Ideas to save housing

Housing was great at first, my community of friends all actively engaged, touring each others home daily, plenty of levels to climb for more budget. it got a little stale but new decor was added, midnight dropped at while we’ve kept getting more decor, especially and conveniently from the store, where’s the budget to place anything? without that there’s 0 reason to visit.

1. make it more garrison like, there needs to be active weekly quest not just endeavors and the same vendor trying to get me to fly around for a flower so i can get the same chair for the 50th time.

  1. Crafting stations. give me reasons to not leave, let me do work orders/enchants
  2. Let members unlock unique vendors through achievements, Auctioneers/Black Market things that will get us to visit and stay. Portal straight to raids for people who have cleared heroic or higher, nothing game breaking but things that will keep people active
  3. Get rid of the bullsh*t shop currency, absolutely NO reason you couldn’t use traders tender, people still have the opportunity to get the items without spending money, players that really want something will still buy it. With your current system and the community backlash you’re not going to clean house like you were hoping. (its okay to admit you were wrong and rollback to save face)
  4. Mission tables in your home? no no not new ones, Let me place ones from previous xpacs, there’s achievements i’m working on and i might actually finish them if i could Place them in my home.
Despite the bugs housing is still good, despite the horrid shop move housing is still good. We just need more reasons to be there

Let me guess, you were just reading Wowhead’s latest piece on adding player power to housing?

No? but good if I’m not the only one thinking like this, multiple people invented the telephone at the same time ya know. trying to figure out what your links about, did you have an aneurysm typing

Copying and pasting a link is quite easy. Don’t worry your pretty head about me, pumpkin.

Looking up articles on Wowhead is also quite easy. If you do that, you might see what I was talking about.

Ahh i see, lol you learned something new in college today and wanted to use it, props if you used it right, but you didn’t. Bleunienn - level 60 troll, not quite 90 yet. Touch grass my guy

I don’t see how these ideas would save housing

no thanks, I don’t need housing to be yet another thing on the massive wow list of chore crap to do. as is, a fun relaxing side activity with no player power attached to it and it needs to stay that way.

maybe but then you totally lost me at

absolutely not.

traders tender is already a very limited currency for those who like mounts/ pets/ transmog, this would actually make acquiring things worse. house decor shouldn’t be added to that without an increase to the accumulation of tenders.

Dumbest take I’ve ever seen. What’s your metric that it’s “dead”?

They need to keep housing optional and with no player power attached.

Nothing wrong with shop items. It keeps our sub fees down. Nobody is forced to buy anything on there.

Oh, pumpkin. Bless.

You’re new here, aren’t you?

All of your suggestions have been the topic of flame wars since beta. Maybe since alpha

Taking a game mode that’s enjoyable to some players, and making it mandatory for all players is how you get Torghast.

There are a lot of people who don’t want another Torghast.

If anything is to be done it needs to be on the lightweight side for the neighborhood. It should not be like a small city where you have no reason to leave, let alone make just your home a place you never want to leave.

Players not leaving their garrisons made them an albatross around the neck of the entire game. Your proposition is to create a micro-garrison on steroids by rolling up everything in the past and everything that is a benefit/convivence to a capital city and more into your backyard. In other words, no can do.

for some improvements:

  • I do agree with Blizz ditching the currency idea. They need to drop it before sinking too many resources into it.
  • Like everybody else, I presume, relaxing the restrictions on total items you can collect and use indoors and outdoors is a must.
  • Loosening up restrictions on what can be used in and out doors would be nice..
  • They also need to get it so that things unlocked by past things such as reputation, quests & achievements unlick them for all of your warband. I am so thankful that I have never deleted a character. Now I am just stuck figuring out who did what.
  • Bringing all venders to a central location would be a nightmare but some consolidation would be a good idea. Bring things together in places like the capital cities of an expansion and primary hubs of new zones from patches. More specialized things like class halls are fine the way they are.
  • A personal item I would not mind are lockable doors. My place is an in-progress wreck at the moment but I do not mind people visiting. If/when I make it tonally open for anybody to use having an area that is my own personal space would be a plus.

Let’s double check to see if this was written four months ago.

Housing doesnt need to be saved.

Frankly, OP, I don’t find any of your suggestions of any interest.
Most of your ideas were in our Garrisons and it did not make things better.

I think you’re all missing the point OP is trying to make with the suggestions. When people go to their house its only to their house, the neighborhood was suppose to feel like a community. My house was on a public server for a month, I saw no one, and all doors locked. i joined a private community, I still see no one but all doors unlocked. It feels like solo minecraft, lonely. None of those ideas ruin the Major city hub nor force anyone into housing.

I think it was Aunctioneers/Black Market NPC and things like that, not actual Black Market items that a vendor sells, that would be silly

Micro transactions are Blizzards new thing, some form of cash payment for decor is here to stay, but if Traders Tender was buyable and used for housing decor as well people could save up for full or even partial payments to a decor item or pack. Personally I only buy the items that interest me and always have an abundance of Tenders

Ya’ll are forgetting exactly why there’s so much pushback against garrisons and why we don’t want garrisons 2.0.

