I Truly Miss The Nostalgia WoW Used to Give Me

That’s not true, at all.

Yes and no. There was a lot of idiocy already, but it drastically increased after the influx, particularly wave two when the iphone came out and social media took off. Because someone will ask, wave one was AoL and Windows 95.

It sort of sounds to me like you had more fun as a teenager, interacting with with other teenagers than as an adult interacting with other adults.

When I was a little child, everyone used to smile at me and greet me. People don’t seem as friendly now. And those who do often just want me to buy something.

I disagree. Society has shifted significantly since 2005, world cultures are continually changing. Computers and internet has made an enormous impact on how we view the world and each other. It’d be interesting to come back in the distant future to see what becomes of mankind.

let’s not pretend that we had the in-depth knowledge we have now back in 05

i blame moderation becoming too strict for the lack of social interaction. i havnt seen anybody call someone the nword in years and all i do is pvp.

and we call ourselves gamers? sad

How awful for you.

Hardcore is the best version I’ve played since 2004 Vanilla. I agree that 2019 Classic was not the same and Hardcore is the closest we’ve got to the original experience. I think it’s thanks to the changes to Classic that made this game feels like an MMORPG again. The limitation to things only daily dungeons before lv60 and no boosting has done a great job in making the open world feel alive again.

From what I remember, most of the people I played WoW with back in the day were pretty nerdy, university students or grads, not 40 year old 420bros that seem to make up a large part of the player base today.

I also feel like I am probably less sociable as I age than I was back in 2005.

Not to mention that I used default keybinds in WoW until just before ToGC came out in Wrath. I remember reading a lot on TankSpot, or EJ about how significant of an improvement it could be to gameplay, and some suggested making a spreadsheet with skills and mapping it to keybinds, based on how often you used the skills and how close the binds were.

I remember planning it out for a week, leading up to a weekend where I implemented it and spent as much time in BGs (fast, inconsequential gameplay) where I could commit my binds to muscle memory.

There’s still a bunch of 20 year old college types playing WoW, they’re the ones doing M+ and mythic raiding and arena in retail and/or playing in sweat guilds on classic. You’re an old fogie so your friends are also old fogies and you play classic WoW with old fogies reliving their glory days.

back then you didnt watch step-by-step guides and didnt minmax.

The first WoW video I ever watched was Daddar the Undead Rogue of Goonsquad killing the Ironforge bankers and then vanishing into the night. What an amazing video.

Maybe you didn’t because you were bad. People absolutely did min/max.

The job of Blizz is to create a viable game and to listen to expressed customer needs.

But the responsibility for how we feel - falls upon us.

If your intent is to feel good about what HC is - then focus on the good.

Be mindful that those of us who played in 2004 or 2005 were atypical. We were “early adopters” and as such many (but not all) of us were quite privileged. Some of us realized that, some not.

But regardless of our degree of awareness, we are now not only encountering a much broader demographic today but also new realities in society as a whole.

Few things are as they were in 2004.

But today we can still make the best of what we have - and appreciate that. Many around the world don’t have access to anything remotely like this.

We are still quite privileged and have every reason to appreciate what we have (if we want to)

explains why they’re posting on lowbie alts…

They play with their eyes closed.

This implies you have had a time machine before. What did you do with it?
