I hate war mode. Pvp in this game has been broken for so long. I am just chilling another xpac then moving on. Sad. I loved pvp
You think you do but you dont
When SoD first launched I had some friends who wanted to play. They all wanted to be on a pvp and said that pve servers were for carebears.
But while playing literally none of them would engage in wpvp and would run from any fight unless the odds were greatly in our favor.
I think there is a stigmatism against pve servers that some people hold and wm allowed these players who didn’t want to be judged to ‘get off a pvp server’ without actually admitting to themselves they actually don’t like wpvp.
Agreed. When given the two server option types, I think PvE Servers sounded very weak in comparison to PvP Servers.
I like the feeling of being always at some risk of getting attacked, that’s why I played on PvP servers despite never taking instanced PVP seriously. The thing that bothers me now is that all of the people that do PVE content are hiding with war mode off. Finding groups to do any kind of world objective means I have to turn off war mode and then turn it back on after I’m done.
I want to fight world bosses while being defensive against players, I like skirimishes for crates and mob tags.
Although a slight positive of the participation in balance means I’m more likely to find things on the less populated war mode.
Personally, I don’t mind the WM toggle. It’s nice for when you just want to get through a required quest chain quickly and efficiently without having to deal with stealthies, etc., camping quest hubs and all. It’s also nice for those times when you actually want to focus on the story, like the first time you do a campaign. This is especially true as a Healer main. Every terrible DPS player will open on you once they realize you’re a Healer - mostly because they’re too bad to fight against other DPS players, so they want to fight something they figure can’t fight back (like a Healer, or a Tank taking 60% extra damage and hitting like a wet noodle). Ironically enough, these are also the same people that get angry about Healers being hard to kill.
I don’t think the WM toggle was really the problem, but - more so - the sharding. One of the best things about PVP servers, IMO, was the community. People knew each other. There were personal rivalries, guild rivalries, KoS lists, people you avoided (like the R1 Multi-glads or the unkillable raid Tanks), etc. This also lead to stories and myth-making (e.g.: “Oh, you don’t want to mess with him. I heard he once took out a whole raid by himself - with his hands tied behind his back”). Now, it’s just random people from random guilds and random servers. They might as well just be NPCs. To this day, I still find it very exciting on the all-too-rare occasion that you run into someone you know in WPVP. I love running into forum peeps in game precisely because of the fact that we share a community together.
not a lot of people like it now cause cross realms are overpopulating the servers bothering random players. most prefer to keep it off. violence is not the way.
