Don’t over think it, I played with an elderly lady and we lost for 3 hours straight till I was finally able to 1v2 as demo. It’s just a game, have fun.
That’s beautiful Lily, you are such a great person. Very inspiring.
@ OP… If you take nothing else from this thread, take Lily’s statement right here.
At the end of the day, we’re all just gamers playing a game. Always try your hardest, but have fun while you do it.
Sorry, but Lily sometimes really cracks me up with her Bloomsday posts. I don’t want to encourage her…but yeah it is what it is.
1000000% this. You’re not going to gain anything by doing nothing to further your goals.
This is subjective to what you find fun. Do you like PvP? Do you like the idea of instanced PvP in a small scale setting? Do you enjoy teamwork and coordination with partners? Did you enjoy queuing arenas initially?
M+ and Raiding appears to be better for gearing in general. To get PvP gear, you generally need to stay around 1800-2400 to get good ilvl pieces. 1600 (challenger) provides meager yet okayish pieces of gear.
I played this character very casually, and managed to get okayish pieces by capping at combatant bracket at about 80~90ilvl (430-440 bfa) against 120-133ilvl people (465-480) in season 4, and it was really hard to compete against that ilvl gear and full corruption. I wouldn’t recommend arena as a place to gear alone especially if you happen to start mid to late season. I maybe have 250-300 games if you include prepatch and you can look at the gear I got under that time period (which isn’t great).
Overall, you just need to queue and see if you like arena and enjoy it. As stated before, I can q some games with you on my rogue or heals; my btag is up there somewhere.
I suppose I’m just torn.
PvPwise I care more about random BGs and warmode open world PvP. But at the same time i’m told repeatedly those forms aren’t real PvP, that only arena matters, that everything is balanced around high rated 3v3. Particularly whenever I’ve asked for changes that allow mages to be more capable of open world duels and such.
Its gotten to be so much that it’s made me consider arena. Which has brought up all of the baggage that I’ve always had with it in the past.
I just honestly don’t know what to do anymore. I feel like I don’t matter if I’m not a super high key M+ champion or a master arena gladiator. Blizz has reinforced that with their systems in Shadowlands.
Few things to tackle here:
PvP isn’t balanced properly. See how fun season 4 was.
I peak around the BG forum when I’m procrastinating and I see some people saying they don’t like arenas and would rather them removed while others are ambivalent or play both. Unfortunately though, random bgs give really really bad pieces of gear and blizzard is doing a bad job making random bg gear presentable.
Perhaps you could try to find a casual rated bg group that plays for fun; this could be a thing in the new patch possibly, but I have heard that rbgs are dead or w/e; I never dabbled too much into rbgs, so I can’t give a good answer for that.
Now for non arenas being not real pvp, I think the vague response I have for that statement is that there are many forums of PvP, and you should pick the avenue that you find the most fun.
Try something out and see if it works. Progress to do normal raids and low m+ keys, and see if you enjoy it. See if you enjoy arena as well, try not to stress out too much about it.
Fixed. Also you could just do large scale war mode owpvp. I don’t realy recommend doing solo war modes just because you can walk into 1vRaids fairly often, and you can do this without a ton of gear as well.
(edit)
Don’t agonize about what there is that should be done; approach it one step at a time and try stuff out.
RBGs seem interesting except no one seems to do them, rofl. I would still love to one day get my mage tower skin from that.
I find my preferred form of PvP fun, except the game doesn’t respect that and I pretty much just go in there to get trashed, as I don’t have the gear to compete. I’ve turned warmode off for the most part, but I wish I didn’t have to.
I do raid heroic with a kind and forgiving guild, but that gear doesn’t stop an angry mythic raider from smashing my face out in Nazjatar.
I don’t really have a choice. Not all of us are fortunate to have a posse of loyal bodyguards that are willing to follow me around for all of my shenanigans. xD
But I do see what you mean.
Edit: I apologize for being so difficult. I’m just tired of feeling like a loser in this game, and in life for that matter.
