Unofficial Undead Ideas and Changes (updated 7/4/2024)

As one of the few players who still care about pet battling, I feel nothing but boredom and disappointment as none of the new pets or even most of the old pets are any good, so I am on a journey to redesign as many battle pets as I could to hopefully prove pet battling could be revived under my leadership in the future assuming Blizzard hires me. Many new abilities, balance changes, and most importantly: many new pets! This list will be very long, unsurprisingly!

New Abilities:
Aquatic:

  • Best Frenzies is similar to Stampede.
  • Weaker version of Squeeze.

Beast:

Critter:

  • Critter versions of Brittle Webbing and Sticky Web, and Spiderling Swarm.
  • Beehive is similar to Terrifying Toxicity.
  • Feral Scratching hits 4 times and has a stronger version with a 1 round cooldown.
  • Scurry is similar to Furious Surge.

Dragonkin:

  • Chilling Winds (which replaces Call Blizzard) is similar to Scorched Earth, but chilly as the name suggests and all pets are chilled instead of burning.
  • Frost Fever is the dragonkin equivalent of Deep Freeze.

Elemental:

  • Gnarled Thorns is a strong damage reduction/thorns ability.
  • Poison Seed deals damage over time and additional damage for 4 rounds.
  • Pyro Blast hits hard and burns for 2 rounds.

Flying:

  • Eye Gouge hits hard and blinds the enemy for 1 round.
  • Eye Poke (weaker) damages and blinds the enemy by 50% for 2 rounds.
  • Eye Poke (stronger) hits hard and has a 50% chance of blinding the enemy by 50% for 1 round.
  • Hurricane changes the weather to hurricane, increasing flying damage dealt by 25% and swapping to another pet will root the current pet for 3 rounds.
  • Wind Sweep hits hard and has a 50% chance of dealing damage each round for 3 rounds.

Humanoid:

  • Ambush and Tiger Palm deal additional damage if the user goes first.
  • Assassinate is an evade and ambush ability.
  • Fists of Fury hits 4 times and has a stronger version with a 1 round cooldown.
  • Shove is a force swap.
  • Steady Shot is the same as Shot to the Heart.

Magic:

  • Arcane Familiar is a minion summoning ability.
  • Spirits of the Flame is similar to Sons of the Flame.

Mechanical:

  • High Voltage is a strong thorns ability.
  • Nuts and Bolts is a barrage ability.

Undead:

  • Blight Breath deals split team damage.
  • Bone Spikes is a thorns ability.
  • Boo is a force swap.
  • Cloven Soul damages and lowers the enemy’s damage and speed by 50% for 1 round with a 1 round cooldown.
  • Frighten damages and slows down the enemy for 4 rounds.
  • Gorging Parasites deals damage over time for 5 rounds.
  • Great Plague poisons the enemy team.
  • Necrotic Bomb is a delayed burst ability which stuns the enemy.
  • Phantasm is an evade and ambush ability.
  • Rabid Clawing hits 4 times and has a stronger version with a 1 round cooldown.
  • Rotting Bile deals damage over time and additional damage for 4 rounds.
  • Soul Funnel is a heal over time.
  • Soul Harvest damages the enemy team and heals the user’s team.
  • Soul Trap has a chance each round to detonate and stun the enemy.
  • Summon Demon is the same as Raise Ally but summons an imp instead.
  • Unholy Charge is a two round burst ability.
  • Vampiric Embrace is similar to Feed.
  • Wail damages and slows down the enemy for 4 rounds with a 3 round cooldown.
  • Zombie Scourge is similar to Stampede.

Other:

  • Asphyxiate, Paralysis, Scared Stiff, and Web Wrap are stuns.
  • Bloodlust is a 50% critical strike chance buff for 5 rounds.
  • Greed (50% critical strike chance for 5 rounds) and Lucky Coin (team 50% accuracy and 25% critical strike chance for 4 rounds) are split from Need Before Greed (removed).
  • Taunt is visually different from Deflection.
  • Time Warp is a team speed buff.

Balance Changes:

Aquatic:

  • All brew abilities changed to aquatic.
  • Blood in the Water changed to a finisher similar to Impale.
  • Gnash no longer bleeds and instead deals additional damage if the user goes first.
  • Inebriate now blinds the enemy for 1 round with a 3 round cooldown.

Beast:

  • Impale damage and cooldown raised.
  • Mangle additional damage raised, but the duration is lowered to 4 rounds.
  • Pig Out damage, lifesteal, and cooldown raised.
  • Prowl duration raised to 3 rounds and cooldown lowered to 3 rounds.
  • Rake damage and cooldown lowered and now lowers the enemy’s damage and speed by 50% for 1 round.
  • Shell Armor duration raised by 1 round.
  • Trihorn Charge damage lowered and no longer has a cooldown.

Critter:

  • Locust Swarm no longer has a cooldown and increases damage done by 10% on first use.

Dragonkin:

  • Cataclysm damage lowered, cooldown raised, accuracy raised to 100%, and has a 50% chance to burn for 3 rounds.
  • Frost Breath now chills and deals damage over time.

Elemental:

  • Blizzard (weather) is now similar to Scorched Earth but chilly, all active pets are chilled instead of burning and no longer has an elemental damage bonus.

Flying:

  • Furious Flapping no longer has a cooldown and instead deals additional damage if the user goes first.

Humanoid:

  • Dark Fate is now similar to Early Advantage (changed to magic) instead.

Magic:

  • Clean Up now deals non-split team damage instead.

Mechanical:

  • Railgun changed to mechanical.
  • Storm Coil renamed to Tesla Coil and damage and cooldown raised.

Undead:

  • Agony adds damage to each hit for 4 rounds instead.
  • Bone Prison changed to a stun.
  • Bonestorm now deals split team damage (as much as an AoE with a 4 round cooldown despite having a 3 round cooldown) and the self-inflicted damage now scales with power instead.
  • Burp changed to undead.
  • Call Darkness renamed to Ritual of Shadow and changed to undead.
  • Creeping Fungus now lasts 5 rounds and no longer benefits from moonlight.
  • Great Cleave damage and cooldown raised.
  • Macabre Maraca changed to undead.
  • Meat Hook damage and cooldown raised.
  • Roar of the Dead reworked to damage the enemy team and increase damage done by 25% for 4 rounds.
  • Shadow Talon changed to undead.
  • Sludge Belch no longer has a cooldown.
  • Spore Shrooms changed to undead.

Other:

  • All double damage boost abilities last 1 round with a 1 round cooldown (I only listed this due to double damage boost abilities being inconsistently balanced).
  • Cocoon (renamed from Cocoon Strike) and Mummy Wrap completely reworked to be similar to Deep Research instead.
  • Evolution completely reworked to a heal and a life steal buff for 4 rounds which starts on an 8 round cooldown.
  • Going Bonkers changed to a 100% damage boost for 1 round.

Some entries are still unfinished, so I may need help filling in the blanks. Constructive criticism is helpful. Granted, some pets do have extra abilities for good reason: some movesets would feel incomplete (Rascal-Bot would lose Armageddon otherwise). Also a great way to include more underused abilities I want.

Also, I changed the Unborn Val’kyr to humanoid because she would greatly benefit from the passive healing racial and because the Skeletal Warlock shares almost the same moveset with p/p breed instead of h/h, but besides, both would be absolutely legendary.
