I read from a tweet that WoW attracts bad players

Posting in yet another Anon bait thread. Talonel you got some competition.

WoW’s lackluster tutorial, inhibits bad player behavior. But no I do not think WoW attracts bad players per say.

Either it’s the fault of the game or the players around said player, that eventually make them “bad”.

How are we defining “bad” here? Bad as in personality? It doesn’t really attract them so much as bring otherwise normal people into that attitude just from what they’re exposed to from other players. Same case with League of Legends. A lot of it probably comes from the fact the primary outlets of content are frustrating where a handful can hold people back so people get frustrated and aren’t good with their tempers. Generally when people are just having a fun time and vibing, you don’t see negativity. League’s issue is one player can actually cost you half an hour of your progress, in addition to requiring you to win the next two games (roughly an hour and a half of playing the game) to get what you probably could have gotten in 30 minutes but one guy decided you didn’t gank his lane fast enough so he’s going to force the loss and afk.

Bad as in gameplay? Every game has bad players, WoW just does a lot more to directly cater to them so they feel WoW is a safe haven. Though in truth every MMO out right now is very easy to grasp and play at its basic levels, most MMOs have opted to the optional stuff being difficult for the people that want a challenge rather than the baseline being difficult and filtering out players.

WoW just has the luxury of probably being the easiest of the main MMOs right now to get a handle on if you’re just starting and never played an MMO before. RuneScape has a lot of convoluted things you need to know about very shortly after playing. WoW you’re generally fine if you can just move to the quest markers and do what the game is telling you to do. I guess WoW is more handholdy is the term I would use.

Everything you read on Twitter is true, of course.

I mean you’re the prime example

and who wrote that tweet? you? yep ok anon go home.

No, WoW doesn’t attract any new players.

I think it’s true, blizzard caters to all the whiny, lazy people, and adds QOL feature ontop of QOL feature in an attempt to reel in the “casuals”.

As a result, most people in this game think that anyone playing the game seriously or trying to be good at the game is “toxic”.

The moment I realised how bad WoW players are was when I played another MMO which had far more difficult “casual” content, but the “casuals” in this other MMOs had no problem stepping up to the challenge and doing the more difficult content.
Night and day how bad wow players were after experiencing that.

WoW players on the other hand?
Well you have people that can barely do LFR without a major struggle and normal mode might as well be mythic mode for them.
I think the biggest reason why WoW players tend to suck is because they are generally lazy and don’t want to bother enchanting their gear or get gems or even attempt to learn boss fights, most WoW players just expect to go into the game full tourist mode and have everyone else carry them while they denigrate “the try hards”, kind of sad to watch.

If you want to see truly awful players, check out WoW Classic, they make being terrible at video games an art form over there, I used to raid with other casters that would somehow do half the amount of casts i did in a game that has a 1 button rotation.
Like seriously, how the F did I do 100 frostbolts in a fight and the other mage can only do 30?
It’s like WoW:Classic players go for toilet breaks during boss fights that’s how bad they are…

Absolutely.

Edit: Oh you said players and not people.

Um, still yes.

Hmm, no because they were bad before coming here.

Now, that the word “bad” that could means anything in definition since English is truly mess up now-a- days . Just as bad as “broken”.

Bad players as in cannot play the game?
Bad players as in toxic players?
Bad players as in they wear transmog that looks really bad?

Can you be more specific?

The design of the end game attracts people who like to exercise power over others and are sufficiently intolerant that they are always seeing people that they view as clearly inferior and deserving bad treatment.

If the design of a video game makes makes a “good” person act like a “bad” person, they were never a good person.

It’s not about good people or bad people. It’s about behaviors. The game can incentivize desirable behavior or it can incentivize undesirable behavior.

Example of incentivizing desirable behavior: During Legion, completing low keys increased the bad luck protection that would lead to a legendary drop. It also led to a chance for a titanforge. Thus groups of better players hung out in the group finder looking for low keys to carry. A common title was, in fact, “My key your carry.”

Example of incentivizing undesirable behavior: At the start of this expansion, certain legendary memories were very rare drops off early bosses in dungeons. Players who needed that drop left after that boss. It is not reasonable to expect the time commitment of doing 100 or more dungeons to get that item. It should have been expected that people would leave. If they weren’t expecting it, they weren’t thinking.

Sorry, I’m sticking with if a video game “makes” you treat other people badly, you’re not a good person.

Sure. If you need to think in simple terms you can excuse just about anything by blaming it on “people”.

I mean it is that simple. If you need to pretend it’s something more to justify treating people badly then go ahead.

If you want to pretend that game mechanics that incentivize bad behavior aren’t responsible for increasing it, well, that’s you. But it’s how the world works.

Cool, thanks for moosplaining how the world works.

I still disagree entirely. Good people don’t treat people poorly over video games.

Hrm I would probably be a bad player. I have some wrist issues from a bad running accident which doesn’t impact much of my life but makes gaming a struggle. Because of the way BM is designed I can do most of my movements using WASD and at mouse will just click/move using my right hand. I can play other mmos but I have to play at a super casual level or play turn based games (I like age or wonders a lot too!)

WoW has kinda made a game that I can play to the point of enjoyment so I don’t mind if it attracts players like me.
