It’s really cool. Maybe soon we’ll get Med’an canonized next?
Honestly, I personally never had any issue with Me’dan and do seriously want him to be part of the lore/game. If you want to get rid of someone from the lore, then at least actually have the courage to kill them ingame rather then just retcon them out!
They’ve been going back to the poisoned Shadowlands well since Dragon Flight. They’re doing that thing where they dig in their feet and die on that hill. Kind of like the decade long tanty they threw over flight and pathfinder.
They never left the Shadow Lands behind. It’s pretty fundamental for the story they’re intend to tell.
Shadowlands was a soft reset attempt for the setting after the game got fully hijacked by people who hate the old WarCraft setting, of course they will bring it up at every opportunity, the only reason it’s not featured even more is the extreme backlash against it by pretty much everyone, even my friends who don’t read quests, have dialogue turned off and skip cinematics make fun of SL.
They’ve already confirmed that Me’dan’s existence is canon, just not his guardianship. He’s just off … somewhere … doing … something.
aside from this latest bit with Sylvannas, what other SL references have been in the story since DF? I’m asking because I feel like i may have missed these and was under the assumption blizz was letting that lore rest know how little many of us cared for it.
There was a quest at the end of TWW as a setup for Midnight where visit the Maw to try and recruit Sylvanas, and in her Stay a While she mentions how the Shadowlands feels mechanical and well…Ordered.
Tavazesh and Brokers in TWW are a big one.
As for DF itself, the Amirdrassil entirely.
now I feel dumb. I guess I did forget that the seed that Amirdrassil spawned from originated from ardenweald and was a gift from the winter queen plus Ysera makes an appearance if I remember right and she’s basically an ardenwealed entity at this point. Ven’ari is all over the place in the latter part of TWW so yea,I’m a dumb bumb. Thanks for the help. LOL
But why hold on to Me’dan? They love retcons and have removed characters from the setting before (remember Gunther Arcanus?)
gunther is still a thing.
You’re asking me to explain Blizzard’s thought process? lol ![]()
Good.
/10chars
Isn’t Gunther Arcanus still chillin in Tirisfal Glades?
Because he is like Arator in all of the worst ways.
you gotta remember that Mid BFA development most of the original writing team had been replaced and very few of the original writing team remain.
These new writers were predominately women and Danuser did a hard pivot with the direction of the story away from the war story and basically moving the story to a singular story to simplify it and make it easier to writer.
Now we are stuck with a shoddy writing team that basically doesn’t want to writer Horde or alliance just one unified story where it’s all positive and educational. They cannot write entertaining stories for factions as they don’t know how.
I had hope after they sacked Danuser and Golden from writing team and brought back Metzen but short or scrapping the whole writing staff who are involved with the main plot there little chance they story improves.
But think about how hard it will go when we actually have to destroy the Shadowlands? What better way to fix a problem? Smash it to bits.
im 99,99£% sure we wont destopry them
we will just beat up amanthul becuase he kept whinign abotu MUH ORDER!!!
And then sylvannas will be like the most idela judge ever for afetrlife that will be ehr '‘redemption’
Honestly speaking, I’d rather Med’an be canon than fester-heap of retcons and ruinous world building to the Warcraft universe that is the Shadowlands expansion ![]()
Was Gunther a hard retcon or just “not appearing since classic” retcon? Because, while not including him is worthy of criticism, I don’t think we should be meeting Blizzard half way and assuming any characters not mentioned for x amount of time are retconned.
Unrelated but similar case with Illidan doing slavery in Outland being considered “retconned” because it hasn’t been mentioned, even though Blizzard never really retconned it.
