I love running dungeons while leveling, and enjoy dungeons / raiding in general, but I get really bored doing just 8 dungeons, 'cause it gets a little repetitive – plus, chances are, there’ll be at least 1 that I can’t stand or is super out of the way like Uldaman, yeah? Limits me even more.
So I’d love it if we had more than just 8 dungeons. Like 12-14 would be neat, give more variety, and bring in more old dungeons at once. I loved the Cata dungeons when they were in rotation.
Ya 8 new dungeons and rehashed old ones mixed in that nobody even liked before is pretty blah. Or like this season where most of the new dungeons from this expansion aren’t fun anyway. They could put a lot more effort into making things fun but they don’t so.
Not memorizing a route results in either overpulling, adding however long it takes to kill however many extra packs you pulled to the time spent, or underpulling, resulting in having to backtrack at the end to find some trash to finish the bar - hopefully there’s something nearby and you didn’t backload the trash you did kill.
It can easily be minutes, not 5 seconds.
Plus any deaths that happen during unnecessary pulls.
Not saying you can’t wing it and eventually come up with something that works “good enough” after doing it a few times. But that just makes it more likely that a run fails than necessary. Even in lower keys, a better route is just extra leeway for mistakes. Which is good.
I actually wouldn’t at all be shocked if they back off the “8 new dungeons at launch” as soon as Midnight. It’ll probably go down to 4 eventually would be my guess.
I think you’re using the wrong word there…“optimal” is the word you should be using. And I’m not sure how using the optimal routes when racing against a timer would ruin the experience. I mean, you want to beat the clock so Im not sure how failing because you wasted a bunch of time doing your own thing would make tanking more enjoyable.
Unpopular opinion here but I really dislike the rehashing of old dungeons. I really have like 0 interest in re-progressing old content beyond maybe 1 or 2 runs.
I do think if they are going to keep doing it, they need to go further back in WoW’s history. I know it is more work since those dungeons predate M+, but Legion/BFA M+ just doesn’t feel old enough.
Most popular routes aren’t optimal, they’re just an agreed middle ground between speed and safety. You can make concessions in either direction most anywhere in a dungeon and this leads to a lot more variety in routing than you might expect. Blizzard have also done a pass of problematic dungeon mobs this season and massively reduced the number of “banned” packs and increasing options / variety throughout.
