issue” if you think players should be leveraged to interact and do stuff with other players.
