Oh man that’s funny as FF14 shills continuously blast WoW on WoW forums and promote FF14
i want a legend of zelda MMO
That cant work because not everyone can be Zelda.
I have a beard IRL. FF14’s lack of beard options is pretty sad. I do have a beard in the game but I had to choose a specific face of a specific race to have one.
It isn’t like there aren’t beards in the game. One of the main characters Cid has a normal full beard.
At least that’s potentially actionable data. You can see what players are dissatisfied with here and features that they enjoy on the other side.
When you bash another MMO on these forums… what does that tell you? Absolutely nothing. I may as well rant about my dishwasher conking it - it’s irrelevant data when trying to gather player feedback.
Yeah, that’s a legitimate critique. And since beards are restricted to specific faces, you’re often stuck with one - maybe two - options to choose from before you work backwards, designing your character around that beard.
I played FF14 the year Realm Reborn cam out(2013? 2014?) and that was pretty much it. I find it a little disingenuous that you compared hundreds of hours of WoW, a game you know you love, to the limited trial version of a game for an evening.
I’d be willing to bet that over the last 6 or 7 years there are things that FF14 have been able to do that are way better than WoW… and there are some things that WoW likely does better than FF14…
WoW is my game of choice. I’ll admit that. If fact, if Blizzard announced they were shutting WoW down I might actually quit MMOs. To be completely honest, I’m disanointed that I didn’t fully quit back in January 2015 during BRF in WoD when my favorite guild fell apart. Now all I really do is pug things and farm gold. It keeps me entertained, but not like it used to.
Yeah… suffice it to say, Blizzard should not view my subscription as an endorsement. It remains because I have sunk so much into the game that I want to preserve. My guild, character names, etc. All in the vain hope that, someday, maybe… the game will return to a form that I enjoy more fully, and more importantly, will entice those I used to play with to give it another shot.
WoW does WoW best… but it has become so myopically focused on that endgame loot treadmill that it forgot about every other possibility. To the point that, even when they do introduce new facets of gameplay, they tie it into that loot treadmill and kneecap its potential.
FFXIV has breadth. It does not have the raiding scene that WoW does. And it never will. In fact, they just cut an “Ultimate” raid (essentially their Mythic tier) because of the strain COVID put on their resources. They didn’t cut story, nor their casual relic grind zones, nor whatever else - they cut the raid. It literally “cost a raid tier” to continue with the casual content flow, which should tell you precisely where their priorities are.
This!
Me and a friend were bored so we decided to give it a try over the weekend. The character customization and story line were nice at the beginning but the fact that we couldn’t group together was a big downer. We played for about 30 minutes because of this and moved on to play something else.
I understand you can group if you sub to the game but we wanted to try it out before we commit to putting money into it. The fact that we couldn’t play together dissuaded us from playing it.
From what I did play, it was a nice change but the combat system seemed clunky compared to WoWs. Though the player housing and open world interactions were nice.
Thanks for the post OP. I’ve been on the fence about playing it because i’m bored with WoW. Based on your WoW and FFXIV review, i don’t think it’s a game i will enjoy.
I don’t know why people are complaining about this being in the WoW forums. I think it’s very informative to WoW players that are considering FFXIV.
WoW functions more as a kill sim, FFXIV functions more as an MMORPG If there’s one thing I learned from leveling to max level in FFXIV it’s that I enjoy the kill sim that is wow and could care less for the RPG elements.