And at the end of the day, if you want a garrison, the go back to your garrison.

Housing will last this X-pac and doesn’t exactly need saved, but at its current state I’m not so sure it has a future beyond Midnight.

I’ll keep this simple.

Crafting stations: yes. Although I hate that they are even a thing, when I think about housing in a medieval fantasy type game this is probably the first thing that comes to mind. It’s not like we can have shops in the capital right off of our house, but thematically it makes sense to me. A dwarf at a forge, or an elf piecing together armor in a workshop at home….players have already created fake alchemy areas using decor. These characters would be doing profession stuff out of their homes, not making the long trek to town all of the time to work. It just makes sense from an immersion perspective.

Auction house: no. Convenient maybe, but it doesn’t make sense. Auction houses are supposed to be a business in a central location where people bring their wares to sell, not have customers come to them. Hate to bring it up, but it always kind of bugged me that garrisons even had an auction house option because it doesn’t make sense. It’s a fort, not a city.

Trader tenders: eh. I already don’t have enough tenders for what I want, but other players have too many. I’m going to say it’s not a wise choice for multiple reasons. If the TP had a second tab with a separate currency that had housing decor then that wouldn’t be bad, but Blizz would probably say that’s what coupons and endeavors are for. Sadly, endeavors have been fairly repetitive and limited so far though. They should probably look into how they can make endeavors work better.

Old mission tables: maybe, although they probably don’t make sense like crafting tables, they would be a convenience for the 12 of us who still bother to check them. Since they’re old content, I really don’t see what it could hurt if I didn’t have to hoof it to each one. Then again, I only do missions for pet charms and I’ve seen very very few of those.

Other notes: hearthsteel isn’t going anywhere I’m afraid. Hopefully they learn how to balance it so that it isn’t such a rainy cloud on housing.

Maybe they can come up with new things though. I know that I still want something from my house beyond decorating. I’m not an RPer, so even though I love housing that isn’t going to be a thing for me. I guess if I had to make a list of requirements for home activities it would be:

Must feel optional, but still rewarding in some way. It can’t be so optional that there isn’t a point, but if a player wants to stop doing it or even take a break it shouldn’t feel punishing.

Happens often, but not too often. I still think a once per week activity or handful of activities just to pop in, take in the scenery of what I’ve created, say hello to the pets, do my chores, and wait until the following week sounds nice. I don’t want daily I don’t think and once a month I will definitely forget or not bother.

Must be able to grow with housing. It can’t be limited to just an expansion or just “here’s 6 pieces of decor you can earn, now wait a few months until we add more” or whatever.

i like the idea for weekly quests, even more so for guilds that are kinda dead. i shouldn’t have to abandon a guild simply to get housing decor.

I am an avid user of housing in multiple games. I have owned and operated a fantasy nature full region for six years in Second Life that I personally built including both purchased and custom builds, texturing, scripting, landscaping, promotion, moderation and community involvement. I have more custom build houses in ESO than I can count. I played Palia for the housing until it made me fall asleep. WoW housing needs some changes if it is going to succeed long-term.

The way that housing is instanced was a mistake. It is too removed from the world and there is no way to easily navigate to other neighborhoods for sight-seeing. An opt-in gallery for players to select and visit other player homes is an absolute must. There should be a neighborhood portal and gallery selection board in every city.

The raging push-back against allowing crafting stations in homes and raising the spectre of garrisons is misguided. Allowing personal crafting in the homes will not remove everyone from the world. The current game is nothing like WoD and there are a myriad of reasons for players to engage in the cities/open world that did not exist at all in WoD. That said, work orders should remain only able to be done in cities as those require engagement of more than one player or the appearance of engagement for npc work orders and should remain a social activity.

Crafted decor items are too costly and their components too time consuming, costly or rare to collect. Crafted recipes are too limited and low in number.

Vendor decor items are too limited and too costly in old currencies. The game has assets in the tens or hundreds of thousands, why are we limited to a relative handful of them?

Plots are too small and exterior decor limits too low for the most dedicated of builders to really enjoy. People want to create amazing things. Let them.

Bug fixes are too slow. Communication has been sorely lacking.

There are a large number of people very dedicated to housing. They have already built their homes and fully furnished them, and won’t tear them down and rebuild until there is a layout save available to preserve the many hours already invested in the system. The layout save (including furnishings and exterior decor) should be implemented as soon as possible to keep the most dedicated housing players engaged.

I love WoW housing, and I want to see it succeed. I have fully built out both my Alliance and Horde houses, I long ago met the cap on level increase, I have purchased every vendor item many times over and am just waiting to be able to save my current work and collect new items before I really engage with the system further. At this point, there is nothing left for me to do.

I like your ideas, but I wasn’t aware that housing was in need of saving.

It’s doing ok, there’s room for improvement, and we could use more engagement.

But it’s not dead.
