Disrespect is when you use something as a comparison to something that’s not even remotely relevant. The wholesale massacre of a people, even a fictional one IS a valid thing to compare the Holocaust to. What is disrespectful is when a politician compares a social safety net program to the same.
They went into it looking for a fight without actually surveying the situation first
Not personally no but they had their spies.
Again.
They were not forbidden to attack. It was left to them to decide.
I don’t understand why you are so fixated on Genn and Rogers being rogue agents.
They were given their orders with a lot of leeway and they acted to the letter of it.
And by the way. The orders were they were to track them.
They did.
From a safe distance.
They did for a while.
And engaged.
When they judged the situation demanded it.
Before you leave on the mission they say they suspect and expect that it would.
Which could be a just rational considering who they were dealing with…
And just you admitted earlier they were right to do so.
Personally it doesn’t matter to me whether or not they obeyed orders internally, from the outside it looks like the Alliance attacked the Horde unprovoked.
While it’s hilariously hypocritical of the Horde to cry foul, global politics are not about hypocrisy or fairness, so I’m counting it on the tally sheet.
Alliance Moral High Ground Tally:
- Southshore
- Gilneas
- Basically everything the Horde under Garrosh and Sylvanas did, including Theramore, that one druid school tree nobody cares about, that one night elf tree everybody cares about, pretty much all the War of Thorns actually, Brennadam, what’s-his-name Proudmoore getting brainwashed, plus all the nasty brainwashing and Blight stuff the Forsaken have been getting up to since Cata
Horde Moral High Ground Tally:
- …Maybe Taurahe except Baine said it was cool
- Maybe the Purge of Dalaran
- Stormheim
Nice.
The funniest thing about this, though, is the moral high ground of Gilneas includes Sylvanas openly going against orders and breaking Horde laws against development and deployment of the plague, which she was never punished for, while for some reason not being punished for breaking orders was now Saurfang’s point of concern.
Oh certainly, I agree. If I had the story my way, both the Alliance and the Horde would be hypocritical and flawed in ways that make them mutually neither good nor evil. I would actually consider Gilneas my prime, though far from ideal example of a conflict between Horde and Alliance that I enjoy.
Yes, the Horde attacked first, and Sylvanas was using the Blight against Garrosh’s orders, but she didn’t just carpetbomb both the Forsaken and the Gilneans and not care about her own side or twirl her mustache. She feels like she truly has a connection with the Forsaken, the black humor just inherent in how she interacts with Cromush vs. her own Forsaken because obviously the living orc doesn’t understand, silly him…it’s just entertaining. If I’m gonna be doing bad things in a story that I can’t control, then at the very least I want to be entertained. Silverpine Forest remains one of my favorite questing zones for that reason, BfA is one of the worst expansions I’ve ever had to grind my sorry green rear through for the same reason.
GTA 5 doesn’t pause the game every few seconds to remind the player that what they’re doing is not only illegal, but horrible, and that they should feel just terrible because they’re terrible.
BfA did seems to intend to wash away how Sylvanas presented herself in Silverpine, going from:
- Lady Sylvanas Windrunner says: Lordaeron belongs to the Forsaken - always and forever.
to
- Lady Sylvanas Windrunner says: This is no time for sentiment, High Overlord!
and calling Lordaeron “nothing.”
But as Anduin made it clear to Genn upon his return that he had stepped way over the guidelines he was given and Greymane acknowledged it.
But Anduin never publicly rebuked or held him to account. A fact which would play a signficant part in Sylvannas’ persuasion of Saurfang.
Different game,
Different story,
Different writers,
Come to think of it… Different decade as well. ![]()
I guess forever is less than ten years.
Sometimes even a brief moment can seem an unending eternity.
Would explain why Sylvanas doesn’t want to end up back in the Maw.
Would also explain the slain Night Elves who accepted the Val’kyr’s bargain.
Judging by Delaryn still talking about feeling cold and Derek saying he recognizes the hopelessness in the Undead Night Elves as the same he experienced after being raised, the Undead Night Elves might no longer be in a frenzy, but they seem to be in a lethargy state like the Orcs after they were no longer in fel frenzy. The Undead Night Elves might not have been mind controlled, but coming back from the dead has certainly left them pretty messed up.
Especially Sira, who is just a caricature of Cordana, who herself was just a caricature of Maiev.
Maiv’s one of those severe drill seargent types who tends to put her stamp on people.
That sounds like something Samariyu would draw.
It does! I just showed her this haha
How many times do I have to say Genn follow the orders to the letter but not to the spirit of them?
Obviously Andiun would be angry about it but Genn didn’t disobey him so punishing him would not make any sense.
I think everyone would had loved this as well and breed some good storylines for the future as Vanilla did
Also this is one of the main problems with Blizzard writers. They want to make this game some silly kid cartoon that teaches and preaches morality while they treat non human in a racist manner and outright mistreat the player intelligence with such disparity in the narrative
I don’t hate the anti-war message that Blizzard is trying to peddle onto the playerbase. However, maybe in a game called “Warcraft” where players are paying $15/month to beat the crap out of one another, perhaps pooping in the idea of war between the factions is not wise?
Another annoyance is that the truly “pro-war” NPCs have almost exclusively been Horde.
Best we get out of Alliance is, “We should dismantle the Horde.”
Varian/Anduin: “No”
angryAllianceNPC: “ok”
This is why I think an actual gray vs gray faction war would be the best kind, where both sides are allowed to have equal numbers of heroes and villains.
