Im not denying malls sucked all kinds of d, but it was all those things, mixed with the good things and the friends, that make me miss them.
Also im not a very social guy, but i could easily hang around arcades or the food mall and eventually find one or two likeminded people to talk to, you cant really do that in a hyperbolic time chamber like the internet
