I personally am glad that I don’t play at higher levels of competitive play. I get to enjoy all the Covenants without worrying. Though truthfully I’ll likely be spending most of my time in Ardenweald because it looks the absolute most interesting.

Why don’t we just unlock all the racials while we’re at it, because after all, if I want a Gnome with berzerking why can’t I have it?? I shouldn’t have to be locked into the Gnome’s racials, that reduces my player agency! And just unlock all the gear and spells too! Daggummit if I want a plate wearing Gnome mage with berzerking I should be able to do so! Blizzard is FORCING ME TO CHOOSE and that is WRONG!

That would be cool too. Locking them to one covenant is the real problem. If we can deal with that then the covenant system seems like it’ll be pretty great.

The power levels aren’t close together just by nature of the abilities. Warriors for example, each covenant ability has a very clear niche based on the content that they’ll excel in.
Spear will be best suited to PvP
Execute will be best suited to raid bosses
Banner will be best suited to m+
Will each of them work in most forms of content? Yeah, probably. But there are definitely right and wrong choices in the context of player power here.

So people are supposed to be fine with being told that choosing a covenant wouldn’t negatively affect gameplay and then we get one ability that more or less defines a spec at this point.

This whole system is even WORSE for Roleplayers because of covenant crap being heavily associated with your character + soulbinds.

If they never rebalance the covenant abilities than i have no problem whatsoever.
If they however nerf into the ground the covenant i have chosen for spec synergy and buff another covenant ability, then that is not “player Agency” that is a bait and switch.
and my only issue is that we know for a fact your “launch BiS Covenant” is going to get nerfed.

It only “negatively affects gameplay” if you are part of the players that just wanna milk out all the numbers from their abilities as they can. If you are not part of those people, then you’re probably fine. If you don’t mind a small DPS loss at the advantage of a unique ability that likely you are the only person to have in the entire raid, then this won’t negatively affect you in the way you think it may.

Nah it’s a choice. It’s your choice to go after the numbers so that you can optimize your class. If you decide to forgo the numbers for gameplay or aesthetic reasons, then that is also your choice too. So yes, it is very much a choice.

Player agency bs again. They’re overcomplicating it all. Just give us talent trees that aren’t cookie cutter no-brain choices.
These systems on top of system are getting real old. We lose a bunch, we gain a bunch. Same thing each expansion, and the launch feels terrible with your character going backwards. It completely breaks some specs.
