I wish Blizz would go a little further with cultures than their stereotypes

Bad writing in my opinion though. But one takes what one can.

I know! I tried to put a little edit in my post - Mkali, I know that there are lots of aspects of WoW that defy these traditional tropes. The Dwarven love of steam tanks, the human’s skyships, the night elves as a whole are honestly a pretty cool take!
There are some great parts of this game’s world. I love how everything’s been built up, and I love the novels and comics. Goodness I’m talking more about things like…dwarves trying to see if they can turn anything into alcohol, that pair of bosses in the Iron Docks that were supposedly generals, but the joke was they were incompetant, or how our overcoming of the whole iron horde was more due to their ineptitude than our cunning, despite evidence of their intelligence and planning.

I know these stereotypes don’t define WoW’s cultures, but they’re there, and they’re just kinda used as the filler between every major event, at least that’s how it feels is all.

I think my latest favorite example is how they’re making their golden boy Turalyon look like a total chump for having bought into what Lorthraxion was selling. It’s hilarious.

I mean I think they’re right. Don’t believe in anything with a will or an agenda. His whole following the Naaru thing? Yeah goodness talk about zealotry.

I agree with all the characters you listed except Gallywix. Has he ever shown himself not to a moral less capitalist who would sooner enslave his entire population rather than give up a single copper to do then right thing?

To be fair they’re pretty obviously setting Turalyon up to be villain batted. His most recent appearance in a novel had him torturing refugees for information on Sylvanas.

I mentioned Galliwix, because he got removed and replaced. Thus the entire look on the Goblins will eventually evolve.

Gotcha - well, if you’re looking for a completely Eberron or Planescape-esque “every race defies its standard fantasy tropes” setting - where e.g. elves are all necromancers and gnomes are wolf-riding barbarians and there are playable robots* etc - then no, Azeroth won’t deliver on that for you. WoW’s massive popularity means it has to be accessible for those who come into it expecting nature-loving elves, technocratic gnomes and beer-swilling dwarves.

Individuals can and do break away from that, but the baseline being there makes sense.

I’ll believe an Alliance figure becoming an actual villain when I see it. Until then, I’ll just wait for the next Horde warchief to become either a loot piñata or a lapdog for the Alliance because they messed up again.

Eh… The game has always been a game first and story second. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

There were like…two possible hints that he was better?

There’s this short story from MoP about Gallywix, about how…in one version of a future, he’s the one fighting to give everyone else a chance to leave. He gives up his life to save the few citizens of orgrimmar that survived. This would only happen if everything else went to crap though. He also kinda realizes that he caused the fourth war, but you’re right. He hasn’t shown regret or remorse. Just kinda realized it and shrugged.

Here I am eating my bamboo and rice and you FORGOT us again… Pandaren are not forgettable. Perhaps you think we are so much like your teddy bear that we don’t count = let’s duel - let me help you remember us.

Tell that to Blizzard.

Lui Lang founded Durotar (with 3 others) - Org would not exist without Pandaren.

That’s pretty much what thrall did when he formed the new horde.

I know…but like…can we see some more of that tension? We had a great moment in Mists with the whole garrosh thing - that was a movement back towards war and conquest - but like, how’re things now? They all seem pretty tired of it

Chen helping Rexxar help Thrall found Durotar after Thrall had already founded Orgrimmar is a big leap from “Liu Lang founded Durotar” and a massive leap from “Org would not exist without Pandaren”.

At least you are thinkin, nice =)

I’m sorry? I fail to see how the appearance of a Pandaren as a minor character in the founding of Durotar signifies my political ideology.

Was gonna say - Liu Lang founded the Wandering Isle. Durotar was founded by Chen stormstout, who grew up on the wandering isle - okay I mean if you really go by extension then MAYBE TECHNICAlLLY you could say Durotar as a nation wouldn’t exist without Liu Lang…