I can tell you that I got trashed when I tried to solo the N’Zoth warmode achievement with my gear rofl. I walked into so many groups of 5+ that I pretty much sat in stealth until I had all cooldowns up. And then I would get Alliance slayer, get tracked, and ragequit achievo.
You should be fine with heroic gear, but you should suppliment it with bis pieces.
People usually lfg in large groups for the war mode weeklies, or even just war mode for fun in large groups.
Just trying to offer differing opinions towards your plight! Will edit this in a bit, and look at your gear and see what could be done assuming you heroic raided this season.
Oh yeah, dear gods that was a challenge, lol. Dreaded that so much when I first heard of it. I tried about 5 times to get that legitimately, until I just begged guildmates and friends to come down to Mardivas Retreat and let me gank them. xD
Maybe it’s just me then, but heroic gear doesn’t feel adequate. Especially when other people get to do +15 keys and get pretty much mythic gear from that every tuesday.
Yeah those are pretty fun. I like the CtA Nazjatar and the raid groups just moving back and forth from Mezz to Newhome. I do have fun in PvP in big groups when we’re winning and I’m not getting targeted!
Why would you care for the rating? It doesn’t even matter what rating you’re at, the main point is you enjoy the game.
I checked your gear and you have 0% verse; not one piece of gear you have has versatility, so you’ll just get blown up on contact. I could assume its primarily for PvE because of it, but just in case it isn’t, that’s a strong factor of why you’re facing difficulty this season. Especially if you played before pre-patch where most dps would have 50%+~80%ish verse or full gushing.
I don’t enjoy feeling like a loser, being stuck at a low rating, and getting nothing for it while everyone else gleefully passes me by and gets stronger to destroy me even quicker.
Oh, I honestly did not know Versatility was a good stat. I’ve heard it dismissed as the “stat that thinks its resilience but isn’t” and only a decent stat for a very select few class specs. I just stacked the stats that Icy Veins told me to. I can definitely keep it in mind next expansion though and hang on to that Vers gear.
You’re not going to beat people that has higher exp than you. You have to keep playing and grinding to get to that point. I spent about 1000 games in 2s, and then 300-400 games in 3s to get to 2k. It took a lot of practice, recognition, and hindsight review of past games to get to where I am now, and there is still a mountain ahead of me with a bunch of flaws that I still need to improve on. I think my team would get obliterated by a r1 team, and that’s fine!
At the very least, if you get stuck at challenger rating, you’ll get challenger gear which isn’t really bad. Don’t feel entitled to get higher rating nor discouraged for being low for a while. This is probably the last time I’ll repeat and reiterate this.
Always try to fact check secondary sources with other secondary sources or primary sources (r1 mage representatives). Haste/Verse should be your bis though for next xpac.
In reality, I just want to reach a point where I don’t have to feel cowed into turning warmode off, because the second I step outside of a safe zone any random person can just look in my general direction to destroy me. I want to feel like I have a chance of surviving PvP encounters on my own. I don’t care if it’s through arena or what have you, I’ll take it from anywhere.
That’s really all it is. At the moment I feel like a loser with no place in the world.
what enemy team frames are these? it looks like omnibar built into gladius
That’s Gladius EX; the cooldown display is super nice to just eyeball stuff for me.
Actually this current pvp system prevents new players to join PVP. New players are scared to play pvp because 95% of time, they’re getting one shot. If you’re a low or average ilvl geared toon, you’re like to be oneshot by certain classes like WW, sub, Spriest, MM. Most people have mythic 15 or Nyalotha mythic geared nowadays. So if a new pvp player start an arena, they die instant without knowing what killed them. With the current pvp system of this game, the new players won’t join to play the PVP and i’m pretty sure about it.
Idk if this is troll but maybe you should try a different class if you can’t pvp good on Mage, they are way harder to be successful with and aren’t any more fun then tons of other specs out there
It’s not a troll.
I have considered other classes but they are hard to get into thematically. I just like the wizard fantasy.
I typed out 2 full post of genuine advice didn’t post because i guess this is a troll or some kind of bait from your most recent response.
I’ll leave this tidbit here. Go download gladiatorlossa if you aren’t using it
