I ruined my life with WoW because i was addicted

Read my comment. Im only calling you names if your agreeing with the people being dicks to a guy giving a cautionary tail about addiction.

I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas

Are you aware dopamine is an addictive chemical released by the body when doing something you enjoy? And that addiction has been shown to be a trait that can be passed down genetically? What has actually happened is that research has been done and the definition of addiction has changed, just like every other form of medical advancment. Or do you think we should go back to treating people with electroshock therapy instead? Fields of study are bound to evolve, and change definitond. Youre just too uneducated to understand that things in the worl evolve and change with time.

That’s so great for you! Not everyone has that discipline once they cross a line into uncontrollable addiction. It’s not WoW specifically that people become addicted to. It’s the feeling and sense of escape and security that playing a game like WoW provides.

OP didn’t put any of his situation and mistakes on the game, he actually took ownership and responsibility for where he is.

Millions of people drink alcohol responsibly. The fact that they are not addicted to alcohol does not invalidate the very real struggle of alcoholism experienced by others. Before people respond with something like people “addicted” to WoW are idiots or you can’t be addicted to a video game or some crap like that, reread my earlier statement above. People don’t become addicted to WoW specifically. That’s like saying that someone is addicted to Budweiser. Of course, that’s absurd, people become addicted to what happens in their body when they partake of certain activities. That chemical input in their brains can come from substances as much as it can from external activities such as playing a game or running, etc.

Are you ADHD ?

My thoughts exactly. I’m gonna quit soon, been playing way too long.
Nobody cares about a random joe schmo leaving

The funny thing is if you do the Google search you asked me to do it specifically says substance abuse disorder. Like, you gave me proof that you are full of crap.

Im jewish bro

That is not accurate. The expansion in the definition of addiction in the DSM happened not because addiction treatment is profitable, but because science has allowed a better understanding of addiction, where it comes from, and how to treat it.

An addiction is anything that you cannot stop doing on your own. Period.

Food addiction is REAL.
Adult content addiction is REAL.
World of Warcraft addiction is REAL.

Live in la-la land all you want.

You cared enough to comment rudely on their post.

Wait, you’re telling me, that everything we knew years ago isnt 100% true? I thought the way science worked was that as soon as we figure it out, it never changes?

I’ve never met a Jewish family that didn’t celebrate Christmas. In your case, happy Hanukkah. Best wishes to such a nice guy.

He’s addicted to replying to you.

ROFL, as a troll at heart myself I enjoy interactions such as that. Probably not the best thing to admit… :flushed:

BUT some things should not be used to troll.

Addiction is when you play wow all day because you need to. Addiction isn’t about what you do so much as why you do it. When want becomes need, you’re moving toward addiction.

Well just because you havent met them doesnt mean they dont exist? And im not nice, im kind to people who deserve it. Theyre different

For some people, if it isn’t WoW, it’s going to be something else they’ll get addicted to. I think we all have things we spend too much time doing (watching TV or social media for example). If we learn how to prioritize the things that are important (family, job, human relationships, getting outdoors, etc), then we’ll know when it’s time to put the games on a back burner. If anyone has gotten far enough to read this message, just know that the bonds you form with people outside of this game will be 100x more beneficial than just chatting on a screen virtually. Take some time to make irl friends; you’ll thank yourself for it.
