I really don't understand what Solo players want

I’ll list what I would like to see for Solo players.

First and foremost, no timers! I hate false urgency content design.

-Torghast/Mage Tower (style) scaling difficulty content which rewards gear relevant to difficulty… Procedural solo dungeon basically… This would top out with the same I-lvl drop from Mythic Raid to max M Plus content… So a few I-lvl Lower than Max M Plus gear given the difficulty is tuned high enough to challenge the most prepared and experienced player.

Add a solo dungeon leader board for fastest/highest levels completed with cosmetic rewards for the higher tiers for those that want to “go fast”.

I’m going to guess a bunch of people are going to flip out and say everyone hated Torghast blah blah blah… It didn’t reward gear so yeah, I did it a few times and quit. I didn’t really participate in the Horrific Visions because I hate timed runs of anything. I like preparation, quick reaction time and strategy sure but I don’t enjoy false urgency.

Anyways that’s my thoughts on Solo play. It needs its own dedicated content like solo dungeons or the like. They could even use AI to create Hero team members and adopt current dungeons. Just add a lot of player control over the AI Heros so the player is challenged to use Strategy as they progress.

I mostly PvP but something like this would bring me over to PvE.

I solo shadowlands constantly For good story, you might find that LOTRO, The Secret World, and Knights of the Old Republic are very enjoyable but the Jailer is just TOPS. How they first incorporate the Jailer into the narrative structure that pits the wrath of the Lich King Arthas Menethil as an background character that goes poof is perfect , and it does this by following rather complex lore throughout major areas of Shadowlands. We solo for the amazing lore.

It’s a sense of achievement that I can gear my character as high as I can.

These forums (like much of the internet) are full of whiny, negative, “I live to piss in other peoples’ cereal” people.

These are people who you could hand a hundred dollar bill to and they would complain that it wasn’t five 20s.

For the record, I’m a solo player, and Dragonflight is almost too good. I’ve been losing sleep.

I am just guessing here, but the ones complaining about that would be the ones who took vacation the first week and played non stop in order to level and complete all quests. They did that to themselves.

I feel like they’ve given quite a bit for solo players to do in this expansion. I’d say it could still improve but their on the right track. They need to do a thing like FFXIV does with the Trust system where you can do dungeons with a party of NPC’s

I’m not even in Dragonflight yet and don’t plan to be for a while. I exp locked my char at 59 so I can enjoy older content. This is where my gripes start.

Chromie Time being a leveling only mechanic that youre locked out of at 60 is ridiculous.

Lots of dungeons are missing from the dungeon finder when using Chromie Time.

There are lots of bugs related to the level scaling in these older dungeons.

Yesterday, we ran a RFK run that the whole group wiped on multiple times. 3rd boss uses a totem that normalizes health between party members. People were dying in an instant. Bug has been going on since at least October 2020.

Other random bugs like invisible Banshees that kill you in the Blight Boar concert at the Darkmoon Faire. Another bug that has been around for years and hasnt been fixed.

I want more meaningful dungeon experiences, not this race to the finish nonsense. Level scaling needs to be improved and accessible to all players regardless of level. I also want all my dungeons in the dungeon finder and make them harder so they cant be steam rolled.

I dont care about obtaining epic loot without going into raids. Im not looking for or asking for handouts.

I would like older raids added to the raid finder though. Basically every dungeon, raid, and heroic should be in the dungeon finder.

This race to the finish line, race to the latest expansion, lock me out of level scaling, and making old content meaningless is what I dont like.

Piccoletta I will show you mercy since you could easily be proven wrong.

Power is pointless also because it keeps resetting. It is the most thrown away thing in this game, with that being said. A RPG is about progression and getting stronger or better. Either through gold, through mogs. If soloer players feel they don’t have anything to progress in. They feel left out. Gear is the easiest thing to have said progression because it is tossed away each patch.

The main story campaign requires dungeon content. I saw a thread yesterday from a solo player who does not like this. I remember in SL people being upset about the Kyrian campaign having a dungeon requirement. I’ve also seen players disappointed they need a group to do most primal world events, cobalt rep, Wrath/Sab rep. World quests and dailies not being enough either in quantity, frequency, or rep gains. I believe the story is also locked from progressing behind the new Raid.

