I wish we could stop visiting external sources, supporting PTR and watching streamers.
I know it’s not going to happen, but I wish gaming could get back to its golden age. To unknown lands and exploration.
Just a rant of another millennial.
Happy travels.

Yeah.
I wish broken games were released and the only way to fix them was fan made patches.
The golden days.
When we didnt go to external websites for additional info. You bought the official Prima strategy guide when you purchased the game.

While i agree that it would be great to play a game that doesn’t lean so heavily on other websites and addons just to function, can you imagine how long it would take them to produce content if they had to do all of that work themselves? lol

As a millennial myself, this is just pure rose tinted goggles here.
Those were the dark ages where we have to pay for unhelpful tips from people who don’t even play video games and just write whatever stuff they feel obliged to for a quick pay.
I’m glad this sort of information is free and readily available (and with experience) at my fingertips and on my other monitor.
You can literally play games without ever opening a browser, you can do the same with WoW. After initial installation of coarse.

No one is forcing you to go to external sources.

Hello, thanks for purchasing this game. Do you want to also add in this prima guide with a discount with all the cheats, map layouts, and answers to all the puzzles?

Easy man, stop reading Wowhead and just log in to play.

Man, I just miss when guides were written. I hate having to watch a 10 minute youtube video for 5 seconds of info.

Yeah, OP must not remember that there used to be an entire genre of books focused on providing hints, tips, and guides for video games…
But they were expensive, so not everyone got to use them

we can. just don’t do those things. i don’t play ptr and the only streamers i watch are the ones who play the game instead of just talking about it.

I mean, sure, but it’s tough to justify knowing nothing when it’s a multiplayer game and literally everyone around you knows everything before content even releases because of external sources.
Same issue as “if you don’t like flight just don’t fly”. Doing it alone is really just a detriment to yourself without “fixing” the perceived issue, since everyone else would still be zooming about around you.
You can get away with this mentality in single player games, easy.
Gets trickier in multiplayer.

"hey gamers! today we’re going to show you which box to click on to complete the ‘click on the box’ quest. this is a level 20 quest in the video game ‘world of warcraft’ located in the ‘box town’ zone. now before we start, i’d like to mention my sponsor, ‘box’ computer builders. just a few quick words about them…

Honestly, WoW’s kinda lucky it’s external information is as good as it is.
Trying to find information on new games is miserable, since you’ve got certain sites that are complete garbage but SEO’d out the wazoo.

I don’t watch streamers or take part in the PTR. I do visit external websites on occasion, just like I did back in the days of Allakazam when I ran into issues and needed an extra hand.
Yes. It’s still a choice. It’s not a good choice for the reasons you outlined, but if it’s that important, one can absolutely abstain.
The problem is that he wants everyone else to abstain as well. He is absolutely free to believe as he wishes and impose any self-regulation he wants that’ll make his experience more fun.
What he’s not allowed to do is impose those regulations on other people who do not share his beliefs. That’s evil.

When I started playing the game in 2009 it was about the middle of Wrath and people were still just leveling in zones and chilling. There were so many players just in Teldrassil running around and leveling and being a noob like me it was pretty fun. Even had people to group with to get through the leveling together and group quests.
All of that is pretty much gone now in retail and you can’t get that back. Even in Classic you can’t get that kind of experience back at all. Everyone has to have it all figured out and try to copy some god tier leveling player, or take the optimal route, and so forth and so on. A lot of people were way way more chill back then.

tfw you spend more time navigating through wowhead than the game it be like that sometimes lol
Didn’t people used to buy slick guide books during the golden age? Even in the days of Zork, guides were published in gaming magazines.
I will admit that I use WOWhead but 95% of my gameplay is in the game itself. Most things can be figured out without an outside source.
