I owe some people an apology [Spoilers]

– for saying that they were being negative nay-sayers about Midnight, the belf expansion, not being Horde-centric.

So far, it would appear that this is Arator’s expansion, with his parents along for the ride to act as plot devices for him to interact with for when he inevitably becomes the prophesied “Child of Light and Shadow”. They make the most absolutely meager attempt to turn a character who has been 90% Alliance-centric for the entirety of his time in WoW into a more neutral character by going, “Oh, yeah. He was trained by Lor’themar and lived in Silvermoon, and tried to get taught how to be a paladin by Liadrin.”

Meanwhile, crickets from the entirety of the Horde. And I’m not buying the same thing they pulled in TWW where the respective armies could only arrive by ship (who, IIRC, didn’t actually do anything in TWW other than show up and train the earthen), because the destination location is Silvermoon, one of the most magically inclined city in the Horde.

Somehow every other type of elf can show up (including void, high, and night) but the actual allies of the Blood Elves can’t?

Oh, but maybe we’ll get some troll presence in Zul’Aman. After all, the QUEEN OF ZANDALAR is part of the Horde council, that’s got to mean a lot and be the reason that they aren’t warring with the blood el-- oh, nope. It’s Liadrin. Liadrin is the secondary character to Zul’Aman.

Maybe Thrall will show up in 12.1 to say “The elements… are in turmoil” with an AI-generated voice clip. :confetti_ball: Woohoo.

Its so godamn bad.

I want to like this thing man, i really do, i love wow trolls, but it reeks of, and yeah im gonna say it woke.

Zul’jarra came off as a stereotypical girlboss and her brother is always doing the “mistakes” and need to be lectured, the uncle is more of a lighthearted fool and even the other tribes, guess what, yep, majority are coincidentally lead by women as well, how curious, clearly not a case of overcompensation.

They gather to talk aaaaand a child speaks cause for sure a KID would have a voice in the chieftains council, no one say anything cause is a girl too.

And they just say “yeah just do better now” and end the council, they just buzz off, like, wtf is going on??

How can you be so damn stupid and not use trolls IN THE TROLL ZONE sure, bring Liadrin along but are you so inept that you cant right TWO characters in the zone? not even to tag along and say something here and there?

The Darkspear and the Zandalar ARE RIGHT THERE

TALANJI BRO, you want to use strong female characters SHE IS RIGHT THERE, SHE IS THE QUEEN OF TROLLS, A PRIEST, WIELD LIGHT, YOU KNOW, THE LIGHT THAT IS A PIVOTAL POINT OF THIS EXPANSION??? Am i taking crazy pills???

I just cant comprehend who is writing the story, like, they must be doing on purpose out of spite, there is no other reason, i cant believe this is just an oversight or they did not though about that, cause you need to know what game you are writing for right? the wiki is available everywhere in the world right?

Edit: oh, my bad, apparently the child is the tribe leader ???

Legitimately, it feels like they looked at people who have been wanting forest trolls since WoW’s inception because they’re fans of WC2 and just went, “You like all the things that are bad. Those things suck and you suck for liking them-- So we’re changing them all. Zul’jin was the worst person to ever live. Get out of my sight.”

The woke elements have been in WoW for years.

  • BfA war crimes forgiven via “talk no jutsu”.

  • Retconning Chromie to be trans.

  • Killing off, villain batting or emasculating every masculine male hero (Lor’themar better watch his back).

  • Giving minor trans character Pelagos the role of MORAL JUDGE OF ALL MORTALS IN THE UNIVERSE.

  • The Dracthyr (for one, no deep voices or muscular build options for males).

  • Faerin Lothar.

  • Orweyna clearly becoming the progressive girlboss who proves “the fusty, old traditionalist” Haranir leaders wrong.

  • Villain-batting the Titans and most Light users (it’s not woke to be non-religious…. but it is woke to be anti-religious).

You’re right. I’m adding that it’s been there for awhile and runs even deeper.

The devs are NOT being anti religious, they are anti zealot however. Foul is an actual mentor to Arator and we learn the paladins are actually GOOD PEOPLE who’s more cherished items were tools of joy/community building. Desco is probably a better representation of what a good christian is then most pastors, someone actually willing to help the poor and in need.

Good for Chromie, if Blizzard wasn’t so anti-LGBT back in early 2000s she would have just been made trans from the start.

I wasn’t accusing the devs of that - though I can see how that misunderstanding would occur - I took the opportunity to also point out that often-overlooked aspect of wokeness (people who condemn wokeness don’t seem to want to talk about the antireligious part of it).

That said, Blizzard has gleefully dragged the Titans, Naaru and most Light users through the mud a lot lately these past few years (look at what this expansion does to Turalyon so far).

If that’d been the case from the get-go, fine. But they rewrote history for “representation”. That’s a problem.

They rewrote it because back then it would have been controversial as heck. Like it was pretty obvious Blizzard did not want to have LGBT+ until the winds finally turned in it favor after gay marriage was added. In the long list of retcon that have been done for WoW, Chromie being trans being trans is a good one.