Legion is often regarded as one of the best expansions, but a lot of the same complaints happened then too. Dungeons required for campaign halls, xavius kill for druids, etc. People are upset the story is locked behind renown (reputation) now, but the story in legion with nightfallen and broken shore were too.

Most will just suck it up and do the least amount of group content possible to progress and continue to play the rest of the time solo.

There are things in game for players to do, but truthfully, many world quests/events (primal, hunts, feast, dragon keep siege, rep grinds-cobalt) all need groups. I looked at the trading post quests to earn currency and even Dragonriding has a group requirement to do. Good or bad- this xpan is not really solo play friendly. Alt friendly catch-ups for group stuff-yes, solo not so much.

No, absolutely not.

I want mythic gear…and they keep telling me I have to do mythic to get it!!! I feel so pressured! I need to talk to the manager!

I feel like you misunderstand the genre as a whole. No, they’re not about farming and grinding. Farming and grinding are, specifically, A MEANS TO AN END.

There is a purpose to them that directly benefits your character, it’s strength and it’s abilities.

What we have now and the bulk of WoW’s farming and grinding has been for YEARS, is grinding and farming to keep a player busy. Most of WoW’s grinds do not actually improve your character at all.

This list you keep repeating ad nauseum is the same list I and other have taken apart piece by piece every time.

Rare/Super Rare hunting are the same things, they are not distinct enough to be labeled as such and only get you random rewards and have to be farmed on timers.
Treasure hunting provides, again, random rewards and achievement points if that’s something you care about.
Invasions are literally the same as the pre-launch events and provided a moderate gear upgrade that is easily replaceable in raids and M+.
Fishing dailies are just that, fishing dailies.
Crafting/gathering has always been a very niche thing in WoW and never as big as people think it is because it’s rewards are replaced in higher tier content. This section is important for you because you ENJOY doing these things and this is content you like.
Two ways to farm elites, in translation, more farming of elites.

The bulk of this list is, once again, mostly busywork with very little of anything that actually improves your character or its abilities.

Very true.

The truest of true answers.
A lot of us want meaningful progression that gives us a reason to do the pointless stuff.

Finally you said something that’s an actual fact.
Progression, getting better.
Most of what is currently available (not counting M+/Raids because you are talking about random grinding and farming), that pointless list you keep posting everywhere, does not actually achieve this at all because the amount of actual progression for the character is minimal and easily replaced the moment you walk into a raid or M+.

I’m back after leaving shortly after Cata launch, I’ve never been a true solo, just a late night player with a few friends. Due to kids and work schedules I don’t get to play with my friends much this time, and I’m still having a great time, this is the first time since Wrath I’ve messed with crafting at all, and the return and revamp of skill trees is awesome.

Also, Dragonriding. Best idea ever.

People simply don’t understand what solo players do in a MMO like WOW.

For me, I don’t like raiding or doing Mythics so I just do a few dungeons here and there, group up now and then to do content that requires a group or raid on the world map.

Most of my time is completely solo, group content is not that important to me. Though I do some of it.

You do realize that the M on MMO stands for multiplayer don’t you ? Not single player…

And you conveniently define that as whatever you need it to mean to feel any kind of way you want. When your definition doesn’t include other’s definitions, and you use that dismissal to judge others, you are wrong, in multiple ways. If someone just sits in Org chatting in trade, they are one of multiple players in the game. Their game is that chat. They are participating in multiplayer content. Your game isn’t everyone’s game. There is absolutely nothing about multiplayer that implies instances esports.

First, I group up with more people in FFXIV than I ever did in WoW. Second, there has to be people to group up with, and third, when there are groups most often they are toxic.

I have no idea where this toxic WoW only belongs to people who group up attitude came from. But perhaps it is time it ends. WoW creates content for all types of players, not only those who want to spam the same dungeon all day long. This is why the create an open world environment.

I agree about Chromie time being available at max lvl.

I mean having to suffer through one dungeon per faction is acceptable to me. I’ve played all roles. But yea, I don’t agree with people complaining about having to LFD for each faction once, it is a little obtuse.
