If it’s a toggle, then I don’t see why not.
The Diablo 2 remake allows you to toggle between the original and the HD version. That said, this feels like a feature that would be better with a Classic+ experience.

I don’t not want retail models in the game. I mean, my preference is for the aesthetic that the original game provides but ultimately I don’t care what you like.
However, I think it would be a non-trivial amount of work to bring that into the game and make it switchable, which would be resources that might otherwise take away from things I do want to see in the game.
Maybe they will do it one day though!
The animations are horrendous. I know they tried to alleviate the ‘bouncy run’ but it’s still prevalent and takes me out of the game.
Classic still reigns supreme when it comes to running animations. Even virtually all other MMORPGs, newer ones included, do not portray running in a convincing manner. It always feels like one is sliding along a slippery plane rather than trudging through land.
As mentioned by the OP, they just need an option to switch between retails updated visuals.
Personally I think this will be great and something that they should invest into trying to do.
Classic to me wasn’t about the visuals (we need to remember that’s the best we had 18-15 years ago), it was the gameplay and community that truly made WoW feel great, the focus on leveling, a slower paced game, gear, professions, classes and players/friends you met on the way all meant so much more. Randomly buffing and healing players in the open world, partying up just to get even the most simplest of quests done. That’s classic, that’s the classic experience I remembered and fell and still love to this day.
Visuals we have are great and currently some people love the older nostalgia hit it brings, some people even prefer it way more then current retail’s visuals, the OP isn’t trying to take that away from anyone, having an option just gives more players choice that wont change a thing for those who prefer classic how it is currently.
Personally I agree with a option to switch visuals (more so just for character models and spell visuals), I’m not running WoW on my IBM Pentium 4 PC anymore, while true at first the visual nostalgia hit was amazing even for myself, it has run its course.
What compromise?
They don’t exist at all in vanilla. And they won’t exist in vanilla.
Yes yes yes. Make it a toggle option for sure. Don’t know why so many dislike the ability to give people more options and would rather force other players to play how they like to play, but oh well…
Hehe ty and you liking them separate is ok too.
I could go though for a chicken sandwich that be good. You like chicken sandwiches?
I don’t want my characters being viewed as whatever abominations the Retail model conversion would make them appear as.
And apparently no one clamoring for new models has deigned to think on how clashing and jarring new player models in an otherwise unchanged Classic WoW would look.
Y’all really can’t stand the idea that some people want a client-side toggle that in no way affects your client.
Ya’ll really can’t understand that this also existed and was terrible, also we don’t want retail graphics in vanilla in any form, regardless if its toggle-able or not.
So like, any time someone on retail goes to an older zone? Like BC and Wrath zones. It’s not as catastrophic as you are making it out to be holy cow lol
Why does someone’s client-side changes bother you that much? Who hurt you that you need to control other people’s idea of fun and aesthetically pleasing?
Who hurt you to believe that you want retail graphics (which should be considered an entirely different product / game) in vanilla?
Why does it matter what I believe?
If you can give me one good reason why a client-side toggle impedes YOUR gameplay or game aesthetic, I’ll drop it.
go back to talking about chicken.
Believe it was more of an animation/bone conflict in retail why they eventually scrapped the old models being able to be toggled.
If they brought it back and set the new models to perform only the animations that old models could perform it shouldn’t conflict and players could choose what they prefer.
This being said, if conflict still occurs then the default should be the older models used imo.
Just no pickle.
I will gladly have the pickles you don’t want!
I like extra pickles XD haha
I’d like to see more screenshots!
The modern models are quite a bit worse for a lot of the races, but the biggest loser is Worgen. The Feral Worgen in Silverpine look incredibly dark and scary, whereas the modern Worgen look like someone’s Fursona. Undead are also a big loser when it comes to updated models.
One of the few that I don’t mind so much is Human Females, several of the new faces for them look quite good. However, I find the older style to be a lot more timeless looking, whereas I actually find the new models to look more dated than the originals at this point.
The beauty of Classic is no one either plays for the graphics or the majority loves the original graphics. And then there’s me who is all of the above and I find retail graphics unbearable Disney abominations that don’t capture any of the spirit of their originals.
Classic plus is probably wonderful for Blizz, I imagine any art updates will be a drop in the hat compared to retails rumored world revamp.
