I think it would be cooler if Dracthyr turned into ACTUAL Dragons

i always thought if they ever did add dragons, they would be humanoid but with a special cooldown dragon form basically. i think HotS has a dragon unit that does that, i forget if it’s deathwing or alex. basically just turn into a dragon temporarily in combat for a burst phase, and/or flying or whatever. personally i think it would be way cooler than the forms we’re getting, i can’t find a single thing i like about them

Actual dragons? Like bursting out of our computers to flame my cheap apartment? And then saying, “hop on” and taking me to Candyland. Yeah, I’d like that.

its actually possible right now, ive done it multiple times, but it takes some finagling

get someone with the tarecgosa staff, have them turn into a dragon, then have someone use a reflecting prism on them, now youre a dragon even in combat

also works with the sandstone drake

i havent noticed anything wrong with the hitboxes so i think they keep your race’s dimension

but it gets very annoying for other players (especially when i use mirror images :3c)

Annoying is right xD

I already have a tantrum when we bring a SMN to prog on FFXIV and half of my screen gets covered by Titan’s giant butt.

This is honestly my fear. Blizzard has, unfortunately, proven to be pretty stubborn about things in the past.

The Dragonflight reveal and initial batch of interviews seemed very committed to saying “We’ve changed! We’re totally listening to feedback this time around!”. And we’re seen this same song and dance before. Multiple times.

To me, this is Blizzard’s first real test to prove whether or not they actually mean it, or if it’s back to “business as usual”. Even if making them proper (albeit small) dragons may sound a bit fatfetched, it’s pretty clear that NOBODY was super into the look that was initially shown off.

because you cant have a full blown dragon ride a vehicle or a mount, it would look like the Dragon is trying to mate with it.

That’s all encounters need, giant lizards blocking everyone. Not to say the hell inns, mailboxes and any other area will be.

They’ve already said they won’t mount up in “Dracthyr” form, either. That you’ll switch to your “visage”.

Like I said; the current plan really is the WORST of both worlds.

Giving us actual dragon-looking DRAGONS – again, scaled-down to be player-sized – would be genuinely exciting. And yeah, they can totally use their Visage form to use mounts. Or their TRUE form as a mount-form, as well.

As long as they’re scaled-down, I really don’t imagine them being any more annoying than Worgen in Running Wild (mount form), or various Druid forms. Tail and wings might be a little more prominent, but still totally doable.

You could even make those features a little more dynamic, having the wings grow to full-size ONLY when actively using them for flight, same with the tail or even claws for relevant attacks.

no they wouldnt, nobody wants to play a Feral Dragon that is just a little bigger than a Whelpling, i’m fine with the current Dracthyr and if you have a problem with them, then dont roll one.

They are. There are many types of dragons from different cultures. While i think they could use some work on the models, satisfying everyone’s desire for each style of dragon throughout the world’s cultures is a bit silly.

They’re going to be stuck in “True form” most of the time they’re in combat anyways. And there’s really no way to gauge what players would prefer; a humanoid version, or a dragon-looking version. What I CAN tell you, is I’ve frequented these and many other forums, and while everyone seems pretty keen on the IDEA of the Dracthyr Evoker, pretty much everyone had negative impressions on how they LOOK.

I mean, if you can’t transmog them, you can’t even have them ride mounts… well, it’s virtually the exact same restrictions as a Druid. So instead of some goofy-looking, humanoid lizard-people hybrid, why not look like an ACTUAL dragon of some sort?

True. But in no culture have dragons ever looked like “lizard-people”.

My thing is more that, at least as INITIALLY shown, they don’t look very “Warcraft-y”. They don’t mesh with the “look” of the game. That can ABSOLUTELY still be addressed, even without making them “proper dragons”. But if they’re going to possess all of these restrictions they’ve spoken about, then I wonder, why not just embrace the idea fully, and make them LOOK more like real dragons?

Because as it stands, they’re literally just naked lizard-people. And that looks weird.

Whomever thought of this new race Dracthyr should be fir… thanked. :grimacing: Yes thank you.

That’s honestly pretty cool. I don’t remember seeing those, but it is interesting the bottom-left image does appear a bit more “humanoid”.

Still, those drawings also have a much more “Warcraft” aesthetic to them, that I think the Drakthyr shown do not. Even in that top image, if you remove the “fin” or whatever from the neck, I could totally see that guy being able to stand upright if needed.

Like I said, I just don’t want to see us wind up with a middle-ground that doesn’t feel as fleshed-out as it ought to. If the Drakthyr are lizard-people, then it really doesn’t compute that they would need to be limited on transmogs, or that they are REQUIRED to use their Visage form when riding mounts.

Making them more akin to ACTUAL dragons, though, and I think you really then get the best of both worlds.

I presented it without commentary just to see where people would fall without injecting my own commentary. My stance falls similarly to your own: Drac’thyr are draconic, but they are missing much of the original WarCraft style. They’re missing that primal edge. There shouldn’t be anything “huggable” about their draconic form.