Or they could’ve pleased both sides by adding a new trans character who was good (Pelagos was undercooked, and becoming the new Arbiter so suddenly was jarring. Pelagos went from “novice who hasn’t even earned his wings” to “MORAL JUDGE OF ALL MORTALS IN THE UNIVERSE” in less than a year while showing nothing to indicate he was qualified for the job) instead of rewriting history to tick a box on a checklist.

You have writers who want to write about ‘Trauma’, ‘PTSD’, or for example someone with a disability. Then you get ridiculous things like this:

Raen Dawncavalyr says: Faerin, I was inspired last Beledar’s Shadow. I designed a new arm prosthetic. I think you’ll wear this one.
Faerin Lothar says: Thank you Raen, but the shield you made me is all I need. I’m sure your talents would be better spent on other inventions.
Raen Dawncavalyr says: It’s my pleasure to make a new arm you would use, Faerin! You told me about the discomfort and how it impacted your mobility. So I was thinking–
Faerin Lothar says: Raen, no. I have lived with my injury since was a child. I’ve learned to do everything from sword fighting to dressing myself with one hand.

I am sure that majority of individuals in this situation would accept a prosthetic or some other item which would improve their quality of life. Yet the way the character frames this is that accepting a prosthetic would be akin to accepting defeat. The writer likely thought that this would be her ‘overcoming’ her situation, whereas in reality it is her defining herself based on this fact and stubbornly refusing to improve her quality of life. Absolutely ridiculous.

You keep using that word. I don’t think it means what you think it means.

To be fair, the vessel was heavily damaged due to us kicking Argus out of it. And there needed to be a new Arbiter asap to stop the flow of souls going to the Maw. And i doubt Zovaal would allow his sigil to be taken away again to form another robot Arbiter.

I mean when you are desperate for someone to take up that mantle, you take what you can get.

It’s demeaning for a story to reduce disabled characters to reduce them to just their disability or condition (or do that to themselves).

It’s strange that in all those years Faerin never considered a prosthetic. And the Light, why didn’t anyone suggest “maybe we can give you a new arm though the Light” (Arthas gave a woman a new leg in his novel using the Light).

Interesting. Out of the hundreds of thousands of Pastors in real life, how many of them do you know what specially their churches do? How many Pastors have you personally interacted with? And if the media only shows what the people behind it want you to see, how do we their take on Pastors is factual and unbiased?

Left-wing progressive identity politics. How close is that to your definition?

While it seems contrived writing to me, there is some sense there.

A quick check tell me, it is Blizzard retconning a retcon/may not even be a retcon. People pick on the idea that Chromie might be trans all on their own based on her naming convention. Blizzard ultimately said she was a female(my guess because they didn’t want the controversy of having a trans character so they wanted to put a stop to it), and well considering she is trans that means she is a female. So not, even a retcon, just a clarification to a popular theory that ultimately got solidified.

Being alert of racial prejudice and social injustices. Which is the actual definition from those who coined the word in a political context.

Also past tense of wake :stuck_out_tongue: I thought the ‘right’ hates it when people change the definitions of words?

The assumption you have made is that the prosthetic would have improved the quality of life, even modern arm prosthetics aren’t that great.

That’s what happens when the people claiming to champion the fight against racial prejudice and social injustice practice the same kind of prejudice and injustice they criticize (look at the latest “racism vs ableism” controversy in the BAFTA awards because a filmmaker with Tourette’s involuntarily said the N-word).

“Black supremacy is as dangerous as white supremacy.”

Yeah but just basically taping a tower shield to your shoulder is as impractical as it gets; she’d literally be better off in battle without anything there. Especially considering in this universe characters are running around RIDING STEAM-POWERED MECHS. Many of which have taken 12+ of us to defeat. I mean, look at the mechagnomes. Sure, they wear diapers, but they’re literally cyborgs, man. That’s much better than duck taping a tower shield to the side of your body, dude. She’d literally be a better combatant without the shield at all if she doesn’t want to pursue the prosthetic route.

I personally kind of like it. While her original name was actually probably just a typo, Chronormu - specifically the “-ormu” part, is a male-gendered name amongst the Bronze Dragonflight.

So, while it was most certainly a mistake in the first place that was overlooked, and yes, probably retconned for the reasons you’re implying; I mean, it feels way less out of place than other retcons, considering.

And c’mon, Chromie’s adorable no matter what.

Said smith specifically not being even a gnome, so the quality of the prosthetic would likely be akin to a manikin arm at best. having a shield there atleast protects her left side instead of leaving it open.

It was originally just a writer’s error that they admitted to a few years later. Several years after that they made Chromie trans.

I like Chromie, trans or not.

Oddly, they never bring up the possibility of using the Light to give Faerin a new arm.

They society of LIGHT WORSHIPPERS never bring up using the Light to give Faerin a new arm even though that’s something it can do (as in the Arthas novel).
