I want to like this class

Shaman checks so many boxes for me

  1. Theme
  2. Transmog
  3. Abilities
  4. Spell Effects

But I am struggling so much with overcoming this crazy playstyle. I specifically like Enhance, not a huge fan of elemental. But I feel like I am doing everything right and then suddenly I’ll mess up one keybind and then I am in the total weeds and my rotation is complelety screwed for the entire fight. I know this can boil down to practice the rotation until its perfect. But I don’t think I can handle it. It is extremely fast paced with procs going off every second and I feel like I am doing a ton of damage, but I am consistently at the bottom of the DPS chart. It is so disheartening for me to play…

Idk, I want to play this class so bad. But the more I play it the more frustrated I get.

Shaman can be a pretty complex class. Your assessment is correct, it’s hectic and one miss click can reset your rotation.

You really do have keep at it and play through the mistakes. You’ll get it.

If you are playing totemic enhance, don’t. It can be fun but its extremely hectic and easy to screw up. Stormbringer is way easier for same damage and looks and sound awesome.

Ele has inconsistent damage. Either you break the meters or you do tank damage. Not a big fan on the current playstyle of alternating EQ and EB.

Either way this is a class that really needs WAs to play well. Or at the very least the cooldown manager.

If you are playing Stormbringer Enh properly, it is WAAAY easier to mess up and tank your damage. Totemic is far more lenient on screwups and it’s nowhere close.

I guess I’ve found it opposite. Its seemed way easier on totemic to overcap maelstrom for me.

This describes me and warlock exactly! I gave up on lock cause I’m just terrible with it but it checks all them boxes :frowning:

I agree, I am ench with full gear 682 ilevel still I am bottom of the dps check on raid, in m+ keys even 660 mm hunter doing same dps as me. This class needs to buff, like other class with 2-3 button rotation we have way lot cooldown going on and it makes me honestly not play the class.

Your inability to play the spec properly does not mean it needs buffed.

Check zor thas guide on youtube for stormbringer. The guide is very straightforward, explained step by step.

Enh was more difficult with elementalist build in DF for example. Now is complex too, but one you get used to, is very fun and very good dps too.
But yeah, I agree to that too, one missclick and the rotation could be screwed.

The main purpose of Stormbringer is casting as much Tempest as u posible can. That means building before.

He explained very well and with a little practice u will find good improvement to enjoy the class better.

This is definitely more true of Enhance than Elemental, at least most of the time. Elemental is pretty cooldown dependent right now though, tbh so…

I solve this by mostly playing Resto in group content since I’m better at heals than DPS.

I kinda have to agree.

On paper the class is perfect for me. Melee, ranged, and healer specs. I really enjoy Resto (even if Totemic is a little boring, it’s very effective) and have for years. I love the elemental themes of fire, frost, and lightning…Diablo II sorceress was my favorite class, and Shaman is very close thematically. For a mail class the transmogs are great, too.

But the second I activate one of the DPS specs the class falls apart for me. I don’t enjoy either rotation. Enhance’s rotation isn’t intuitive to me at all. Elemental’s rotation makes more sense to me, but none of the buttons feel particularly great to press. It feels like it takes forever to build up resources, only to press a spender that doesn’t feel impactful at all. And they both have so many buttons and smaller CDs to juggle too.

I also can’t help but feel like the class feels…underdeveloped. Every spec shares a ton of basic spells (flame shock, lava burst, lightning, chain lightning, ascendance, etc)…moreso than most other classes. Every class has overlap, sure, but Shaman feels like the specs share too much between them on a core, fundamental level. For perspective, Frost and Unholy DK might share stuff like Death Strike, but their core/basic rotations are wildly different spells and abilities…

I have such a hard time sticking to shaman because of this. Even swapping to DPS for basic world content just kills the fun for me. I can play resto all day and night for keys and raid, but I want to like the CLASS, not just one spec. :wilted_flower:

I mean, the art is the same between specs, yeah. But, between Ele and Enh, your abilities are directly flip-flopped: Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, Lava Burst are builders for Ele while they’re spenders for Enh - this delivers on two completely unique specs while remaining thematically true to the class. I do agree that, currently, you’re basically melee lightning man or ranged lightning man. A lot of players found enjoyment in Season 3 and Season 4 of DF Elemental via the mass Lava Burst playstyle - maybe something like this would facilitate that thematic difference you’re itching for?

I feel like the core spells and abilities for enh/ele definitely have variance.

Ascendance is even a weird one to reference as overlap, since they work so differently for each. The only thing making them the same is name and cosmetics.
