I wanna learn how to tank

I’ve heard good things about DH, which is also supposed to be easy to play from what I’ve read. Blood is supposedly S tier, but everything else is A or A+… so it’s not a huge difference as far as power goes.

Most (All?) of the tanks are pretty close together right now. This is really one of the only times in the game someone can legitimately say “Pick the one you like the best” and it’s actually good advice.

If your new to it the Meta will probably change by the time it would even matter anyways.
Just have fun with it and if it’s not for you then that’s that.

Like anything there’s all sorts of vagaries and little secrets you’ll pick up, but don’t worry about that… just pick what you like.

Paladin is the most fun tank for me because it’s basically playing whack-a-mole. And Avenger’s Shield is hilariously fun.

Install classic, and play a warrior up until blackrock depths, once you master tab targeting mid combat and selective threat management based on HP bars of enemy (and their DPS, and abilities, this require spatial awareness before, during, and after pulls) you are set for the rest. But

TLDR = gather everything, use the AOEs you have, or conal abilities, ensure healer is safe, and spam combos.

Tanking is the easiest role in the game, there isn’t a whole lot to learn until you hit high Mythic+. Raid tanking alone is probably the most boring aspect of the entire game. One of the major reasons why it seems like there are so few tanks is just because of how boring it actually is lol.

I was pretty much in the same boat as you. Leveled a tank to max as tank spec, it taught me what all my abilities do and when to use them. At max I ran through every dungeon on normal mode to learn routes and mechanics and I made my way up from there. Still can’t stomach mythic plus but that’s not a big deal to me. A lot of people cry about toxicity but tbh I’ve had very few people get toxic over a wipe or anything while I was running dungeons.

Level as a tank running dungeons.
Watch some PoV videos of tanks.
Read/watch some guides. They arn’t perfect, but for a beginner they will still be valuable.

As for class, Druid is probably the easiest. Paladins are fun and easy to get into, but there is a big skill curve at higher keys.

As everyone has said, start at level 1. It becomes much easier to get into the role than it would be to boost into a tank.

As for class, I suggest druid. Imo, it has the easiest curve to learn and is straightforward in the end game.

Make sure you have thick skin.

You will be bombarded with insults, stressed out with bad DPS who refuse to let you pull at a pace YOU are comfortable with, and blamed for everything that goes wrong with the run (even though 90% of the time it is DPS’ fault).

You will quickly find that many DPS players only care about stroking their DPS meters, and if it isn’t as big as they think it is, they blame you for their inadequacies.

Hurray, adding one more tanks to the pool. We need more players want to be a tank.

Tanks are always in demand. Start with doing regular dungeons. You’ll almost always get invited. If people are toxic to you just leave and que up again. Before you know it you will know how to tank and being invited to all types of content.

Tanking is just dpsing when you first start out. Make sure to read your spells and jump in.

A level 10 brewmaster is not squishy.

Some have already said, but yes start a new character and tank the classic stuff first. In level sequence if possible. Expansion dungeons are kind of gimmicky and low level toons might not have enough tools to deal with them as a beginner.
I’d recommend prot paladin to start with since many hard hitting abilities are ranged and you don’t need stuff like rage or runic (gained from melee abilities) to keep your mitigation active
M+ stuff can be learned when you are comfortable with your spec I supposed (I don’t dabble in those too much so i don’t have much say in it)

Probably be best to learn to tank with a group of friends. I’d try to make some as a DPS.

No one is going to want to participate with you learning the game unfortunately. Expect many insults and group kicks tanking random PUGs.

I hate it’s like that but this community is garbage.

Good luck to you though!

Best way to learn is…roll a new character that is the race/ class you want to tank on…level to first dungeon level …horde different than alliance obviously.
Then start tanking … everything…let people know that you are new at it…listen to people complain a lot about everything…read guides…watch…how to tank videos on youtube…do more dungeons…you will be pro by the time your 60.

Not everyone is like that…some people are understanding

Please send your herbologist my way because I need whatever fueled this comparison.

First step is to turn off group chat when you start to tank.
