Nah not really, the novels clearly contradicted Sylvanas intentions post BFA, during Legion there wasnt any nonsense regarding her being the Jailerâs dog.
In it Sylvanas has an inner monologue which states she didnt wanted to be Warchief and regretted Volâjinâs death, which is the complete opposite to her current portrayal
Really wish they wouldnât leave so much of the lore and story to the books >.<

Sylvanas lies to everyone else like a rug, I find it completely in character for her to lie to herself. The Jailer thrives on exactly these kind of tortuous rationalizations. (Remember what set Devos against the Archon? The Jailer helping kill Uther. And yet her Forsworn have done nothing but help the Jailer, because heâs an expert at manipulating people that way and twisting their intentions into his goals.)

what i dont like is how they showed zovaal. it was cooler when the jailer was still a figure in shadows as like during the shadowland reveal trailer⌠however his current iteration that we see walking around, I have a feeling that may just be an avatar, while the true jailer is still bound/chained up, as back when Shadowlands was leaked, such as the name of the expansion, logo, etc, (which turned out to be 100% accurate/true) the same leaks included a picture of the jailer which looks nothing like the current jailer (Zovaal) we see currently in-game:
Which 100% matches the Jailer we saw in the reveal trailer (shoulder armor design matches exact, etc):
unlike Zovaal who looks nothing like the leaked image of the jailer nor the cinematic jailer:
So I have a feeling Zovaal is merely a stand in for the true jailer, like one of his minions carrying out his wishes or simply an avatar, especially if the Jailer is a titan-level or beyond entity, and we know titans are more than capable of creating/using avatars (i.e. Avatar of Sargeras) or constructs (i.e. Titan Watchers) to carry out their plans and/or to serve as an intermediary on a smaller scale.

No, actually they simply used the old design cause his design wasnt finished yet.
Basically they used concept design due to time constrains.
I didnât like Blizzardâs attempt of GoT story telling in BfA.
Still a better ending than season 8.

The ONLY thing that could make the Jailor better is more nips.

Thereâs two ways they could have taken the Jailer and the way theyâve done it so far is Not It.
The biggest issue currently with his story is that we donât know anything about him. Cool, we know the others banished him to be the Jailer of the Maw. Why? He was able to explain to Devos and Denathrius and Sylvanas as to why heâs right and they should join him. So why isnât he trying to recruit us? Sylvanas has known the player character for years. Especially if you sided with her during BFA, why would she not consider you a valuble asset?

Yea I kinda agree and I love this idea. Having him only really show himself later into the expansion and having to rally Azeroth AND the shadowlands together wouldâve made him seem a lot more menacing and powerful than he seems to be atm.
The issue with him is that we were introduced to him like immediately, and we got no suspense of him showing his power/influence or his crazy plan to take over the shaodwlands. It was kinda like âHey Iâm the bad guy I can put people in chains.â
As others have said itâs possible there is a bigger bad than him and heâs just an underling, but i donât think thatâs what theyâre going for. Love this idea tbh and it sucks they didnât go this route.

Incoming: A long Idea of What I think could make an interesting Expansion.
While we have been toiling away in the Shadowlands trying to save the machine of death, In the absence of our Faction Leaders, the Order of the Light has arisen. Initially they stamped down and rid the undead scourge, released when the helm was shattered, from Azeroth. Bolstered by their success, and the conviction of their faith they believed themselves the saviors of Azeroth. They began to preach that Azerothâs leaders and Heroes had abandoned Azeroth and the Light to serve death. A resurected Yrel, Calia and Turalyon have spearheaded the fanatical devotion to the Light throughout Azeroth. They have spread their influence far and wide, largely taking control of all of Azeroth. Believing in supreme devotion to the light and to renounce all other beliefs, The Order of the Light rules with and iron fist. Imprisoning, banishing and âPurifyingâ any dissent or disobedience.
All capital cities in Azeroth are now under control of the Order of the Light. They patrol the streets as the Army of the Faithful. Subjugating the citizens to follow their beliefs. The cities are all hostile to us when we return. Towns like gadgetzan and booty bay, are also under control of the Order of the Light. The goblins have been driven out, and taken their Black Market dealings to large city ships, which move around the coasts of the continents. (These are our new main cities for the expansion. They have Class and profession halls. Auction and Banking ect.) We must learn more of the Order of the Light. We need to infiltrate our cities and discover what the order is up to. (The new 5man dungeons are infiltration missions through our cities and towns.)
Azerothâs citizens, lacking guidance and leadership from their leaders. The absence of the Heroes of Azeroth (Us). Have turned to the Order of Light for guidance. Some follow in blind faith. Others follow in fear. Small groups of resistance operate in secret hoping to join and help the resistance.
The bulk of the old zones would be changed for the expac. Not completely redesigned. The Order of Light has forced not only Azerothâs citizens to flee, but changed the natural order of zones. Zones surrounding the capital cities, are areas where The Order of the Light are building their army and training their troops. Also having encampments where they âEducateâ non-believers. Further out zones, have seen the creatures of Azeroth flee to. Centaurs, Ogres, Gnolls, Murlocks have all formed their strongholds in other zones. Due to the tyranny of the Order of The Light, tribes have formed together and now are a threat to us. Many of the Old zones have changed to reflect this, and are now threatening and dangerous to us. But there is something different about how strong these foes have gotten. Something unnatural about their increased intelligence, and strength. Becoming united and now an actual threat within their new found zones doesnt add up.
We return from the Shadowlands expecting to be lauded as heroes as usual. Instead we are captured and imprisoned by The Order of The Light. We are taken before The leaders of The Order and Yrel purges us of the taint of the shadowlands. (Inevitable Removal of the Covenant Abilities and Soulbind Systems). We are then thrown into prison. En-route to an âEducation Campâ some resistance fighters attempt to free us. We fight our way free and flee with them. We then make it to One of the 2 or 3 Giant Booty Bay/Goblin Ships off shore and begin to learn about what truly has happened. From here we must form a guerilla fighting force to battle the Order of The Light. Venture into zones to discover what is behind the changes to the lesser beings of Azeroth. Infiltrate our capital cities, to learn what The Order of Light really is. Discover disturbing secrets and practices of their âEducation Campsâ.

The jailer looks ridiculous.
They shouldnât have shown him.
If he was just a pair of disembodied eyes in his pop-up dialogue boxes, and all we ever heard was the spooky voice, he would have been a lot more menacing.

I forgot about him tbh. Too busy thinking when the hell will Sylvanas die so we can get some possibly good story telling someday.
We had that with Sargeras mostly. My hope would be that Blizzard starts planting the seeds of his return this expansion and the next one (Dragon Isles) to follow up with an expansion that wraps up the Space War and ends climaxes with a battle with Sargeras in a proper sense.
Thatâs more that his design looks like hot garbage though. Iâm still holding out hope that this is simply his âfirst formâ and heâs going to wear his Domination armor or something later in the expansion.
