Hi there, I dusted off my MoP alt DK and decided to get him geared up recently and there’s a few things I have noticed in respect to how 2H Frost performs at a baseline level, that should be altered, for the better.
Why is there an unavoidable damage penalty for 2H Frost when either using Rune of the Fallen Crusader or Razorice?
DW has access to both, yet the Might of the Frozen Wastes passive for using a 2H still doesn’t make up for the penalty of only using 1 runeforge. 30% more obliterate damage doesn’t offset the lost frost damage nor does it take into affect that DW inherently has vastly more Killing Machine procs since they’re tied into auto attack critical hits.
I belive an easy fix would be to introduce a new 2H runeforge that would allow both Razorice and Fallen Crusader to be engraved.
“Rune of the Icy Crusader”; your attacks apply Razorice to the target and also have a chance of increasing your strength by 15% as well as healing you.
2H Frost is still a good chunk, circa 8% behind DW running a Breath of Sindragosa build and that would likely, but not completely, be due to a lack of Razorice when Fallen Crusader is the runeforge of choice.
Having 2 2H weapons to swap between either AoE or ST is a compromise Unholy doesn’t have to make in order for their baseline damage profile to perform. If this were the case I would hazard a guess that it wouldn’t be very well liked either, similarly to how I feel regarding 2H Frost.
Additionally, rotating between specs, unless you have another similar ilvl weapon, Razorice has zero interaction or benefit for either Blood or Unholy, whereas Fallen Crusader is universal and a dps loss in ST for 2H Frost players.
I will argue against Glacial Advance applying Razorice as when compared to Gathering Storm, Glacial Advance is very lacklustre and drastically affects your DPS anytime you are building RP for your breath window or during your breath window.
A hypothetical would be; imagine epidemic had to be used in ST during Dark Transformation to apply a shadow damage debuff where the Unholy DK wants to pump as much Death Coils as possible to reduce the CD and extend their Dark Transformation for as long as possible.
As an aside, for anyone of the opinion to just "go DW you nub! That isn’t something Fury Warriors have to decide on. They are more or less a free agent in respect to choosing to DW 1H or 2H. They can run dual enchants and the downside for 1H is that you have a bit less stam and a downside to 2H of missing out on a move speed bonus and a small damage modifier. DW 1H doesn’t get some special treatment with enrage or anything important stuff.
I apologise if this appears as ramblings, these are just the observations of a noob DK player that wants some intra-spec design coherency. I look forward to your comments below .
P.S I omitted an idea of having Remorseless Winter applying Razorice due to the possibility of opening up an enchant slot that would solely benefit DW, i.e Sinful, Lightless etc…
